I'm trying to dual boot my Macbook Pro (2010) with Windows 7 to run some software that is not Mac compatible. I have encountered one problem after the next, but most recently, my disc drive has stopped reading discs. I had originally gone from Mountain Lion to Mavericks as an upgrade, and my disc drive worked fine - but due to an issue with the Windows 7 installation, I had to completely wipe my computer and start fresh - booting Mavericks from the Cloud directly. This appears to have knocked out my disc drive and try as I might, my computer will not only refuse to read external optical drives, but it will accept discs, not read them, and repeatedly spit them out a few seconds later.
I was looking for a solution - and I'm not sure exactly which route to take. I could downgrade to Mountain Lion and hopefully restore the functionality of my disc drive to install Windows 7 and upgrade my OS after the fact OR I could find a way to repair my disc drive. The issue is most definitely software and not hardware.
Ideally, I'll walk away from this with a partitioned MacBook Pro with both Windows 7 and Mavericks installed. I don't even necessarily need my disc drive to work once Windows 7 is installed.

How to back up MacBook Pro mavericks..without a separate external drive
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently did a manual reboot after my MacBook Pro had frozen, and instead of the usual Apple and loading icon, it gave me the flashing question mark on a folder, which I've never encountered before. I looked up some possible reasons on my PC, and after reading that there's a problem with my HD I tried looking up how to back up my files so that I can do a clean reinstall of Yosemite (latest ver.). However, I've never used anything like Time Machine or anything else that could back up all my files, so it didn't sound like I could do anything about that at this point. I've also tried going into Disk Utility and attempting to repair the disk image. There was only 2 available, disk0 and the base system. Is there anything I can do that will repair my HD without erasing all my files?

I installed one of available themes from deviantart. It was looking good on screenshots. But when I installed that, It was messed up my Mavericks Theme.
I uninstalled that theme. No i'm not having my older theme or default theme for mavericks. How can i have that.
I read in the instructions in Theme the way to uninstall. There it was written to restore finder, preferencePans, Safari etc. But I didn't take any backup.
How do I get preferencePans and finder etc.. ?
Can I reinstall Mac OSx - Mavericks?. Is there any option to just instal or over write and still I could get all of my files save?
Or is there any way I can download only these files if available online?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am either too stupid or Yosemite's mail does not work the way I'm accustomed to. In all previous iterations you select as many individual addressee's as you wanted and place them in the address heading. I have not found a way to do that in Yosemite. You must choose them individually and place in the address header one at a time. I know about groups but that is not a good avenue as many of my emails go to random people depending on content. If the above is not possible do have an email you reccomend that would let me send to multiple addressees in one operation. I do not use Gmail, Yahoo, etc. . . My email is from 3rd party provider.

Tried to reinstall op system on macbook pro (mid 2010) that came with snow leopard from a time machine backup and it didn't accept my password. I had upgraded to lion, guess that's part of the problem. So I reinstalled again without my time machine backup and can't figure out how to get lion back on, along with the rest of my time machine backup now that i'm back in snow leopard? Tried to use migration assistant but it said i didn't have the correct op. sys. to continue.

I change my Energy Saver settings (Mavericks), but the changes do not remain. Once the display goes to sleep, the settings change back to other values (which aren't the same as the default settings). This happens even though I have the settings locked. Could some other utility be changing the settings? My Macbook Pro was imaged through my work - might they have set something up that can revert settings?
I've already tried trashing the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file and restarting - that didn't solve the problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever starting up, a grey screen would appear and after the screen would shut off immediately. I decided to reinstall Mavericks (which worked). However, my iTunes is completely wiped clean. I have all my music files still on my computer but not in the iTunes. After reading these forums i see that a lot of other users have been complaining about all types of problems...Yellow tint, wifi problems, over heating...etcshould I consider myself lucky? And just be happy that its only 1 small pixel?
