I am having several problems all started when I migrated from my old Mac Pro to my new one, I would like to re-install the OS so it is clean, but I don't waant to loose all my Apps.Â
If I use the re-install through the front button double press will this overwright everything?Â

For some reason I have to install some applications via MacPort, such like ImageMagick, however, I saw other applications(e.g. vi, vim, etc) also available via macport, there are already built-in programs like vi, if I install something via macport which are already built-in, will there be any problem or the newer ones just overwrite old ones?

However, I will be doing a clean install of Snow Leopard on it to erase all my information and account, but how do I preinstall some of the software so that when the new guy gets it, he also has the software that I chose to put on there as a sort of bonus?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, husband booted from OSX disc, wiped computer using disc utility, now it won't reinstall from the same disc. He says the error message is "Can't be installed on this computer." When I asked what disc he used, he says it was "the only one that let me start up from it." I believe it is disc one of the mac osX install disc version 1.0. He said the disc that was labeled for the G5 wouldn't let him boot up. He is ranting now about there being no difference between PC's and Apple. If you can, please tell me how to fix this, or at least how to get the disc out while it is the computer's startup disc. He's about ready to to hit the wall.
Update: Got the disc out and am now attempting to install from G5 OSX disc but getting the "this software cannot be installed on this computer" message. Why? It is the right disc!
I have been having awful trouble with the Apps Store. Very slow and not returning searches.Â
So I decided to uninstall it and reinstall. I removed it with MacKeeper but then found I could not reinstall it.Â
If I click on Software Update it returns an up to date message.Â

I previously had Lion installed and decided to wipe my Mac and re-upgrade to Lion. So, I've both zapped the parameter RAM and erased the hard drive, then done a fairly normal install of Snow Leopard. It successfully goes through this process, using my recovery disc, I get through Apple's initial "out-of-box experience" including setting up a user account, and get to the desktop.
There are no issues to this point, no errors, etc. However, having put in the bundled apps DVD, when I run the installer, I get the error: "There were errors with the installation. The installation failed. An unknown error occurred. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I have repeatedly gotten this error. I have both done a simple reformat of my HDD and a "write zeros" option.
Also, I have tried this before and after doing any software updates. I've also used the Apple Hardware Test which says there were no problems. Disk Utility shows S.M.A.R.T. status as verified, hard drive formatting takes a normal amount of time, and there are no other symptoms of any kind. The unit is stock, and there is nothing attached except for the AC adaptor. The only thing I haven't done yet is do the Lion upgrade, but honestly I shouldn't have to do that just to reinstall the bundled apps.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am running a fresh install of OSX Snow Leopard, and have been trying to install some the of the fonts I was using before using Font Book. The fonts are being added successfully and validating and are enabled. They are not showing up in any of my apps however, whether that be Photoshop, or OpenOffice etc. It seems that all types of fonts have issues, Opentype, TTF, etc.

I notice that any new apps I try and install aren't launching.I tried to install the 30 day trial of Textmate and when clicking on App in Applications folder the icon just bounces on the dock permenantly.Clicking it again makes it disapear form the dock. I then tried to install BetterTouchTool and when I click on that absolutely nothing happens.Any apps installed prior open up fine.I did a Repair Disk and Disk Permissions, but nothing.I know it may be a loaded question potentially based on other apps I have installed, but hoping someone else has encountered and can at least point me on the right track.

I have a lot of apps that were already on my computer before the App Store came out (i.e. Evernote, iWork). However, the App Store never picks up that they're already installed. It would be great if the App store could see that type of thing. Does it? If so, how do I get it to scan for previously installed apps so that it knows what to look for when there are updates or upgrades?

I have recently purchased a USB Ethernet adapter so I can setup NAT on lion server that runs on a MacBook. I was shocked when it blew away my DHCP Config after I set up NAT, but I stuck with the scope it chose and added the correct DNS and gateway settings.Whenever I start DHCP now, the logs tell me the Config cannot be found, and it blows away all of my modifications to DHCP. On top of that, it won't hand out any addresses.If I stop DHCP, the system logs start telling me that "natpmpd" has started, and then it begins to hand out addresses. The problem with this is, I can't make any changes to the DHCP settings it uses, which means my clients are now getting the incorrect settings for the gateway and DNS.Also, when I modify the Scope with DHCP stopped, the logs tell me it cant update the subnet because it was not found.

This is likely a Snow Leopard issue, but since it's happening on my Macbook....
Icons are (mostly) not displaying. In Finder my /Applications folder is ok, but anything new I install into it will have a name but no icon. In /Applications/Utilities no icons are showing My dock is ok, so far at least. On my Desktop (my default folder for downloads) anything downloaded will have a name but no icon. When installing a new program no icon for the app displays, just the name.

I recently received a message that my startup disk was almost full. I keep all of my media on an external drive, have an apple time machine that stores the backups. I purchased the Space Gremlin and there is nothing on the hard drive that shows it's taking up that much space. The 500 GB hard drive shows only 11 GB free.

It currently has Tiger and I want to upgrade to Leopard (I bought a family pack for it and my powerbook). I have a bootcamp XP partition which I would like to keep and not destroy. Can I do a clean install except for the windows partition? Or will doing a clean install destroy bootcamp.
I have heard that your firewire port can get fried by using certain faulty pieces of gear. It hasn't happened to me, but the thought kind of scares me. Does anyone know if there is a way of preventing this from happening? If it did, would AppleCare cover it?

Some weeks ago, I installed OS X Yosemite, as shown on my App Store, that was a "System Update available for my IMac 2009". Followed all the steps, normally and installed it as I did many other times ago (with the Maverick, Mountain Lion, OS X).Â
Just after the installation, I noticed that every single folder or program that depends on "Apple", stopped working.Â
Examples: Office package opens normally, so as Firefox. But, IPhoto, ITunes, Safari and App Store itself do not.
When trying to reinstall Yosemite or return to the one I had before, using App Store became impossible. Even the "Apple Icon" on the top left corner does not work. I click, it flashes, just IF it was ready to open, but nothing happens, seams that have something stopping the "loading process" of the software.

Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
How do Universal apps, actually compare in performance as compared to Intel binary apps? Yeah, sure, they're "native" speeds, but surely there must be some erformance hit? I mean, it DOES contain two binaries.

Under purchases I'm getting "you have not purchased any apps." Under Itunes in the Cloud all my apps are listed as hidden but when I click "view hidden purchases" it says I do not have any hidden purchases. I have three Macs and all are experiencing the same issue so this is an account problem and not a computer software problem. The funny thing is that it's still recognizing updates.Yes, I've tried signing out and back in to view my account with no luck. The only thing I did weird last night was I disabled the Itunes store and automatic downloading on one computer. This morning when I had the above problem I put all the settings back.Â

I have no idea what happened. it was working fine last week, and then the other day I tried to open up iMovie and i get "The operation could not be completed / An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" This happens every time i try to open anything in my applications folder. the programs on my dock open up fine.

I have a new 21.5" iMac and have been playing around with everything. When I started two weeks ago I had an Apps folder with the Apps logo on the dock to the right of the dotted separation. All the applications are there lined up with the first application showing but for my consternation I cannot put the Applications in there folder like it was when I started out two weeks ago. This is the Snow Leopard OS.
