Mac Pro :: Video Card Overheating Error In XP Via BootCamp?

Jan 12, 2009

I have a Mac pro 2x2.66 with 5GB running 10.5.5. When I first bought my mac one of the things that helped me ditch the PC world was my ability to install bootcamp/parallels and XP so that I could play games when I wanted to. This worked really well at first and I loved every minute of CoD4 (for the PC) but lately (has been at least a year since I have played) when I reboot into XP (via bootcamp) I launch the game and the entire system locks up or the game crashes due to an error from the video card overheating. My first thought was dust that had built up over time but I checked and the inside of the mac is still quite clean. I tried to clean what I could and the holes over the case fan and the video card dont seem to have any dust on them. Also FWIW I upgraded the video card when I bought it to the Radeon X1900.

Windows On Mac :: Video Card - Bootcamp And Running Games

Feb 22, 2009

My macbook is the new 2008 series with 2 gb of RAM, the Nvidia Geforce 9400m, and Intel processor with 2.4 ghz. I check on srtest.com and I am supposedly able to run games like Crysis very well. Yet, when I launch the new Warhammer: Dawn of War II game, I am at a loss. I can only run the gme on the very lowest settings at the lowest resolution in order to run without lag. Also, for some reason my bootcamp partition says I have only 1.72 gb of RAM. I have a feeling the partition is just not recognizing the power I have.

Mac Pro :: Video Card For MacPro 1.1 (Steam + Bootcamp Friendly)?

May 26, 2010

I'm looking for a new video card for a MacPro 1.1 (Intel 2007) that will handle Steam source engine games decently and also work with bootcamp. I'm OK with BIOS flashing a PC card but I don't want to have to deal with patching files as well to get it to work since its going into a friends Mac and I won't always be around to show him how to patch stuff if he ever reinstalls OS X.

Windows On Mac :: System Overheating In Bootcamp?

Oct 23, 2010

I currently use an iMac i7 with Windows XP SP3 installed on the Bootcamp partition. I've noticed recently that when I'm on the Windows side for a long period of time the iMac gets quite hot and the fans are raging with a loud roar! Obviously, this does not happen on the Mac OS side. I got quite concerned, so I restarted it in Mac OS to check the iStat. The CPU fan was over 2000rpm and some of the temps just reached over 60 degrees C. So I decided to keep it in Mac for the time being and everything decided to calm down to the 'normal' temperatures. I've searched Mroogle / Google for solutions and it appears people are using smc Fan Control for Windows to increase the fan speeds. I'm not sure if this is the right path to go down where I can override the fan speeds and just put up with the fan noise... but is there another solution? Are there any drivers released to help deal with this issue or is it a windows problem?

Intel Mac :: Mid 2011 Graphics Card Overheating?

Apr 13, 2012

I haven't installed any new software in the last 3 months. About 2 weeks ago the iMac shut down on me out of nowhere. I put my hand on the top-rear and it was really really hot. I left it for an hour and tried to start it up again. A progress bar showed underneith the apple logo at boot up. When  it got to about 15% it shut the computer off again. It did this over and over. I restored from a Time Machine back-up and it worked. I started monitoring the temperatures inside and it seems my graphics card (the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB) runs constantly around 80 degrees C. That's hot. I'm not doing anything besides browsing and listening to iTunes so I don't know what could be stressing the GC. Nothing is out of the ordinary in the Activity Monitor.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7), i5 3.1 ghz, 1gb AMD 6970m

MacBook :: Crap - Can't Get Through One Youtube Video With Out Stuttering And Overheating

Sep 8, 2010

my MacBook runs like ****. It's constantly hot (CPU is always above 70*C), it can't get through one youtube video with out stuttering and overheating, it can't run my external sound card (Audio 4 DJ) in conjunction with anything else, and it can't play AVI files without freezing and bugging out. It's a 2nd gen Black MacBook with 2ghz processors, 2 gb of ram, and an upgraded WD 320 GB HD. Is this thing about to take a dump on me? Is the motherboard on its way out? Is there any chance of fixing this thing? It seems the only thing my computer is good for theses days is doing light browsing on the internet. (read light browsing = no flash and no html5.)

Desktops :: Need A Video Card/Replace A Video Card?

Sep 4, 2009

Ok so I have a old Mac Performa 640CD/Dos that I am trying to to get up and running again. I had a monitor for it but it fell off the couch and broke. So I thought maybe I can use an adapter with it in order to use PC VGA monitor. Well after getting the first adapter and trying it, no luck, then I tried one that had dip switches on it. Tried 640 x 480, 800 x 600, almost all the dip switch combination with no luck on getting anything on the screen. Could it be that I might have a bad video card and it needs replaced? Or is this particular model not compatible with PC VGA monitors?

Mac Pro :: Does A Video Card Always Have To Be The Mac Version Of That Card

Apr 28, 2010

I see here that my Mac Pro (Early 2008) is compatable with:

ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600
ATI Radeon HD 4870

It looks like in many cases there's two versions, and the mac version costs about 10x as much on ebay and in stores. Is that accurate, or is one of these models mac and pc compatable, and therefore the laws of supply and demand work in my favour?

(fyi: I just want the cheapest one, I don't do heavy GPU work)

Mac Pro :: What Is Best Graphics Card For 2006 Bootcamp

Aug 10, 2010

I have a 2006 mac pro with an x1900xt, I'm looking to get another card to run in Bootcamp (Win 7 32bit) for games. I was looking at flashing a 4870 but it looks like it's more trouble than it's worth (I see a lot of dual monitor issues, for example, and I require dual monitors).

