I recently installed windows 7 onto my MacBook air- big mistake, I cannot work out how to get back to OSX Lion and get rid of windows for good, anybody help?

how to permanently disable this? Since I installed Lion, my computer freezes about once a day (I have plenty of harddrive and RAM) and so I have to force restart it. It takes about 10 minutes for it to start up because of all the windows I always have open.

Now that i installed windows, i cannot switch back to osx. If i didnt delete or completely remove osx, will someone please tell me how i can get back to osx. Yes, i tried to f6 it and see if i can switch back but osx isnt even listed on there. So my question again, did i completely remove osx?

I went to install XP on boot camp and I accidentily installed it on the wrong partition, so the drive that had leopard on it is now formatted to NTFS and I cannot format it back. I beleive all my data is still on because there is a lot of used disc space. I want to convert it back to HFS without the loss of data, as I have important information on the hard drive that I do not want to lose. I know this is my own fault because I wasn't paying close enough attention to where I was installing Windows

I just booted into Windows and saw that there were some Windows Updates available and it asked me to reboot the computer however it failed to boot into Windows. So I restarted and tried to boot into OS X instead, but that didn't work either.
So I put in the OS X install DVD and checked out Disk Utility. Turned out that all my partitions where screwed up. There were 3 partitions listed as Windows_ldm, with incorrect sizes (I had 4 partitions before).
Long story short: I'm now reinstalling OS X and I lost everything I had on the drive, I think. I'll try some restore software once I've gotten OS X installed.
A little pissed right now... How the heck can Windows F up the entire drive?
Tried to reinstall op system on macbook pro (mid 2010) that came with snow leopard from a time machine backup and it didn't accept my password. I had upgraded to lion, guess that's part of the problem. So I reinstalled again without my time machine backup and can't figure out how to get lion back on, along with the rest of my time machine backup now that i'm back in snow leopard? Tried to use migration assistant but it said i didn't have the correct op. sys. to continue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to dual boot my Macbook Pro (2010) with Windows 7 to run some software that is not Mac compatible. I have encountered one problem after the next, but most recently, my disc drive has stopped reading discs. I had originally gone from Mountain Lion to Mavericks as an upgrade, and my disc drive worked fine - but due to an issue with the Windows 7 installation, I had to completely wipe my computer and start fresh - booting Mavericks from the Cloud directly. This appears to have knocked out my disc drive and try as I might, my computer will not only refuse to read external optical drives, but it will accept discs, not read them, and repeatedly spit them out a few seconds later.
I was looking for a solution - and I'm not sure exactly which route to take. I could downgrade to Mountain Lion and hopefully restore the functionality of my disc drive to install Windows 7 and upgrade my OS after the fact OR I could find a way to repair my disc drive. The issue is most definitely software and not hardware.
Ideally, I'll walk away from this with a partitioned MacBook Pro with both Windows 7 and Mavericks installed. I don't even necessarily need my disc drive to work once Windows 7 is installed.

My brother tried to install Windows XP Pro on our MacBook. Under normal circumstances this would be a walk in the park. The problem is, we are in Costa Rica, on vacation, right now and he thought we had a copy of Windows, but we don't! So now the MacBook boot up to a DOS screen saying, "No bootable devise -- insert boot disk and press any key." And of course I don't have a bootable devise. Is there anyway to revert back to windows? I have tried holding down the escape key which then gives me the same message about the bootable devise, over and over.

And I love the new task bar. Since it's a new installation (on a better computer, too) it seems even faster than XP and even OS X. So now that many of you have had experience with the beta, do you think the final product will be enough to make you switch back to Windows? And if you've been a Mac user all your life, will you cross to the "dark" side?

View 8 Replies View Related'd like to run Win 7 on virtualization software, but not sure of the best way to back up, as I've been reading a lot about how Time Machine (unless you configure it not to) will save the VM folder as one large file, which of course could make the back up tens of GBs and bloat a drive quickly. I'm planning to connect an external HDD partitioned for both Time Machine (for incremental backups) and Superduper(for more easily bootable restore).
VMware Fusion (for instance) recommends backing up within the VM itself. But this alone doesn't seem like a good strategy for catastrophic failure of a HDD.
I printed boot camp instructions. I partitioned the disk with no problem, inserted windows 7 and it came up a black screen with blinking cursor. I cannot get out of it and if I restart, it says to insert bootable disk. I cannot get mac os to come up.

The more I tried, the more I found out that I should go for apps designed specifically for the MacOS, as they were more streamlined than the ones made for Windows and then converted to the MacOS.
Anyway, I found out some truly useful MacOS apps and which have great functionality. Some of these apps have features which are not shared by any Windows apps (or at least it seems to me).
If I were to go back to Windows (just to make it clear: I'm not), would I be able to replace the MacOS apps I use with Windows apps with the same or similar functionality? I'd like to make this a kind of game in order to find out which MacOS apps are non-replaceable killer apps.r own apps to the list.
