View 4 RepliesI've had my MBA 1.8 since the beginning. Just recently my my caps lock and mouse pad button doesn't work:
1. Caps lock
It technically does work, but I have to press the dang thing like 4 or 5 times until the green dot lights up on it
2. Mouse pad button
This also technically does work, but not properly. It is currently semi-broke. It's hard for me to explain in words. So I'll will try my best here. It's almost like a teeter-totter, I.E. the bar is never level. One side is always raised and the other is always lowered. If I click on the raised part of the mouse pad, it will make a clicking sound
I do not currently have apple care, but still have some time left to purchase it.
Today after I cleaned my mighty mouse (by rolling the scroll ball on a piece of paper) the Button 3 would not work properly and neither would the primary button. When the scroll ball is set as Button 3 the primary button and the scroll ball both do Button 3 actions even though in the preferences its not set up that way. I can't click anything with it, it just keeps opening new tabs in Firefox and when I click those tabs they close. And as I typed this I noticed the secondary button isn't working well either. I took out the batteries, turned off bluetooth, changed the preferences, restarted my MacBook and it's all the same.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe last 2 days I have had the left mouse button on any Device on my MBP stop working. Tried SMC reset and it seems to work but them it happens again sporadically requiring a shutdown and I assume another SMC reset. Â

So, here's the story. I turned on my imac one day, and i tried to launch safari by clicking the left button ( primary button ) and it launched expose (which is configured or the middle button) so i kept clicking and clicking i tried the right button ( secondary ) and it also launched expose. By this time i am getting fusterated. My side button still works and launches spaces but left, right and middle only do what the middle button is configured too. I have tried taking out the batteries putting new ones in , and disconnecting it from bluetooth.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have had my mighty mouse for a couple months and it has worked great on my macbook. Just recently the middle button won't open up the dashboard and the two side buttons go through spaces instead of exposing all windows. In system proferences under mouse and spaces both are set for the middle button to open the dashboard and the side buttons to expose all windows but they don't do that. It could be an easy fix but I don't know what else to try?

Every once in a while the mouse pad will stop working. A wireless mouse will work in its place. The keyboard will also act extremely slow during this time. It seems like the buffer is full and it moves on to the next letter i type without using the previously typed letter.Â

Since the trackpad was not working, we have to use a USB mouse to navigate. After a few minutes, the mouse left and right button doesn't work. I can move the pointer around the screen and use the keyboard.

Occasionally after waking from sleep, there's no response when I try to use the left button on the mouse, or the equivalent on the trackpad. Everything else seems normal. The cursor moves OK, and the right button actions do still work.

#1: Is there a keyboard command that will perform a middle click? I have googled and googled and googled and found hardly any info except something about "option + click", which does not work.Â
#2:Â Is there a way to make the magic mouse perform a middle click?

I am using OS X 10.3. The apple menu doesn't work (for the past few months). When I click on it it's highlighted but doesn't pull down. I can not quit applications even if I use keyboard shortcuts (I have to force quit).
I tried starting with "safe boot" and I ran "Verify & repair disk permissions" but it didn't fix it.
Any ideas?
Recently I had a issue with my macbook pro so I had it repaired at the Apple Store(problem with the display). They replaced the logicboard(2nd time in 4 months) and the battery. Now after taking it hope and plugging in my external speakers into the headphone jack I get this weird thump sound. It happens twice and I'll watch the audio strength at the top right. Each time it goes from like it's working to a gray color as if it's not or locked. If I try to play something like music with the jack in my entire screen freezes and I have to restart my computer entirely for it to work. Btw there is no red light in the headphone jack. The last time I had the logic board replaced it was a sound problem.

