MacBook :: SKYPE Launches Automatically Every Time I Turn On MBP?
Jul 31, 2009
I recently downloaded Skype on my MacBookPro, and it launches automatically every time I turn on the computer. I don't see a way to prevent this in the preferences. Anyone know how I can turn that off?

I have been using Hotspot Shield for a few years now, but the most recent update is for some reason causing it to automatically launch at startup (it has the Hotspot Shield logo in the menu bar).
I have tried looking at the the Startup Items list in System Preferences and looking at the preferences within the application itself. I cannot seem to figure out how to prevent it from launching automatically.

My new Macbook Air (bought one mounth ago) reboots automaticaly. It happens randomly, usually when I'm using Safari or Skype. It shuts down without any warning and log-out process, and it's keyboard keeps unresponsive about 1-2 minutes and then boots up automatically. I'm not using any "Disk cleaning app". I have reinstalled OS but unexpected reboots keeps happening.

Each time I launch Safari, iTunes launches. A clue: iTunes immediately goes to the store and brings up an app called SendStuffNow. This is a real pain. At one point I had downloaded the (free) app, but decided I didn't want it and deleted it.

Whenever I restart my computer, both Steam and Skype immediately and automatically start up, on their own. How do I turn that off? How do I set things up so they only start up when I click on them, to purposely choose to start them?

It doesn't matter what application I use, be it Photoshop, Safari, Chrome, InDesign... or whatever... when I go to "Save" or "Open" and get a file browser window, I get the dreaded spinning beachball. It takes at least 60 seconds or more before it stops spinning and I am then able to save, open or choose files (whatever I happen to be doing at the time).Â
I've checked my Energy Saver prefs. Nothing is set to "sleep". I've already checked disk permissions (OK). I have NO external HDs, only 2 internal factory HDs. 12 GB RAM, 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. One day I just started having this issue and I can't figure this out. It really slows down my work when I have to "wait" a couple mins every time I want to "Open" or "Save" or "Choose" a file from the file browser window. What the heck gives here??? Please, am I missing something? I have no USB Devices attached, but I am on a network in my office.Â

I just got my first MacBook and just draining the battery for the first time (seems to be something like 5-6 hours while surfing and playing music via the speakers, so far I'm quite happy). But I've noticed that the 330m is running all the time due to Skype. I checked with gfxCardStatus and when I close Skype the battery time increases nearly an hour.

On the right hand side of my desktop when I download a program it seems to put an icon or doc on the right hand side. Like right now I have a skype dmg file I can't delete as it says Skype is in use, then right above that is a seperate skype icon that even if I drag to dock it still stays on the right hand side (like a copy), then I downloaded open office again and it put the install icon there (like when you open and you drag your program to teh applications folder)

My mac laptops always bring up that annoying wireless network selection window upon opening, even when I'm connected through a physical cable. Is there any way to automatically turn the airport off when physically connected? This seems like something that should be easy...

I have reached this website after scrawling to find a solution on the internet. I hope someone can help me with this problem.I have a 4 years old G4 ibook (OS 10.3.7), and have been using it for internet, skype and foto-storage mainly.Situtation:Yesterday I tried to use the internet (Firefox browser) and skype, but the skype didn't work at all. Since firefox was not working properly either, I did force quit and restarted the computer. I attempted this several times until I could use both applications (never had any problems before). However, Skype didn't work, and in the end, I could not quit firefox at all. At last I did force quit again, and saw white screen with apple icon at the centre when restarting. No time-spinning mark, the apple just sits there.
Troubleshooting that I have done:
I called up support center, and they told me that it's very likey that the computer is stopping at "'carnel" stage (I'm sorry but I don't know what this is). The possibility that it's got something to do with HD is 50/50, so I may have to send it to repairing service in the worst case. They told me to try using Disc Install CD1 to check/repair something wrong in my computer. So I followed the instructions and inserted the install CD and restart the computer with "c" key. The computer read the CD and Installer window showed up. As instructed in a manual, I used First Aid in Disc Utility, and tried "repairing disc". After a while it said "1 HFS has been repaired". It also said that Macintosh HD doesn't seem to have a problem", so I quit the disc utility and restarted the computer.
Against my expectation, the same white screen with apple came up on the screen and sits there with no other movements.I'm afraid of trying somethinig without further so I hope I can get the same story or ideas that someone here might have.

I recently bought a time capsule to replace my old hard drive. I copied my music from my laptop to time capsule and an iMac just to be safe. I cleared the itunes from my macbook, copied them back and deleted the files (so all the songs would be in my library). Obviously now I get the exclamation points, and I can locate the songs manually, but I'd rather it do it automatically. Is there a setting I need to change on the time capsule to allow me to do this?

I recall that I found the video in the Library folder sometime ago (I forgot where) but it had no sound. If someone could tell me where to find the video and the audio of this,

My macbook pro 13" 2011 Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4(11E53) need to wait for a long long time(at least about 5 mins, I have even tried once for 10 mins!!!! with the balnk white screen and a mouse pointer only) to successfully turn on ( that means I can "use" my macbook, using apps, browings internet etc.) in the past few days and also I have to wait long time(about a minute) to shut it down. Beofre this happened, I usually need to wait about a minute to turn it on and about 5 seconds to shut it down. I have no idea why this happened so suddenly.

I'm going to the Apple Store on Wednesday to most likely have my logic board replaced. To those who have had this done, how long does it normally take?
Also, if they determine (for some reason) that this repair is not under warranty, will they call me first to tell me so I don't get a huge bill?
As a side note. Where are the water sensors in the 17" MacBook Pro. I haven't spilled anything on it, but I have used it in some humid situations, and I fear that some of them may have been tripped erroneously. I don't know why I fear these sensors so much, but I just do.

Every time I switch on my Macbook Air, or wake it up from sleep, I lose my wifi connection. If I restart my wifi router, the signal comes back, but once my Macbook Air goes to sleep, I always need to erstart my wifi router again. This is the process I go through several times each day:Â
(Wifi router is on.)
1. Turn on Macbook Air. It recognises my wifi network but has no internet connection.
2. Restart my wifi router.
3. After a few minutes, I get an internet connection on my Macbook Air.Â
Previous laptops and desktops have not had this problem. Do I need to change any settings in my Macbook Air? I'd be grateful for any help.Â
