Well, my Macbook [white 2,1] has been running at a normal speed and all, but up until a few days ago, my internet has been noticeably slower. I view a lot of pictures and manga/comics online, so when i click to go to the next it loads very slowly, Youtube videos take a long time to load, and buffer every few seconds.
Normally, they would go smoothly and fast, I'm wirelessly connected to my router which hasn't changed and I've been in the same area of my house too. The desktop and other laptop that my family members use don't have this problem either. My family uses a Telus cnnection.
I've already cleared cookies and cache, I went into the Cookies folder from spotlight and deleted all inside it and emptied trashbin.
software is upto date yet my macbook gets slower and slower by the day

I have been having some problems with my MacBook Pro going slower and slower and then eventually grinds to a halt. I'm not sure what is causing it....Is there a log that will show me any memory leaks or at least what was using up the most memory/CPU at the time it freezes? a lot of times it freezes awhile after the screensaver kicks in.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I 1st got my computer, I seem to remember it running full-screen video without using the fan. Now, when I look at a regular video in a window, the fan well run pretty heavily. Is this just a function of having a 2-year-old computer? It can't keep up with advances in software and compression, or is it a matter of accumulating “stuff” on it that makes it run less efficiently? Or is it because I run it on an external monitor? It is held on its side in a book arc stand. I thought this was supposed to make it run cooler, not faster?

When I turn on my macbook pro I'm getting a single beep followed by nothing. It started happening all of a sudden a few days ago. Following the beep, I hold down the power button to turn it off again and start it up and then usually get nothing a couple of times - eventually after 2/3 goes at turning it on and off, it'll eventually start up as usual. I've read that 1 beep signals a problem with RAM? Is that right? The RAM I have in there what it came with so I can't imagine it's that.

Have a G4 MDD and it has started to run hotter than usual. Its actually starting to seriously affect the temp in the room. Are there any fixes for this or is it just how it goes? I tried vacuuming it out and cleaning some of the dust out to help the airflow a little but some places are a little hard to access without tearing it apart.

Is MS Office for Mac a requirement? Will Works do what we need? Will Safari replace Outlook or would you pick another app like Firefox? What about search engines for Mac? What virus protection programs and utilities are handiest?Using hindsight if you were making tha transition to Apple this week what would be your basic setup decisions? The biggest concern is will I be compatible with my business colleagues?

For all of you who got your MBA2 13's how is the fan noise and heat under the usual suspects like Flash, Quicktime, and javascript heavy pages? Like the MBA1, does the heat go from 49C to 81C? Also, does the fan run really loud, all the time, and what is the RPMs? Please let us MBA1 owners know when you get a chance.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy late 2008 15" MacBook Pro has been taking a lot longer than usual to start up and shut down (lengthy spin wheel cycles).
It is completely up to date with Snow Leopard and I almost never download 3rd party software. I pretty much only use the included iLife apps and a bit of iWork, so I'm not sure what could be slowing the process down. I was thinking I could reinstall Snow Leopard.
its my mac-book pro. It turns on i get the white screen with the apple symbol and the loading circle. But it pretty soon after i see that screen come on it shuts off. The hard drive seems to start up softer then usual.

When at home, I have Time Machine backup to a Time Capsule (and a couple of external drives that I rotate off-site).
I'd like to guard against losing any files changed while I'm away from home for some days should I lose my hard disk. One possibility is having an external HD with a full TM backup on it but this isn't appealing to me because the HD would end up being stored close to my Macbook and it's possible they could disappear togather. The volume of modified data to backup would easily fit on a USB stick or SD card that I could keep in my pocket.
Is there a way to backup only those files modified since my last backup to Time Capsule (to my SD card)? Some reading about rsync, mtmd and mtmfs didn't yield anything useful.
My current workaround is to create a smart folder in Finder of files modified after a specified date and copy these to the SD card. This doesn't preserve the directory structure.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a MacbookPro 2.4 intel duo core - Latest Snow Leopard - 2 gig ram. No trauma in it's life - never been dropped. I have a fair knowledge of computers but by no means am I a techie. Up until now my MBP has been running fine ( no strange behavior or noises etc. ). It now wont start. It refused to wake up from sleep last night. I've pulled the battery, used pwoer adapter etc. In a normal startup - there is a brief whirr sound, followed by the startup chime. My MBP makes the whirr, but thats it - no chime and no further activety. The the screen is blank, there is no keyboard lights, there is no sound if pressing the volume key. - I have tried: - Zapping Pram - Starting it up as a target drive - Plugging in an external drive to start from that -- the drives green LED lit up so assume there's USB power - and the LED will turn red ( but only once so I assume there is no 'conversation' ). - Tried a forced restart using - Cntrl - Power button. This gets me to the initial whirr again but no further. i have NOT yet tried to reset the PMU - how do you do this? Anything else it could be? Anything else I could try? I need it back asap for work - my last resort is to pull the hard drive and try to use it as an external drive to access my info - but I'd like to exhaust all tests before I do that.

I cannot get PS3 to recognize (connect) with my MacBookPro following an update to MediaLink 1.59. With the earlier version of MediaLink I could look at photos on our tv via PS3. Now I do not get the icon for MediaLink when looking at, for example, photos on PS3.

Safari and Mail are the only items that I have set to launch on signing in. I have removed extra fonts and languages also turned magnification off to speed things up, but its mainly the start up thats just a bit slower than usual.

i frequantly use my macbookpro in huge wi-fi area's and notice a lot of other mac/pc users on their computers as well. Is there a way to totally monitor the network I'm on..(how many users, bandwidth using)
I've seen/heard people "hacking" into others computers on the network and messing stuff up. I just wanna prepare/protech myself.
My brother's got an early 2008 MacBook Pro 17'' running on OSX 10.5.8, in his new room he shares the router with some other rooms. When he's connected alone or on the same time than PCs or iPod Touch he doesn't get any problem. But as soon as there's another Mac that tries to connect, both of the Macs start to connect and disconnect immediately and continuously, sometimes popping up messages like "impossible to connect, wait a minute". The router is a Thomson.
