Mac Pro :: Finding Best Sata To Ide Adapter?
Nov 7, 2009
I have a small server type item and it takes ide drives, i want to get some terrabyte drives and install them with sata to ide adapters.
There is not a lot of room in the top as the container around it slides on it and the ide ports are on the top of the item where the lid slides on,
i need to get some sata to ide adapters that either have flexibility or are long cable type adapters?

What is the best way to go about this? I have seen some on Amazon that are dirt cheap but I don't know if they work. This is kinda off topic but will this work with a g4 AGP?

I'm hoping this can be answered with a simple "yup" so here it goes.
I have an 8-core 2008 Mac Pro tower. I need to throw a blu-ray burner in it.
The tower only has IDE interface cables for the two optical drive bays.
Will these play nicely together?

I have a lacie d2 firewire drive (120GB) that I want to upgrade to a 1TB HD, I know that the internal connection on the drive is IDE, however I have not seen drives of 1TB that have IDE connections on them. I have seen these IDE to SATA adapters and I am wondering if it will work for me if I get an internal SATA drive to replace my 120GB, assuming I have enough space to insert the adapter.

I'm looking to upgrade my hard drive, cloning everything over to the new one via external adapter. Are there any adapters out there that use FireWire 800 so I can get the best speed possible?

This weekend I starting getting the clicking sound of death from my boot drive. Today I ran out and got a Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB HDD that is SATA/300 drive. Are the higher read/write speeds supported by the MP 3,1 controller?
As I write this, I've got CCC cloning the entire drive and praying that it doesn't fail mid-copy.

I have a 13" MacBook Pro 2011, 2.3gHz, 320GB. What connector does it have? And would SATA still work with my laptop? One more question, what are the exact dimensions of the hard disk drive bay in my laptop, the manual only says 2.5".

I think my 23" ACD's AC adaptor is broken as it does not power the ACD. There are a few replacement AC adaptors on the market. Can you tell me which one I need to buy?
I was not able to power the 23" ACD with the one for a 20" ACD (45W). So, the replacement I need should be at least a 65W unit.

I've seen a video (although in German) of a magnetic USB adapter.
In the video, the girl plugs in a male USB piece into the car's radio and fits a female USB piece on the end of a USB Drive. They magnetically attached and the radio played music.
The magnetic pieces really reminded me of the MagSafe adapter.
Does anyone know where to find the magnetic USB adapter?
I want to use it to simplify docking my MacBook Pro so I only plug in the MagSafe and USB. I'll have input devices, USB sound card, external hard drive and my iPod plugged into the USB hub hidden under the desk.

I have a macbook that is not wireless n enabled. i know i could take apart the macbook and install a new airport card that is and that would work (and probably will one day soon) for the time being would a usb adapter work the same?
Also airport seems to drop its connection pretty frequently and doesn't like to work more than a few feet away from the docking station. I'm hoping it's because the airport card is old. Would an adapter fix this as well?

Im considering purchasing a higher capacity internal hardrive around the 750Gb/1Tb mark. However my macbook is the early 2008 model, and it seems the majority of hardrives are SATA II, having speeds of 3Gbt, which my mother board may not be capable of (apparently only 1.5Gbt) From researching and reading some reviews of others who have purchased internal drives on Amazon UK, some have had difficulty due to this problem, but have been able to fix the issue with a firmware update reducing SATA II drive speeds to 1.5Gbt.
Questions I have: Do all SATA / SATA II internal hardrives need a firmware update if replacing on to a new computer?(If so, would I need to look for a specific firmware update for the specific drive I intend on buying? And if you're in the knowledge would you mind posting links to these updates?)What is the process of updating the firmware i.e. would I need to put firmware on external usb hardrive 1st, then upload it to macbook after installing new internal drive (if it boots up my OS that is) etc. Would a 'hybrid' (disk+solid state) drive be compatible with a macbook as old as mine?Do I need to update my operating system to OS X Lion first, or can it be done after installing the drive?
my current laptop hardware:
Macbook Pro 15.4" (Early 2008 Model)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz ProcessorGeForce 256Mb 8600M GT Graphical Processor
Intel ICH8_M AHCI 1.5 Gbt MotherboardToshiba MK1655GSXF 160Gb 2.5" Hard DriveOperating System: OS X Leopard 10.5.8

I'm going to University next September (hopefully), and I want to be able to play my PS3 on my Macbook display (instead of taking my massive TV).
And I'd also like to be able to connect my freeview box which is a RCA/Scart connection. My PS3 is also RCA/Scart.

I still have a spare 85w Mains adapter and I'd like to be able to use it - my understanding (correct me if I am wrong) is that the MBP will pull the wattage from the mains so a larger one will do no damage. The Apple guy says he wouldn't recommend it (and hence tried to sell me a new 65w one).

I am on my new 27" iMac last night when all of a sudden the display froze and pix-elated for a second and then went black and a few seconds turned back on with an error message at the bottom right screen saying my display adapter had stopped . . . . .
I was in Windows 7 64bit Professional at the time. I also noticed that Apple is wanting download a newer version of Boot Camp which I will download tonight!
I went to the ATI website and found a new driver dated 4-2010 and downloaded it. All seems well but was wondering if anyone has had the same issue?

I have a macbook and I want to get a cinema display but I heard that the cinema displays from apple do not work with any other computer.
Does anyone know where I can get an adapter to have the display work with non-macbooks?
Also I posted this question on Apple Forums and they removed it with no answer because it can lead to rumours about new product releases so I am seeing if anyone here has an answer.

I'm looking for a new HD to replace the original, now failing Maxtor drive in my G5 tower (1.8 Ghz dual processor, purchased in Aug. 2004), and have just about settled on the Western Digital Caviar SE16 series. It seems there are two types -- SATA and SATA II -- and I'm not sure about how to make a decision on which particular WD model to buy.
Will either type work in my machine? Or would the SATA II have potential compatibility problems? I read somewhere in these forums that someone with a G5 had bought an SATA II drive, and it wouldn't run with his system. (He said he had to reset some jumper switches to reduce the transfer rate of the drive ??, but now I'm told elsewhere that SATA drives don't have jumper switches.
Information:
1.8 DP G5, 1.5 GB RAM w/ Superdrive
Mac OS X (10.3.x)

However, the question I encountered was whether the sata connection in the Mini is SATA-150 or SATA-300? Does anyone know?
