Mac Pro :: Yosemite (Thunderbolt 2 Disk Not Ejected Properly) After Sleep

Dec 9, 2014

Since installing Yosemite, when my Mac Pro comes out of sleep, I get a "Disk not ejected properly" for each disk drive attached by Thunderbolt 2. This all worked fine on Mavericks.

(I have a similar problem with my dual displays, which again worked fine on Mavericks - I've posted this on a different thread under Mac Pro).

Mac Pro :: Thunderbolt Drive Not Properly Ejected

Dec 7, 2014

I have a new Mac Pro and a new LaCie thunderbolt 2 drive. At irregular and unexpected moments the message appears 'drive not properly ejected'. Sometimes the icon is still on the desktop, sometimes it disappears. Nothing works, unchecking sleep boxes, using other thunderbolt port. Is it a Mac Pro issue or a LaCie thunderbolt issue? It is a huge problem of course.

I bought the LaCie drive from Apple. Which one should I return if necessary, the Mac Pro or the LaCie drive?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Time Machine Error Message Since It Upgrade - The Disk Was Not Ejected Properly

Since upgrading to Lion, I have been having problems backing up to Time Machine using a LaCie external disk. Time Machine worked fine before the upgrade to Lion. The backup usually starts correctly, but after backing up around 1GB, I get the following error message: "The disk was not ejected properly. If possible, always eject a disk before unplugging or turning it off". The disk has over 80GB of space available.

Hardware :: Mac Cannot Detect Files - Camera Not Properly Ejected

May 6, 2009

I would like to ask about retrieving some lost files (photographs) on my computer/camera. On Sunday evening, I was uploading photos from my Sony DSC-T10 camera onto my Mac OSX v.10.3.9 Powerbook. While I was deleting some of the files I had uploaded, the camera battery died and was not properly ejected from my computer. After I re-charged the batteries, I connected my camera to my computer again and the computer could not detect any files/photos in my camera. I had approximately 512 photos on the camera that have disappeared.

Note that when I connect my camera to my computer, the files I had been deleting just before the camera battery died shows in my Trash folder. However, when my camera is not connected to my computer, the files do not appear in my Trash folder. I went to Applications > Disk Utility to attempt to find my lost files and the following information appears at the bottom of the screen:

Format: MS-DOS File System
Permissions Enabled: No
Folders: 0
Capacity: 949.8 MB
Available: 775.5 <B
Used: 174.3 MB
Number of Files: 512

IMac :: SSD Drives Being Ejected When In Sleep Mode?

Sep 17, 2010

I installed two SSD drives into my 27" i7, one in the SSD location and one replacing the optical drive. So I have two SSD's (128GB + 256GB) and the stock WD 1TB drive.

My issue is once I put the machine in sleep mode, the iMac is ejecting the SSD's. If I boot off of the hard drive and then put it in sleep mode, I will drop both SSD's. If I boot off of one of the SSD's and put it in sleep mode, the SSD that was used for booting will not be ejected, but the other one will.

Anyone else running multiple SSD's (not in raid) and is having the same issue? I am beginning to think that I will have to live with just one SSD as the boot drive (which is not the end of the world). Or, cough up an extra $540 (not likely) for another 256GB SSD and raid 0 two of them as boot drives.

MacBook Pro :: Thunderbolt To HDMI Does Not Detect TV On Yosemite

Dec 3, 2014

I have a Mac Book Pro, my partner a Mac Book Air. I bought a thunderbolt to HDMI cable from eBay so my partner could plug her Air into the TV. When the cable arrived, it would not detect our LG TV from either computer. So a bit of playing around and this is what I found.  I plugged the cable from my MBP direct to the HDMI port on the TV and nothing, no signal detected. I also tried from the MBP to the HDMI port on the amplifier of the surround sound system and again nothing. However, if I plug the cable from my MBP directly to the TV HDMI and select that corresponding HDMI port on the TV initially still nothing.

But if I then plug a normal hdmi-to-hdmi cable from my amplifier to the Mac Pro's HDMI port, suddenly the thunderbolt cable works and the Display Preferences sees the LGTV. I checked that the correct hdmi port was selected on the TV for the direct connection and I could even turn off my amplifier to make sure that I was not seeing the wrong signal and it still worked as long as the hdmi-to-hdmi was still connected at both ends. However, if I then unplug the HDMI cable from MBP or the amp, the thunderbolt port stops working as well and the TV displays "no signal detected".

