My family shares a large iMac, i have my own personal account with my iTunes account on it. Most of my music that is on my iTunes is downloaded from my personal CDs, so when i sign in on iTunes on my newly bought MacBook Pro, it does not pick it up. I am trying to find a way to transfer my music on my personal iTunes on the family Mac to my new MacBook Pro.

Is there any way to avoid having to give my password to my daughter? I have had the same AppleID for many years, and it also my email address, so I would prefer not to share the password with all of my family. As far as I can tell, I can not change my AppleID associated with my iTunes account.I do want my daughter to be able to download apps or updates to existing apps even when she is not with me, but that doesn't seem possible without sharing passwords. It would be great if iTunes allowed "sub-accounts."

I have an airport extreme with a 1tb drive connected to it that my entire family connects to (4 people).
I installed the latest AirPort driver that allows the hard drive to be accessed over the internet which works great.
The problem is that it obviously only works with my user account since I linked it with my MobileMe user name. Is there any way to allow my other family members access to the drive over the internet, short of them going into MobileMe in system preferences and logging in as my MobileMe account?
Basically my question is exactly that. I am a new to mac user, and have got a new mac air. Whilst in the store setting up our new mac the people in the shop told us that we could only have 1 icloud account per user, and therefore my wife and i should set up separte user accounts. Great. However, we both want to be able to access all of our photos and our music library. I have been into the sharing folders, but i must be doing somthing wrong, because as my wife turns on iphoto in her user account, she cannot access any of our photos.

I have a last gen macbook pro, how can I change a function key to play music from iTunes (like the new ones)? Preferable it would be f12 since I never use dashboard.

But I have crap load of music and its transferring into the start up disk! So its full already. How can I share or whatever to use the music in 1TB harddrive? I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis proves much harder than I had anticipated. I spent the entire weekend and monday trying to get it to work on my own but now I have to surrender. I have about 20GB of music on my windows 7 box, which I would like to have shared to my new Mac Mini without having them being copied. I turned on File Sharing on my Windows Machine, and use SMB on the Mac to get to the mp3 files, then I can drag the files into Itunes on Mac.
This works okay but I don't know what the limitation is, Itunes freezes when either the library gets too big, or when a single mp3 file exceeds a certain size; I am suspecting it is the stability of the samba protocol. I also tried the Home Sharing feature within Itunes between the PC and Mac, but then I can't seem to be able to sync to Iphone/Ipod from the mac. It has been an extremely frustrating first time experience with a Mac. Please give me some tips on how I can share my music between a PC and a Mac.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to set my wife up as a separate user on my mac and share my music file with her so we no longer mix up our iPhone apps. I don't want a second copy on my hard drive. I've tried one method on here HT1203 but it makes a second copy and fills up my hard drive. I do not want to share the whole media library just the music. There must be an easy way to use two iPhones with separate user ids on one Mac so we don't mix up our apps. I would have though that the great Apple would have just sorted this out when you plug in a different device.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I each have our own devices. I would like to purchase an album and have it on both accounts so we do not have to buy the same album twice just because we both like it. I have seen many articles on how to achieve this on a single computer but nothing that talks about multiple computers and multiple accounts.

When importing music into iTunes, what is the best quality setting to use?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I have separate user accounts on the same MacBook Pro so that we can both sync our phones to this computer. My account is the primary user account, and my iTunes library is stored in this account. My wife would like to put music on her iPhone so she can run, but I can't seem to access the music library thru her account. I know the files are all on the hard drive regardless, so I just need to know how I can make iTunes on my wife's account access the library that's there. I've tried the steps I could find on Apple's website, but I can't seem to make it work. I'm running the latest versions of everything - even tho the post says I'm running 10.9.1, I'm actually running 10.9.4

Everytime I insert a music cd, nothing happens. I checked the settings to cds & dvds, and music cd's are set to "ignore" when inserted. However, everytime I try to click "open with itunes" it stays on ignore. I'm not sure what to do, or what it's happening.

personally I thought that the family pack was for if you had 2+ Macs to install Snow Leopard on. I didn't really care for upgrading my mac mini so i just bought the regular Snow Leopard for my Macbook Pro. Out of curiosity i tried installing SL on both and it worked.
So what are the differences between the regular Snow Leopard and the family pack?
Q: What is the best way to load Lion on to multiple family computers? We have 2 iMacs, one Mac mini and one Mac Book Pro. I downloaded Lion to the newest iMac but now I need to bring my other machines into line preparing for Mountain Lion.

My father-in-law is considering switching to macs, but a deal breaker is whether or not he can continue to use his genealogy information. He's been using Family Tree Maker which is peecee only. I've read that Reunion is a good mac alternative, but will he be able to transfer his data from FTM to Reunion? What if anything would he lose?

can people please tell if a) i would be correct in saying that the only difference is the licence agreement, therfore the only diff in buying for me is how compelled i am to user-licence properlyorb) there is proper security features like phoning home etc. so i need to get family pack
I've been using my Macbook for almost a year now and I backup my regular files using Time Machine and a Seagate HD. I store ALL of my digital media on another external HD. Its a decent system, but I'm taking on a bigger "backup" project and need to have all of my bases covered. My family's computer (a shoddy, 10 year old custom build pc) has their digital photos from the last 10 years on it. The computer is being "wiped" (its really in bad shape!) but before that's done, they want their files and photos backed up. My intended shopping list is:
- 1 External HD - for Important Files/Digital Media
- 1 External HD - a backup for the above
- 1 New Desktop with a huge HD that can hold all old media as well as anything new they add in the next 10 years (that's how long we keep our desktops!) I'm trying to talk them into a Mac but budget is small and for email, word processing and photo storage, its just not necessary. Any PC suggestions? Should I wait for Windows 7? (No Vista...)
I am terrified of losing valuable data, but would love to see ALL of the family photos in one place. Backups needs to be accessible by Mac and PC and would (hopefully) be periodically updated. Is there reasonable backup software available for PC's that works like Time Machine? How big should I go on the Externals? The family currently has less than 100gb of photos, but that will exponentially increase now that digital cameras are getting better. I was going to buy 500gb or 1tb or bigger, since Newegg has some good prices. Is that excessive?
I'm thinking to buy the iWork family pack with some friends so that we can install it on our macs and divide the price up, it's a lot cheaper!
But, in the apple site they say this:
Quote:
Install the iWork Family Pack* on up to five Mac computers in your household.
So my question is:
Can you only install it in your household? Is there any way the software knows the 5 computers are not in the same place?
Or can you install them in just any 5 computers?
AND- Do you think it's a good idea to buy it now? I don't know if there's a new version coming soon
EDIT- I read that the only difference between the normal and the family version of iWork is the licence. So if I buy the cheaper one, can I still install it in more computers and never get cought? Or will it stop working after I install it once?
Safari won't load page on family imac. This is limited to our main account as it works fine on Guest. Have tried reinstalling safari, deleting the cache, resetting safari. No Sucess.
Not sure how to specifically remove plugins

I converted an old apple ID to an ID that is a real email address, as the old one no longer was a valid email address. After creating the new Apple ID I tried to add this ID to the family share as many of the iTunes purchases of songs and apps were done under this ID. The invitation was sent to the new apple ID email address, but when I tried to accept the invitation, I received an error bubble that said " Invalid Invitation, you are already part of this family". When I went back to iCloud it would show that the invitation was still unaccepted.
