For all of you who got your MBA2 13's how is the fan noise and heat under the usual suspects like Flash, Quicktime, and javascript heavy pages? Like the MBA1, does the heat go from 49C to 81C? Also, does the fan run really loud, all the time, and what is the RPMs? Please let us MBA1 owners know when you get a chance.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI am almost 100% that an iMac 27 is my target, (not quite discounted the MP but lack of remote without extra is actually a big factor).I would prefer the internal HDD bays and such forth, but I've had a MP before and as I have some ext FW its not a deal buster. The imac looks stunning, has simplicity and a nice big screen.My only real questions are (with it being on top of the desk); what's the noise and heat like for the i5 and i7 models? I'd like to get thoughts on both.For my uses an i5 has enough oomph, but the i7 would be nice (just speed up those transcodes etc).Is there a huge difference in the power draw on these machines (I have a 1200VA UPS).
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I 1st got my computer, I seem to remember it running full-screen video without using the fan. Now, when I look at a regular video in a window, the fan well run pretty heavily. Is this just a function of having a 2-year-old computer? It can't keep up with advances in software and compression, or is it a matter of accumulating “stuff” on it that makes it run less efficiently? Or is it because I run it on an external monitor? It is held on its side in a book arc stand. I thought this was supposed to make it run cooler, not faster?

I just got my first 13' MacBook Pro 1 week ago and a couple of days I ran a cross a thread about how to look up your battery condition and most peoples said their Battery Condition was "Good" but mine is showing "Normal" and I just got it a week ago. My question is, is this really normal or should it say Good?

My question is that why under System Profiler, it told me that the battery condition is normal? Where my other 13" MBP that my brother owns for about a month is showing Good.
i tried calibrating it, and it still shows Normal. Coconut battery says I have 100% battery health. But still, it's kinda annoying for me.

It is completely up to date with Snow Leopard and I almost never download 3rd party software. I pretty much only use the included iLife apps and a bit of iWork, so I'm not sure what could be slowing the process down. I was thinking I could reinstall Snow Leopard.
its my mac-book pro. It turns on i get the white screen with the apple symbol and the loading circle. But it pretty soon after i see that screen come on it shuts off. The hard drive seems to start up softer then usual.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my 2.0ghz Alu Macbook a few days ago and everything works perfectly well, the thing is that after day one the magsafe started to emit a low pitched electrical whistling noise. It tends to be there a few minutes after booting into the OS and then it turns down to almost unhearable, but I experienced it returning after a few hours of use and then disappearing again. If I move close to the escape key I can hear a crackling noise emitting from the magsafe.I'm not trying to be overly nitpicky or anything but I read somewhere that if it's doing that it would be a faulty Mag-Safe board or something.
Does any one you guys know anything about this? I have the 14 days to return it as I bought it online from the Apple Store so if it's a faulty part that might die/break/ cause problems later I might have to.
Sometimes I lift and carefully move my 17-inch MBP a short distance to another flat surface without putting it to sleep mode, it starts making really loud mechanical noise when I put it down, so loud that people in the same room can hear the noise and I can feel vibrations too! What causes this? Where does this noise come from? Is my MBP defective?