It seems that there needs to be either a base signal or an earthing through the MacBook Pro's HDMI port for it to switch into an external monitor mode that will detect a thunderbolt to HDMI connection. This is sort of fine for my MBP as I had nothing working before but it seems a bit pointless having the HDMI cable plugged in as well as I might as well just use this in the first place. However, as my partner's Air only has a thunderbolt port and no HDMI port it still doesn't work with her MAC.

I have tried remedies such as deleting all printer drivers, deleting the printer, resetting the printer system, restarting the computer, reinstalling the printer, resetting PRAM, updating to 10.10.1. Nothing has worked so far. It was working fine a few days ago!

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Shutdown Properly Or Sleep?

Jan 17, 2010

I go to shut it down from the apple menu, it attempts to go through all the stages needed for a shut down, the screen goes black like normal, and then it restarts again (so, while, it nearly gets to the end of shut down, it never quite makes it, and starts up again!) The same thing happens when I decide to restart - there is no pause between shutting down and restarting, indicating that it does nor restart at all.

It does not sleep either. I put the lid down and everything is still going inside the laptop!

I hope that's a good enough explanation of what's happening!

The only way I can shut the computer down is by pressing the power button in the top right hand corner of my macbook - forcing a shut down.

I've tried resetting the PRAM and repairing disk utility but it has done absolutely nothing.

OS X Yosemite :: Messages Not Working Properly - Conversations Not Syncing

Nov 30, 2014

Macbook Pro 15" Mid-2010, Mac OS 10.10.1; iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.0, Messages

When I receive an iMessage on my iPhone, the message is successfully pushed to my Mac and I get a notification in Notification Center. That's fine. However, when I launch Messages either by clicking the notification when it appears or by opening the app, no conversations appear (window displays "no conversations selected") and after a while it just leaves me with a blank window and only minimize / fullscreen enabled. The majority of options on the dropdown menus are also greyed out.

Considering that the messages themselves are successfully getting pushed to my Mac, I don't think it's an account issue. It seems as though the app is getting hung up trying to load up my conversations.

I originally had this issue on 10.10.0 so I thought that it may have been a bug and updated to 10.10.1. It only started happening a few days ago, I've been running Mac OS 10.10.X since several days after launch with no issues.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Calibration - Unable To Properly Sleep

Dec 2, 2009

I have a 30 month old MacBook Pro (the SantaRosa line from June 2007)... And was still using the original battery up until 3 days ago. Its capacity suddenly dropped from 83% down to 45%, so I took it to an Apple store, they did a diagnostic, and without question told me the battery was defective, and just gave me a brand new battery with only 1 loadcycle on it. So today I decided to calibrate it, had it charged up, unpulgged it and let it run until it was 'supposed' to go to sleep... It had 0% left on it, the screen shut off, and the sleep light was just starting to dim, when I heard the hard drive go . (As if one pushed and held the power button, aka hard shutdown).

It seems it didn't have enough reserve capacity to let it go to sleep, so instead of waiting the 5 hours (as it wasn't sleeping, and pressing the button on the battery showed no lights at all), I decided to plug it in right away. Would it be a good idea to calibrate again, or simply wait a month or so and do it again then?

When I turned the computer back on, it didn't even resume at my desktop, so not only did it not get to sleep properly, it didn't even have a chance to write the memory to the hard drive, and now the actual battery capacity in Coconut battery is showing up 95%, 5253mAh

Just curious, as 30 months ago when I first got my original one, it calibrated properly and didn't completely die when it got to reserve capacity...

MacBook :: Won't Shutdown / Restart / Sleep Or Startup Properly

May 6, 2010

During start up I get the apple logo and everything boots although it takes forever, the apple logo goes away screen goes blue, and sometimes it loads to the login screen about 10 mins later, and sometimes it just sits there. - During restart, it shuts down makes all the appropriate sounds, screen goes dark, and all you hear is a residual humming from the inside under the keyboard, and then never restarts. (You have to force shutdown) - Same story as above with both shutdown, and sleep.

The only way to get it to load successfully is in safe mode, but even then it still wont do the above problem correctly, it just at least starts.

- Resetting the PRAM, Holding power button for 5 seconds until repeating flashes, I've tried reinstalling snow leopard 5 times, I've checked for updates, I've repaired disk permissions, I've repaired the disk, I've even tried stepping the OSX back down to 10.3(The original operating software for this MB)