What card should I get with minimum trouble such that I can use it in Bootcamp/Win7? I'll continue use the x1900xt for OS X. Looking for <$150, something like an ATI 4870 or 5750 (preferably without any additional special cables.

OS X :: Bootcamp And Partition Error

Jun 10, 2008

the other day ive decided to finally put xp on my macbook, just so everybody knows i use my macbook for my uni assignments and to store all my close memories (photos and diaries) so the data on there is vital and priceless. I launched the bootcamp application and i chose to partition 32gb for the windows, at this point i turned away to use my main PC playin a game while my macbook is partitioning away. i look back about 10mins later and i see a grey screen asking me to reset my macbook in few different languages. i didnt really read it properly thinking its apple and everything is idiotproof! it said to hold the power button in for few seconds to reset which i did, i resetted it and i was expecting the bootcamp to relaunch to further continue the operation (installin windows time or doin the driver disk thing) but it doesnt happen. i put the xp disc in and it doesnt load, and i look in finder and im missing a good 32gb, i restarted again holding the option key and i only see the Mac HD icon. i am a fairly new mac user and i just want to keep it full mac, i want to restore the way that it was without the stupid windows idea. is there a safe way to remerge my partitions together into the orginal full one? also ive used disk utitilies and it doesnt pick up another partition.

MacBook Pro :: Graphics Card Stops Responding On BOOTCAMP?

Jun 15, 2012

Since I had to jump through all kinds of hoops of the actual apple support page, I eventually turned to the community now, which as ironically a whole lot easier. Anyways, My problem is basically with BootCamp.I'm trying to run the CryEngine 3 SDK on a late 2011 macbook Pro, and the specs including the graphics card should be enough to handle it easily.Yet everytime I try to launch it, it plays for a little while (2 minutes) then comes up with an error along the lines of "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered".

I've checked and I have the latest drivers for the graphics card on the mac installed including the Catalyst Control Centre porgram. It seems like it should work, but it refuses to.I've read up on it a bit and it may be a problem with overheating, since when the mac beging running the CryEngine the fan starts going like crazy, basically at its maximum capacity, so It might be a problem with Over heating.

I've also heard that due to a few compatibility issues with Windows 7, the graphics dont switch properly which leads to this error and can be fixed by entering the windows BIOS and switching the graphics switching from dynamic to fixed, however i'm not sure if I really want to meddle with the BIOS.

I've checked both the CPU and the total RAM when running CryEngine however the RAM only gets to around 50% whilst the CPU barely tops 20%. Also the graphics card being a AMD Radeon HD 6770M is something that should be able to handle it.

OS X :: Bootcamp Windows XP Installation Error?

Sep 30, 2010

I am having trouble loading window XP pro OEM sp2 using Bootcamp on my macbook OSX 10.5.8 It gets through copying all the files and reboots successfully through to the install window and the setup program for windows (where it displays various marketing info and has dot buttons down the left hand side). It says it will take 39 mins to setup but the counter never changes and I have left it up to an hour and nothing happens although once I did get a disk error message (something about cleaning the CD - can't remember exactly). I am doing full installs and have tried FAT and NTFS. At first I thought it was because it was an OEM but it is a Microsoft OEM and other people online seem to have no problems and do not seem to get as far in the install if it is that. Is this a dud CD or version of windows or am I just doing something wrong?

OS X :: 32Gb SD Card Formatting Error / GUID

Jul 27, 2009

I currently am on an early 08 Macbook Pro 17". 2.4ghz with 4gb of RAM.

I've recently purchased a 32gb SDHC card. Trying to create a bootable emergency drive with os installed on it.

I plugged it into my Mac via usb adapter and it mounted fine. Was formatted as Fat-32. So went to disk utility and reformatted as 1 partition, GUID, Mac Os Extended (journaled), to make it a bootable disk for the os. When doing this it appeared to complete fine, but disappeared from my desktop. No longer showing up in finder. Still mounts in disk utility though. Tried different ports, rebooting, and reformatting,, with no resolve. Reformatted it back to Master Boot Record/ Ms Dos, and it mounts again fine in Finder. Can drag data to it with no issue.

Reformatted again as GUID and again it disappeared from Finder and desktop. This is where I'm confused...In Disk Util it completes the formatting and shows Map Scheme as GUID and journaled. The odd thing is that on the left where disks are mounted it shows the indented partition as disk3s2. Even though I've renamed it when formatting. It will maintain the name formatting back to Fat32, but not with GUID. Also if I try to repair disk it fails. " Disk Utility stopped repairing disk3s2 because the following error was encountered:

Filesystem verify or repair failed."Does not fail doing repair as Fat32.

Figured I would just try to install Os anyways and booted to install disk. When booted to Os it did list the SD card as an optional drive, but had the exclamation point listed as not being in correct format. Instructs to reformat as GUID. Went to disk util and reformatted and it disapears from select a destination.

My questions are.. am I missing something technical about these cards and formating as GUID?
Why will this mount in Finder and also in the destination screen for install if its formatted as FAT32, but wont show up in either as GUID?
Why does it show disk3s2 similar to windows partitions, even though it was formatted as GUID and renamed?

Not sure if I'm having an actual hardware issue with card, or have to do something to modify this to be useable. Tried this on a newer iMac with same result.
