MacBook :: Laptop Holds Charge Only In Sleep Mode / Shut Down

Jul 3, 2010

I tried SMC resets and everything. The Macbook takes a charge and charges normally when it is asleep, or off. It will charge to the max (96%). Battery has 349h load cycles. Charges when asleep or off. As soon as I power on the laptop or wake it up, it will stop charging. Battery holds the normal charge I usually get (3ish hours). Tried a few pram and smc zaps. Battery charger is a Hong Kong knockoff. Battery inside is genuine. 2008 Aluminum Macbook. Cleaned magsafe and port with q-tip and still to no avail.

When plugged in, it will run *off the battery* and the charger will show a green light and not trickle charge the battery. It will drain the battery, and then when it is drained it will run off the power. Check the screen shot. I am thinking that the charger is the culprit. Because it holds a charge when I let it charge while it is off. It will charge up just fine, in the two hours or whatever it takes to charge itself up. Battery usage is normal when it is running off the battery.

MacBook Pro :: (OS X 10.6.8) No Longer Holds Charge

Jun 2, 2014

About a month ago, I unplugged my MacBook Pro from the wall charger and it immediately turned off. From then on, it will not turn on on its own, and I have only been able to use it when it is plugged into the wall. The battery icon says "Replace Now" and "Not Charging," even when plugged in. I currently have 1072 charges on the computer, and just downloaded a firmware update that seems to be designed to address this exact problem, but to no avail. However, it was holding a fairly strong charge up until the point when it stopped working, so the whole event seems quite bizarre to me and I feel like something must be happening.

MacBook Pro :: Double Tap Restarting After Sleep Mode / Restart / Shut Down

Oct 23, 2010

so i've been having an issue with the double tap to hi-light any text i wish to copy. Such things as double tapping the URL bar to hi-light the whole url so i can just retype w/e site i want to go to. Every time i restart or turn off or my mbp goes to sleep and i reopen it, the double tap function resets. So i'm forced to go to the system preferences > trackpad> "double-click speed" to slowest in order to get my double tap to hi-light anything again. Is there something wrong with my mbp? Or is there a way i can save the settings when i put the double-click speed to slow so that it wont reset every time my mbp needs to be woken up or restarted?

Every time you put the ibook into sleep mode while the power cable is connected the ibook goes to sleep for a second or so and then wakes up again... If the screen is shut it just continuously keeps repeating the process...

I would be very grateful if anyone could advice me on what to do or recommend any diagnostic checks i should do to rectify the problem...

OS X :: Why Does My G-5 Shut Down My Computer In Sleep Mode

Nov 14, 2008

Could someone please explain to me why my computer is shutting down in sleep-mode. In addition, when it happens, the fan goes into hyperblow, which doesn't make sense because it would not be operating if the system were completely shut down. It acts like it is shut down but won't respond or wake up, etc. I re-loaded my system software per the Mac Store Genius' advice, but that didn't work. Is it possible that my power supply is going?

MacBook :: Battery No Longer Holds Long Charge / Worth Pursuing A Replacement Battery?

Jun 2, 2009

purchased a macbook Unibody back in October 2008 when they were released and use it heavily. The battery no longer holds a nice long charge - I get about 2 to 2.5 hours out of a full charge.

The battery has 149 cycles on it, which is obviously high (and correct, I use the hell out of it). With it still being in warranty, is it worth pursuing a replacement battery? Will Apple tell me to go take a hike with the high cycle counts?

Software :: System Not Exiting Sleep Mode / Kicks Back Into Sleep Mode

Dec 29, 2009

As of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.

The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.

How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.

MacBook Pro :: Charge While Using Laptop

Does it matter if I'm charging my MBP even when it has full battery and I am currently using it? I.e. using the charger instead of using the battery? MacBook Pro :: Laptop Can't Seem To Get A Charge?

Mar 24, 2012

The only method I have to charge my laptop on my boat is by a 115V outlet. Both the power converter for the Macbook and the wall socket work fine, and so does my battery, but I think that there may just not be enough power. Is there any way to keep charging my laptop? Possibly a product that will produce either enough amperage or voltage to continuously charge my laptop? I'm going to need to be out on my boat for continuous periods of time for a research project.

MacBook Pro :: Why Won't Laptop Charge

Dec 3, 2014

I did a hard reset of my magsafe charger, changed from the 3 prong to 2 prong charging end. I go into system preferences and do system report -> power and an error message comes up saying that "there was an error while gathering this information."

The laptop will not charge, and battery is at 69% while plugged in. Also, even though the battery is at 69%, it will not turn on without being plugged in to the charger. It also will not wake from sleep. I've restarted several times. What should I do next? I'm hoping that I will not have to buy a new battery.

MacBook Pro :: Laptop Loses Charge Quickly With Cover Closed?

Nov 13, 2010

I just bought a new MacBook Pro with a solid state (flash memory) disk. The battery life is good while I'm using it, but if I leave it with the cover off for a few days (asleep, I assume), it'll be mostly discharged when I open it up. I assume this isn't normal - it shouldn't be losing that much charge when closed and hybernating. I don't have "wake for ethernet access" checked, if that makes a difference. What's going on - why won't it hybernate?

MacBook Pro :: Laptop Shut Off When Battery Gets Down (5 To 10 Percent)

Nov 23, 2010

I'm having a strange issue with my MBP 1, 1. It's recently picked up a new habit that I find to be rather annoying. When the battery gets down to between 5 and 10%, the laptop will just shut off. No hibernation, no sleep, just a hard shutoff. The battery seems to be in good health; although it does have a high cycle count, I still get around 2 hours of usage out of a charge. I would think that a calibration would solve the problem, but with the hard shutdown, would that even be possible?

OS X :: Shut Down UMPB But The Battery Still Loses Charge?

Sep 29, 2009

I thought when you shut down a mbp, that means you power it off completely and no drainage should occur.

Every time I turn off my mbp late at night around 1am and turn it back on in the morning around 10, I seem to lose about 1% charge. I'll have 100% go down to 99% or I'll start off at 99% and in the morning, wake up to see its at 98%.

Also, I recently downloaded the Deep Sleep widget and tried it out. Going into Deep Sleep actually preserved my battery charge at where it was.

MacBook Air :: Battery Loosing 20 Percent Charge During Sleep

May 7, 2008

After all is said and done, and heavy Macbook Air use, there is only one thing still bugging me. Its not the slightly uneven lighting, not the 3 hours charge nor the 3:30 battery life I get constantly, nor the 6200 RPM fan. When I charge to 100% and let it sleep for 12 hours, I lose about 20% of the charge. Yesterday I was at around 25% and when I opened it this evening, 24hrs later, there was nothing left. If I leave the macbook air closed, I think that the battery would reach 0% after 3 days. This is not normal and some kind of leak.
