Safari :: Address Bar Disappears - Getting It Back?
May 17, 2012
everytime i open safari or open a new window the address bar and google search disappears and i tried recofiguring it but it hasnt worked and i was told to use ctrl and l to show it it worked but the the address bar disappears again whenever i open a new window
So I hit customize toolbar to get rid of a button on my Safari toolbar. The window didn't pop up like it was supposed to, so I tried clicking around, and clicked the address bar and it disappeared.
Now even after a restart, I can't get the customize toolbar dialog to come up, therefore I can't get my address bar back.
My address book flies up above the top of my screen when I open it. It will appear when I hit F3, but then it disappears again when I click on it to open the page. Â
I can move the application to different desktops, where I can see the very bottom of the window, but am unable to use the mouse to drag it down to where it can do me any good.Â
On a frustrating meter, it's probably a five-and-a-half, or six. It's been like this for several weeks, and I probably ought to get this figured out before too much longer.Â
My software all seems to be updated. I've force quit the application, rebooted the machine, and nothing seems to be giving me any satisfaction. Â
I have really tried to like the new Safari, but I can't seem to generate 'affection' for the tabs. One thing especially is irritating to me. Being over the address bar is bad enough, but when there's a bunch of tabs, finding a spot to 'grab' the window to move it is difficult.
Is there a way to move the tabs back below the address window like the older Safari? I hope this hasn't been asked and answered before. I didn't see it.
When I'm using Safari, occasionally the menu bar just disappears. I'm running the latest version of Lion and the latest version of Safari. This is not a full screen app problem. I have multiple windows open. This happens all the time! Firefox is fine!
Info: Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Not enough room in this field!
When using Safari (Safari is the foremost window) and selecting Safari Help from the Help menu of Safari, I see the help window start to fly up from the lifering icon in the dock, and then disappear behind the Safari window. To see the help window, I have to select it form the dock.Â
For the last two weeks, when using Safari, the top bar which shows the word Safari, File etc (can't remember what it is called) disappears unless I move my cursor up to it. I have checked Safari preferences and System preferences and can't figure out how to stop it from disappearing. I suspect it is a check box.Â
I have tried to check the "view" option to hide/show and neither solves the problem.Â

Safari default appearance includes a plus sign tab beside the address bar to be used to save bookmarks.Â
My plus sign disappears. Â
But it reappears when I swap focus to another application. Of course, if another application has focus I don't have immediate access to click the plus sign.Â
If I click where the plus sign is supposed to be I it gives me the option to save the bookmark but sometimes the file list shows and sometimes the file list does not show. Â
I have applied all availible Safari updates, including recently using MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg.Â
I thought about re-installing Safari but that is not a quick/easy process. Currently using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5 (6533.21.1)
When I have Safari open and want to open another app such as Word, when I open Word Safari slides to the right and disappears. When I close the app, Safari reappears. I want both apps to appear on the desktop at the same time. One over the other one.Â
I have a 21.5" iMac bought in November 2009. I am having a strange happening with it. I have just been using Mail, clicked on the red button at the top left to quit, but the mail window just kept disappearing all but about 3mm off the screen to the top and top left and not quitting. I have also had this happen when using Safari, occasionally if I click on a link on the page to another open another page Safari disappears off the top and top left except for about 3mm.
I opened my safari today and when I was about to type the website that I want to go to I couldn't find the space where you type it at.. I don't know what happened?
Version 6 of address book is difficult to work with and missing a few important features, especially a logical presentation in columns of groups, names and details. How can I get ver 5 back?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), I am keeping OSX 10.6.8 on my iMac
I somehow have lost my Macbook Pro address book. How I did this I do not know. It just disappeared when I was trying to send email with gmail. Now the address book shows the rainbow circle and then cuts out. Then I get a prompt saying info. sent to Apple. What do I do?
The address line that is normally at the top of my screen is gone now. I'm not sure what I did but can someone show me how to configure my screen so the address line is at the top?
