I am trying to watch a HD movie in 1080p on my Macbook Pro. Parts of my video will lag behind in QuickTime X, So i looked at the CPU history to see it at 100% out of 200%. So i tried another decoder (iTunes) and saw that my CPU usage went down to 20% with no lag and a Definition boost! I have no clue why iTunes is using GPU decoding while QuickTime X isn't. Anyone have a clue?
QuickTime Version: QuickTime X iTunes Version: iTunes 10.1 Mac OS X Version: 10.6.5 x86_64 Video Format: MPEG-4 movie, AAC for Audio and H.265 for Video
I was thinking about grabbing an external drive and doing some backups and such. Was wondering if anyone had been doing this and how much resources does it take up? I heard PAVTUBE was good.
Why can't the dedicated GPU's in macbooks/imacs/mac pro's can't do hardware decoding? This technology is already quite late and now it arrives for one on board chipset only? Come on Apple.
my new i7 macbook crashes (grey screen) whenever Im converting a video file to Apple TV format.
I tried handbrake, toast titanium and imedia converter. I also tried converting the same video files in windows 7 on my boot camp partition with handbrake and got a blue screen.
in my opinion, this has to be some hardware failure. i went to my local apple store and they checked my macbook on any hardware failures but couldnt find anything.
i just would like to get some more opinions on this problem before I sent it back. i spoke to apple care and they told me to reinstall mac os and see if it still crashes. but since it also crashes under windows, i dont think that reinstalling will solve the issue.
As a newbie to the Mac I have downloaded from the internet a series of multi-part files where the file names are filename.zip.001.1.bin, filename.zip.001.2.bin, filename.zip.001.3.bin etc through to filename.zip.001.60.bin.
I know that the '001' refers to the fact that it is disk 1 of a series but I cannot work out which is the best program to decode and restore to original. I suspect that I need to use one program to decode the .bin files and then possibly something like 'Split&Concat' to join the parts into one zip file and then unzip the file.
My problem is finding a program that will recognise the .bin files and decode them. I have tried 'Stuffit v10 & v12' and also 'BetterZip' but without success. The files were downloaded on a PC so is it possible that the PC has in some way made them an unrecognisable file format to the Mac, I think this is unlikely though. The files were stored on a FAT32 hard disk which the Mac is quite happy to read.
Audio Decoding on the 2009 Mac Pro causes the CPU temps to hit near 100% load temperatures and voltage requirements... Yielding a 30(c) rise in temps and a 50w additional power just for the task of Audio playback. Is this an OS X issue or hardware? This issue appears to invalidate major marketing points of the platform.
Its frustrating seeing a MP3 file played in Quicktime, bring the CPU voltage and temps so high.... This Can't be good... Ripping a DVD and listening to music pushes the Core i7 CPU to near 80(c) temps!! Basically bug turns the Mac Pro into a Heat Miser..
In this POST, VIRTUALRAIN took the time to document the severity of the long debated issue with detailed charts and data.
This issue has garnered the time and attention of many MR users and everyone attention to get to the bottom of this apparently
I'm looking to use the speakers (Logitech X-540) with my laptop with 5.1... but this is an analog system (has green/black/orange inputs), and Macbook Pros only output with optical through mini-TOSLink. What's the best (read cheapest) device for decoding the optical output to analog?
If this won't work, I'm probably willing to shell out a bit more cash (Z-5500 perhaps). If you have a digital 5.1 system recommendation ($350 or less), let me know.
Well I got rid of the quicksilvers since they died. Power supplys gave out and took the motherboards, So I sold what was left on EBAY.
My G4 Ethernet was sold to a co-worked and he is quite happy.
And I got this off ebay today:
Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G5Procs 2GB RAM (2 x 1GB PC3200U DDR SDRAM) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-117D Samsung HD160JJ/P 160GB SATA HDD (not apple labeled, not original to this system) (1) Power Cord pci106b,9 PCI Ethernet Controller
Well I didnt' read the fine print and BAZINGA! I noticed that it comes without a video card.
So For video editing, watching hulu and youtube and netflix What do you guys recommend.
I do have a PCI GEforce at home with 512 megs for PC and I was wondering if I could flash it and if so, does anyone know of a good walkthrough?
I copied a deposition from a DVD I was sent. I want to edit the deposition into clips with imovie, but I can't seem to get it to open. I have tried changing the file type and things like that.
if im viewing a website and they have flash video i want to save, how will i do this. i cant right click and get info there specialized player wont allow this.
Anyone know of a Mac OS X software that will capture streaming video and save in a playable format in Mac OS X? Kind of like Download Helper for Firefox captures FLV, MP4, MP3, etc... and saves it to your hard drive.
I ordered NFL game rewind so I can watch all of last years games. I was wondering if anyone knows how to save the videos I watch. The videos are in flash, but when I view activity monitor there is nothing being downloaded.
Someone at work recorded a screen capture video. Within the frame, there's good material but a lot of garbage around the edges that I don't want (what Sally Hogshead would call "screen crapture"). The good stuff lasts the entire duration of the clip, is not perfectly centered, and does not move at all in its placement or change size throughout the clip.
If I crop or trim, I can eliminate the garbage, either making it transparent or black (there's no other clip beneath it to show through) easily enough. Is there a way to then export just the desired portion of the video frame (the non-cropped good stuff) as its own video at a smaller frame size?
I listen to and watch a lot of podcasts. Quite often, after I am done listening to a Audio Podcast I will watch a video podcast. Some times it gets stuck and won't play the video but plays audio fine. Anyone else have this problem?
I was watching Apple's event on quicktime , and the whole 1:30 hour show streamed with no pre-downloading on my slow internet connection(512kbs at best) while youtube videos of 5 and 10 min will take very long time to load, actually they won't stream ever, all the time they will need to be downloaded at first, this goes for html5 AND flash. what is this technology apple is using to stream video? Why can't other websites utilize it as it is much more convenient? can you benefit using it on your own personal website?
It must be some ad blocker or something, but I can't view videos. I can't seem to find what's causing it. I can go to YouTube and watch a video, but when someone posts a link, I am unable to make it play. I'll get a site with a black rectangle where the video is supposed to be. Happens on links from tweets too. Safari and Firefox both. I tried the Flash uninstall/reinstall/disc permission/restart routine twice.
is it possible to use the video from the first startup of OS X everytime i startup the computer. i found the video on my computer i just need to figure out a way to do what i wanna do.
My PowerMac plays most small videos (640p) on YouTube just fine, as well it does an OK job at playing slightly larger videos in Quicktime. I would like to not have to worry about Flash any more. With the new 10.1 beta 2 I notice a nice boost in performance, almost tolerable. If I install a graphics card that supports Core Video will it free up the CPU? How can I tell if a card supports Core Video? As well, what cards do you recommend? Is it difficult to flash a graphics card to work with OS X Tiger in a PowerMac G4?
I'm trying to upload a Starcraft 2 tutorial video to youtube that was in .swf format, youtube doesn't like this though and it failed to upload.
Can anyone suggest a good .swf to (whatever format youtube likes) encoder or a different video recorder I can use to re-record the video in a friendlier format.
When I typically save video which I find online the format is .flv and Safari brings the video I click on right to my downloads folder. With .mp4 it just opens the file itself in another window in Safari. Does anyone know how to save the video itself?
