Sep 8, 2010my MacBook runs like ****. It's constantly hot (CPU is always above 70*C), it can't get through one youtube video with out stuttering and overheating, it can't run my external sound card (Audio 4 DJ) in conjunction with anything else, and it can't play AVI files without freezing and bugging out. It's a 2nd gen Black MacBook with 2ghz processors, 2 gb of ram, and an upgraded WD 320 GB HD. Is this thing about to take a dump on me? Is the motherboard on its way out? Is there any chance of fixing this thing? It seems the only thing my computer is good for theses days is doing light browsing on the internet. (read light browsing = no flash and no html5.)

May 18, 2010I have a youtube video that is a tribute/interview of my grandmother, who unfortunately just passed away. YouTube has stripped the audio because on some parts of the video there is background music. I would really like to be able to watch/download this video with the audio - does anyone know a way to get around this?
fwiw: I don't have the original file, and downloading the video via pwnYouTube results in a silent mp4 file.
Mac Pro :: Video Card Overheating Error In XP Via BootCamp?
Jan 12, 2009I have a Mac pro 2x2.66 with 5GB running 10.5.5. When I first bought my mac one of the things that helped me ditch the PC world was my ability to install bootcamp/parallels and XP so that I could play games when I wanted to. This worked really well at first and I loved every minute of CoD4 (for the PC) but lately (has been at least a year since I have played) when I reboot into XP (via bootcamp) I launch the game and the entire system locks up or the game crashes due to an error from the video card overheating. My first thought was dust that had built up over time but I checked and the inside of the mac is still quite clean. I tried to clean what I could and the holes over the case fan and the video card dont seem to have any dust on them. Also FWIW I upgraded the video card when I bought it to the Radeon X1900.

Apr 16, 2009I just bought a new iMac and it is really quiet. But I don't intend to retire my old G4 desktop. The olny thing that bothers me is the blower. It is always on even if I am not working on the machine. When I put it to sleep the blower goes off.
I have another G4 desktop (slightly older) which is no where near as noisy.

Jun 25, 2012Several years ago I was interested in G5s and I saved this post called "Solutions for dead G5." Yesterday, I acquired a G5 dual proc 1.8 which works fine. I notice your forum is full of complaints re chipset or processor failures as mentioned in JeffDy's post mentioned above.My question is re prevention. JeffDy refers to "a small blower hidden behind the HD fan." I found his original post in your forum but the image links no longer work and I don't yet know my way around the G5 guts to find that fan.
Can you tell me, is this fan a worthy issue for prevention, should I locate it and clean it? After reading so many complaints about this sort of failure, is my XB4011NPQES vulnerable to BGA failures?

Jun 10, 2012Ever since I purchased my Macbook Pro over 3 months ago, watching videos has been very slow. It doesn't freeze, it just takes a really long time to load any video from youtube or any other website.
My internet speed is fine as I have another laptop (Toshiba running on windows vista) and video loading is really quick and don't have to wait for a video to completely load as it is already fast. So is the problem the Macbook or internet connection?
My Toshiba laptop is wirelessly connected to the internet though (Connected using ethernet cable). However, the macbook is wirelessly connected.

Sep 18, 2010When I try to watch any CNN video, nothing plays. WHen I click on the play/pause indicator I get "02:37" in large type across the video area. The same thing happens to any video. It happens in Safari, Firefox, and in IE in virtual Windows through VMWare. THe same thing happened earlier in the year, then it seemed to resolve itself for a few months but now the problem is back. Apr 6, 2012I hear the various sounds involved with Messages in Lion 10.7.3, when sending a msg, receiving, contacts becoming available etc. I am not hearing *any* other audio at all: No sound from Chrome with: Facebook videos, Youtube, Soundcloud or Vimeo. No sound from any media in Safari. No sound from any media in iTunes. No sound when playing files with Quicktime. No sound when increasing/decreasing system volume.I can only hear Messages sounds! Everything was working fine last night, the last thing I was able to hear was an .m4a file that I played through Quicktime. This morning - nothing. Where should I start troubleshooting? I've already restarted a couple of times, will do a full shutdown and restart again.

Mar 14, 2009I had an iBook G4 1Ghz. I rarely had any problems watching internet videos on sites like Hulu or YouTube. I passed the iBook along to a friend when I got a new MacBook, and he has been unable to watch Web videos. They play, but the audio is ahead of the sound. He's tried it on a few different connections, but they all do this in both Safari 4 and Firefox 3. Clearing the browser cache helped a little, but it hasn't gone away.

Jul 14, 2009So whenever i am done using my book, i close it up and leave. when i come back to it the fans are on full blast and my laptop is hot. i open it up and its a black screen and you have no control. i have to hard shut down the macbook and restart it. It also does this when i put it in sleep mode and then leave. anybody have any thoughts.