She has 3502 contacts in her Address Book on her OS X Lion 10.7.4 MacBook Air. She has two iPhones. They're both running iOS 5.1.1. She has enabled iCloud on ALL these three devices, using her @me.com identity and appropriate password. She updates Address Book contacts ONLY on her MBA - for sync'ing to her phones - and she does NOT update any Contacts info on her phones in order to have them transferred BACK to her Mac. That's how she prefers to work.Â
The only way that her Address Book contacts will sync UP to iCloud from the Mac appears to be to select 'All on My Mac' within Address Book, and to Export as vcards to a file on her Mac, and then, in the online iCloud Contacts webpage, to Import that file of vcards. All well and good, but that seems to ignore all her various Groups; everything ends up bundled all into one group. (Perhaps each Group in her Mac's Address Book needs to be separately Exported and then Imported, but surely it shouldn't be as long-winded as that.) Â
(About 402 of these contacts are not accepted by the online iCloud Contacts, although they seem to fall within the requirements of not being too many, not being too large, etc. But that's a separate problem which I'm still investigating ..maybe the names are formatted incorrectly; I'll keep working on that separately..)Â
Anyhow: by explicitly Importing all those Address Book contacts into the iCloud Contacts, they then immediately start to get distributed - correctly! - to her iPhones ..but also back into the Address Book on her Mac, thereby DUPLICATING them all in Address Book! (They CAN be seen as SINGLE entries by choosing 'All iCloud'.)Â
I cannot understand the opaque instructions in all of the iCloud documentation. NONE of the documentation which I've studiously read (online, in System Prefs, in every Help file I can find) seems to indicate a DIRECTION for this iCloud sync'ing. WHERE - if there is such a place - does one specify that contacts should go only UP FROM the Mac, and not BACK DOWN to the Mac?Â
There seem to be options only to turn ON sync'ing (or off), but not the DIRECTION of sync'ing, or which device(s) take precedence. (..In iTunes - when sync'ing phones to a Mac with a cable - there's a preference to over-write EITHER the host Mac with data FROM a phone, or to over-write an iPhone's data with data FROM the Mac..)Â
(a) Can one specify a DIRECTION when turning on sync'ing for a device?
(b) With iCloud sync'ing turned ON on a Mac, is there any known reason why Address Book contacts should not send themselves UP to the iCould, instead of having to be manually Imported?
(c) Does one Export Groups individually? ..But what if a name is in more than one Group ..does it get duplicated online in iCloud?
(d) Is there not the intelligence within the iCloud facility for the system to NOT distribute back, or duplicate, contacts to the device which is the SOURCE of those contacts? Should it not do a comparison between iCloud and a device, and then recognise that those contacts already exist on the remote device, and therefore NOT distribute them BACK again to the SOURCE? (..Or am I having too high expectations?..)Â

my address/search bar is gone. i googled how to get it back. but all the suggestions didnt work for me. under the menu bar "view". there isnt a "show address bar" i dont know where the preference file is. when i try to open up my "customize toolbar" tab, safari just crashes.
Ever since I updated to 5, my address bar has been autofilling the title of the page I go to, for instance: Say I have been to Zappos and looked at a pair of converse, the title at the top of the window will say something like "Converse shoe etc." Well then say I've looked on [URL] at something before, and I want to go there again. If I start typing "converse" into the address bar, it wants to autfill the "Converse shoe etc." title and take me to the Zappos page instead of [URL] Is there a way to disable this? I liked it the way it was before, If im typing something in the address bar I only want ti to guess urls, not page titles.
When I launch safari 5.1 (Mac Lion) today, I found address bar missing. I clicked "Show toolbar" selected at the top of the View menu, and then "customize toolbar", no response. ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3632452?start=0&tstart=0 ) I remove all extentions and disable all plug-ins, and click "customize toolbar", no response.I clicked "reset safari", no way ! I unstall safari, and then reinstall safari 5.1, the problem is the same .
Web address bar has been switched off how do i get it back up as i can now only use my favourites . how do i switch it back on so i can type a web address on safari