My Macbook Was On And Working And I Tried To Hit The Power Button To Turn The Macbook Off And It Would Not Work....so I Shut It Down Using Computer Shut Down Under The Apple ....now It Will Not Turn Back On......it Has To Be The Power Button Itself....is There Any Where I Could Buy A Replacement Power Button? And Is There Any Other Way To Get It To Turn On Without Using The Power Button?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is normal. However I have the mid-2009 uMBP, and the eject button on my keyboard doesn't eject the DVD or the eject an external device, even if i select the item on my desktop first.
Is this normal?
The keyboard and trackpad on my macbook cut out about six months ago and since then I've been using an external keyboard & mouse. I've only just got round to taking my computer in to be looked at at the genius bar, and what I've heard back is that the connections between the logic board and keyboard top section are damaged, and I've got a quote for <$400 for both to be replaced, which is apparently the only solution. The bulk of the cost is the new logic board, and seeing as it's only a connection rather than the processor itself that is damaged, I'm wondering whether it would be possible to have the logic board component repaired or replaced rather than replacing the entire thing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust bought my MBA about a month ago. Recently it started doing something weird, mostly on the dock icons.
Sometimes when I go to click on an icon, it doesn't do anything, regardless of whether I am clicking, double clicking, or pushing the button below the trackpad. I end up having to move the cursor off of the icon and back on once or twice before it will let me click.
Ok. so my MBP was working 2 days ago and I went to Fry's to replace the HD with a 640GB model thinking larger storage - win. Replaced in and the orange ribbon cable got disconnected between the keyboard and the logic board. Went frantic and after a visit to the Apple Genius, they plugged it back and thought i was fine. Nope, and now the unit won't turn on. Plugged it in and got the green light and battery charges, but the MBP won't power on. I made sure the HD was plugged in securely, the orange ribbon connected fine, and the power button cable was secure. The drive worked fine as I did a superduper transfer of the old data to the new drive the night before the crisis and it worked fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter 1.5 years of use, my hard drive suddenly failed. This was later confirmed by Apple Genius Bar. So I purchase a new SSD from OWC which was instructed to be compatible with my laptop model (MBP 13" early 2011). It arrived today and I did the installation carefully and successfully. However, after putting the back panel back in place I was unable to power up my laptop.
It was as if the power button is not working. Then I opened up the back panel one more time to realise that every time I click the power button (turn on), the fan started running, this can only be stopped by pressing the power button and held it (turn off). I tried placing my old hard drive and it doesn't work as well. I tried reset the SMC by holding power-shift-option but same result.

my enter button won't work as I'm trying to login. I don't have a password so normally I'd just press the enter button and login right away. But yesterday, I tried pressing enter and nothing happens. I'm certain that the enter key isn't malfunctioning because it's a brand new computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen i hit the red x button on mac, it actually quits the application and doesn't restore any work i was doing, be it apps like pages and neither does it restore my last opened sessions on safari. However when i press command q, it should in normal cases close the application, however when i do that now it restores my previously active sessions.Â
In simple words both functions are working opposite to each other:Â
Red x- should merely 'minimise' the app and should restore previous active sessions but is not
Command w- should close the app but is instead restoring previous sessions

This is fantastic! Say if you have more than one tab open in safari and you press quit. You know that little box comes up "are you sure you want to quit?" I just discovered that wherever the mouse is on the screen it will move to the quit button, so you don't have to move the mouse to click it. I believe this is the case for other things, empty the trash etc. Its only safari. Have 2 tabs open. Hit command Q.
View 18 Replies View Relatedbasically i havent had my macbook air that long (few month, maybe few more) but all of a sudden the click button on the trackpad has almost became slightly annoying, that when you press it slightly it clicks in as if youve clicked but nothing has happened, and then i press a slight bit more (normal pressure for a click) and it works normal. its just really annoying and it seems to be getting worse at one end, and ideally id like it to stop.

When I wake from sleep, my mouse cursor is a beachball that is NOT spinning. I can use my mouse like normal, move it, and click on things, but its still a beachball. I beleive it stays like this until the mouse is actually supposed to be a beachball (when I open a few programs at the same time and the computer starts "thinking"), then it starts spinning and after that it goes back to the normal black arror cursor.
Might be a problem from the 10.5.3 update? anyone else experience this?
