Jun 15, 2009I just installed Adobe CS4 which includes Flash Player 10. Since then, my QucikTime does not pop up and open stream audio file automatically. Instead, the Flash Player opens the file within the safari 4. Is there any way that I can make QuickTime Player become the default player for this type of file?

Jul 6, 2012Safari does not have sound when using the flash extension. Same sites work well on Firefox. Any ideas of fixes?
I uninstalled and reinstalled Flash. I tried youtube5 extension (improved streaming, but still not sound). Searched for answers, but most seem to predate current Safari/Flash combination.
I have OS 10.7.4, safari 5.1.7 and flash player plug-in 11.3.300.257.
I am not sure when this problem crept in, but it safari worked well in before in OS 10.7.4 , but have upgraded Safari since, and it is possible that Flash auto-upgraded (I disabled this, but had not realized that that was a default setting - ugh).

Sep 1, 2009I normally leave my speaker output balanced right in the middle (under System Prefs>Sound>Output), however I have noticed that my audio output has been going out of balance by itself recently.
One speaker will sound louder than the other and sure enough, I'll go to the system prefs and the balance will be off. Nobody has else uses my machine and I know that I don't ever touch the audio output.
I have an iBook G4 running 10.4.11 connected to a pair of Brookstone speakers and subwoofer.

As a result when I plug in my Ipod, or a CD player, into the mic jack (audio input) on my Mac Mini I can't get the audio to play out of the speakers or headphone jack. I can see that the mic is definitely picking up a signal. I have a mac mini (solo intel) 10.4 OSX. Audio output from ITunes or music movies clips in IPhoto works fine. I have checked the cables and connections. I have checked the "sound" location in System Preferences to make sure the "built in output" source is selected. The input volume display shows that the audio input is being registered. I have checked "system profiler" in the Utilities folder in Applications to make sure the "built in output" AKA headphone outlet is recognized.
I have the "Soundflower" App. installed but turned off.
Does anyone have an idea as to why the audio output from the internal sources like ITunes and IPhoto music clips work but the audio output from an external input source like my Ipod or CD player does not? WHY DOES THE AUDIO/MIDI SETUP SAY "OUTPUT NOT SUPPORTED"?

The reviews said that the audio output option under system preferences should show up with the receiver, but all it has is my computer speakers.

Jan 17, 2009I've got a Headroom Headphone Total Bithead mobile Amp., 2.66 MacPro, and Sennheiser HD650's (that are hard to drive). The amp. has a high and low gain switch. The low gain sounds better, but I can't get enough vol. when on low gain. I've got iTunes level up as high as it can go. I've played around with Sound prefs. and the Audio/Midi sound levels. They all seem to actually be the same vol. control.
I also see that iTunes, under "Get Info" has an individual vol. adjustment, but I'm not sure if I really want the sound files to be pumped up for when I use them on my iPhone.

Jul 16, 2009Having gone through the settings, i have a speaker system plugged into my white macbook through the 3.5mm audio jack. I am running OS X Leopard 10.5.7 and am unable to find the options that i thought were available previously in tiger to configure the speaker setup/orientation. For example whether i am using satellite speakers, or 2 speakers either side, 3 4 or whatever it was, just like i would if i was using windows. It has a section under "Sound" then "Output", however it seems to be automated, i cannot add or remove, or edit items within the list.

Apr 14, 2010I've had a problem with my MacBook Pro (2008) for a while. If I connect a headset or external speakers, there will be no sound from the Macs audio output. The built in speakers is working perfectly. Do you have any idears what could be the reason? I tryed do reset the Pram but with no luck. If it helps there is no red light coming out of the macs output. The problem occurred when I connected a mini-jack for my speakers. Maybe the output thinks it's a S/PDIF and not a normal audio output?

May 25, 2012I own a 2011 Macbook Pro and as stated above I can only hear out of my left ear. I've tried multiple headphones, checked the settings and tried changing the balance and it completely shuts down the music if I move it over to the right ear. I am running OS X Lion as extra information.