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my 13" MacBook Pro, the hinge makes a cracking noise on the right side of the computer (near the power button) when the screen is positioned all the way back.The entire hinge also makes a loud popping noise when I adjust the screen position. The screen seems very tight, and it takes a little bit of effort to move the screen, and when the screen is moved it makes the loud popping noise.
This is probably going to make some of you guys cringe, but sometimes putting pressure down on the top of the case close to where the black hinge meets to unibody enclosure seems to stop the popping noises. Putting downwards pressure on the hinge, or flipping the computer over and putting pressure on it that way, also seems to alter how much popping noise there is.
If I mess around a bit with applying pressure on different parts of the computer around the hinge, I can usually eliminate the noise. But, the cracking noise when I put the screen all the way back is still there.Any ideas what to do? It's not interfering with the operation of the computer, it's just incredibly annoying and this is only a four month old machine which shouldn't be creaking and cracking already.
Has anyone else had problems with an old G3 Pismo making an annoying squealing noise when plugged into a charger? There's a lot of noises mentioned in mac/apple forums but none of them relate to this one. Here's what it is not:
It's not coming from the screen or the fan or the speakers (it's under the keyboard). It's not low or slightly annoying (it is a loud squeal). It happens only when the power adaptor is plugged into the laptop.(it used to cease after I unplugged the power adaptor and plugged it back in three times; now that solution doesn't stop the noise anymore). It charges ok, and runs ok, scream or no-scream. It's quiet right now, but if I move the adaptor to another plug it will start again.
I was going to live with this, but today after an hour of operating quietly it just started again, and I hate to leave the house with this going.(it will scream whether the laptop is on or off. I have a really old battery and cannot replace it (I am currently staying in Mexico for the summer). Battery life is 45 min. I haven't tried pulling the battery out. That would be too easy.
This all started when I bought a replacement power adaptor (generic),after the original one melted down, but I could stop the screaming by unplugging/plugging it in again once or twice. Then I bought an expensive iGo adaptor, and it does the same thing.

Well, my Macbook [white 2,1] has been running at a normal speed and all, but up until a few days ago, my internet has been noticeably slower. I view a lot of pictures and manga/comics online, so when i click to go to the next it loads very slowly, Youtube videos take a long time to load, and buffer every few seconds.
Normally, they would go smoothly and fast, I'm wirelessly connected to my router which hasn't changed and I've been in the same area of my house too. The desktop and other laptop that my family members use don't have this problem either. My family uses a Telus cnnection.
I've already cleared cookies and cache, I went into the Cookies folder from spotlight and deleted all inside it and emptied trashbin.
When I turn on my macbook pro I'm getting a single beep followed by nothing. It started happening all of a sudden a few days ago. Following the beep, I hold down the power button to turn it off again and start it up and then usually get nothing a couple of times - eventually after 2/3 goes at turning it on and off, it'll eventually start up as usual. I've read that 1 beep signals a problem with RAM? Is that right? The RAM I have in there what it came with so I can't imagine it's that.

Are there any fixes for this or is it just how it goes? I tried vacuuming it out and cleaning some of the dust out to help the airflow a little but some places are a little hard to access without tearing it apart.

I was just wondering, the drive came through the post, it was well packaged, though is there was way of scanning it to see whether its 100% condition? I'd like to conditionally format some cells in a single column with a condition format like: <COndition 1> AND <Condition 2> AND <Condition 3> However, the (paltry) help seems to suggest that I can only do a logical OR of the conditions. It says "If more than one condition is true for a cell, Excel applies only the formatting of the first true condition to that cell."
Although that is a bit vague, I certainly can't get it to do logical AND through the graphical interface. Google has failed to find me the answer. Sniff.
We ahve taken the Mac plunge.We purchased an 21.5' iMac and 13" Air refurbished, both are X 10.7 with the extended care and 1 to 1 for both of us.I am also picking up a new Timecapsule 2TB.I am wondering about questions of setup and apps to use.We are clumsy with this stuff and only familiar with MS Office and Outlook.Our use does not include gaming, music, or hardcore picture manipulations.My business use does not require building spreadsheets and usually viewing only.I have not used Powerpoint type presentations but am preparing to learn to.I also plan to add simple graphics skills to draw simple tooling schematics.I am in the oilpatch service industry in Canada.We like simple clean programs that do not shove prompts down your throat ot presume to know what we want.Dare I say we are very tired of the bloated insecure world of PCs, no insult intended.We don't need endless fonts and templates.
Is MS Office for Mac a requirement? Will Works do what we need? Will Safari replace Outlook or would you pick another app like Firefox? What about search engines for Mac? What virus protection programs and utilities are handiest?Using hindsight if you were making tha transition to Apple this week what would be your basic setup decisions?The biggest concern is will I be compatible with my business colleagues?