Jun 25, 2012Well i'm progressing with my connecting the Mac to the TV... Have the video going fine with the Mini DVI to HDMI but for the life of me I can't get the audio output going. I have the 3.5mm RCA jack cable in the output from the Mac and the computer has recognized that it's plugged in and comes up at headphones. Now the problem is getting the TV recognize the audio input.
I've read elsewhere that there should be a way to set the TV to allow a video HDMI input along with an analouge audio signal.

Jul 2, 2012The audio jack in the back of my iMac is not working. This has happened off and on before but it seems to have totally failed now. There is supposed to be a red light visible inside the jack. I believe the digital output is sharing this jack, there is no red light working now also. I am using a USB to M-Audio box to send my sound to my speakers right nw.

Dec 24, 2009I am streaming iTunes to another room using an Audioengine AW1 (over usb, not the analog input) and it works fine. Looking at JACK audio, Soundflower or Apple's AudioMIDI utility, I feel I should be able to use one or a combination of these resources to output iTunes to both the AW1 and my desktop's headphone port. Unfortunately, I can't seem to perform both. Well, technically I can in using a "y" audio cable to output from the Mac headphone port to headphones and to the analog-in on the AW1's, but that really doesn't work adequately. The output volumes are considerably lower and tied together. I am looking to figure out how to add a usb audio device as another, and simultaneous output.

I used it to send iTunes music through a USB audio device to powered speakers while playing Office apps noises through the built-in speaker. They discontinued it with 10.4 because Apple changed the way audio is handled. Question: Is there some similar app that maybe let's you control volume of each audio-emitting app? So I could turn Office all the way down (all those grating save chimes are killing me) while keeping iTunes all the way up?

May 21, 2009I've never noticed this before 10.5.7, and it's only happened to me twice, both in the last 24 hours.
Since it is random, I can't replicate it, but I can't confirm if this happens when you change the system volume, which used to happen on my old 12" PB. That problem was apparently caused by high CPU load messing up the volume change.
It's all in the title, the right channel mutes (both times this happened it was left biased) completely, and checking Sound Prefs. shows that my output balance slider is all the way to the left.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?
Mac Pro :: Sound System - Getting Audio Through Optical Output
May 25, 2009I recently bought a 2009 Mac Pro. Now, I'm trying to setup a small bedroom home theater. And sound is still my main problem here. I used my Mac Pro mainly for doing graphic works, listening to music, watching movie, and gaming sometimes.
Here is what I currently have.
8-Core Mac Pro
40" 1080p LCD TV for Movie
24" LCD for doing graphic work
Harman Kardon Sound sticks (trying to get rid of this and replace it with a 5.1 or 7.1 system)
And here is what I'm buying
5.1 or 7.1 Receiver
Speakers
My plan is to get audio out through the optical output. But according to several articles I read online, optical output does not transmit audio when I play music on iTunes or play games (in BootCamp), is it true? So far, I couldn't find any sound card (internal or external) which work for mac pro that has 3 analog 5.1 signal output which I can use with standard 5.1 speakers. The only things I found is the Creative DDTS-100 and the FireWire which were all discontinued. What other options do I have?
MacBook :: Audio Output - Headphone Jack
Jul 9, 2009I was using my 13" White Macbook (Spring 07) all day today, listening to music on headphones while working. I brought my computer over to a friend's house and attempting to line out some audio from Garage Band to speakers through the headphone jack and suddenly all audio began to have skips & spaces every second or so. I can still the hear songs but they are constantly interrupted. I tried Itunes & audio from the internet, and two different pairs of headphones I know work. Same problem every time. The strange thing is that the audio works perfectly out of the internal speakers. Has anyone had this same problem? I haven't seen anything on the web that was similar. I tried the Q-Tip/Toothpick trick suggested on a bunch of other threads. But I don't think it's an issue of the computer not adjusting to the headphone setting. Also tried to resetting the battery, but that didn't work either.
