I have a 2009 Mac Pro, and was wondering if it would be possible to put a PC 4870 video card in it and only use the 4870 in windows with bootcamp, and use the GT120 in OS X?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy macbook is the new 2008 series with 2 gb of RAM, the Nvidia Geforce 9400m, and Intel processor with 2.4 ghz. I check on srtest.com and I am supposedly able to run games like Crysis very well. Yet, when I launch the new Warhammer: Dawn of War II game, I am at a loss. I can only run the gme on the very lowest settings at the lowest resolution in order to run without lag. Also, for some reason my bootcamp partition says I have only 1.72 gb of RAM. I have a feeling the partition is just not recognizing the power I have.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac pro 2x2.66 with 5GB running 10.5.5. When I first bought my mac one of the things that helped me ditch the PC world was my ability to install bootcamp/parallels and XP so that I could play games when I wanted to. This worked really well at first and I loved every minute of CoD4 (for the PC) but lately (has been at least a year since I have played) when I reboot into XP (via bootcamp) I launch the game and the entire system locks up or the game crashes due to an error from the video card overheating. My first thought was dust that had built up over time but I checked and the inside of the mac is still quite clean. I tried to clean what I could and the holes over the case fan and the video card dont seem to have any dust on them. Also FWIW I upgraded the video card when I bought it to the Radeon X1900.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a new video card for a MacPro 1.1 (Intel 2007) that will handle Steam source engine games decently and also work with bootcamp. I'm OK with BIOS flashing a PC card but I don't want to have to deal with patching files as well to get it to work since its going into a friends Mac and I won't always be around to show him how to patch stuff if he ever reinstalls OS X.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, I got the Polycarbonate Macbook , Parallels 5, and Windows 7 Home Premium. I installed windows on bootcamp and had parallels use the partition for windows and I got it all working, all the drivers on Windows are great, except the wifi. It's not even saying I've got a wireless card installed, it won't recognize that I have one in my Mac. But when I use parallels and when I boot it as a regular Mac, it works great. I've looked around and haven't found an answer to this? Anyone found a solution or could help?

My Mac Pro came with a 7300GT which is barely adequate for anything nowadays. I was wondering is it possible to use a passively cooled ATI Radeon 5450 (DX11 that supports all the high definition video codecs) in my Mac Pro alongside 7300GT? I know it wont be possible to use it while in OSX, but can I run both in my system so when I boot into Windows 7 (majority of the time) I can use the 5450 instead?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an 8 Core Mac Pro with the NVIDIA GeoForce 7300GT video card and I was wondering if I should update the driver? I am running Vista Business 64bit through bootcamp. When you go to nvidia site there is no driver update for mac os but there is for vista 64bit. But I am afraid that if I update the driver for vista it might mess it up when I am in Leoapard?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to update my video card drivers on my 13" MBP. It seems as if I am getting a nv4_disp.dll error on the XP partition of my hard drive when I try to exit BF2. Could anyone suggest good graphics drivers to download? I tried Omega drivers but they said that my graphics card could not be recognized.

2x EDIT: I'm getting this error whether the NVidia drivers are installed or not. Similar error with the Omega drivers. What shall I do? This screen has the Boot Camp NVidia drivers installed, I've tried it with them uninstalled as well. Sorry for repeating myself but I want to get that point across. These are the drivers from the Apple link.
i bought windows 7 for my recently purchased macbook pro so i could play star trek online. i installed both but apparently windows is not recognizing my Nvidia geforce 320, 256 mb graphics card it just shows up in windows as Standerd VGA graphics adaptor. When i run i diagostic on directx it says creating 3d graphics is impossible so when i finally try to run the game it says cannot create 3D3.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan someone recommend me a good controller to use in bootcamp that is known to 100% work w/ bootcamp and all recent games? Looking to spend $20-$30, but I'll spend more if it insures quality. I have a fairly old logitech dual action controller and apparently it is no longer compatible with any new games.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just updated boot camp and when restarting teh entire windows went 8 bit. In the monitor conrol panel the computer recognizes I have an nvidia 8600N video card but when changing the resolution it won't take it. I press apply and nothing, it goes back to 640 x 480 and 256 colors.
I started the computer switching to the previous working system and I get the same result.
Ok so I have a old Mac Performa 640CD/Dos that I am trying to to get up and running again. I had a monitor for it but it fell off the couch and broke. So I thought maybe I can use an adapter with it in order to use PC VGA monitor. Well after getting the first adapter and trying it, no luck, then I tried one that had dip switches on it. Tried 640 x 480, 800 x 600, almost all the dip switch combination with no luck on getting anything on the screen. Could it be that I might have a bad video card and it needs replaced? Or is this particular model not compatible with PC VGA monitors?

Your computer's video card is unable to render the video and controls.
I see here that my Mac Pro (Early 2008) is compatable with:
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600
ATI Radeon HD 4870
It looks like in many cases there's two versions, and the mac version costs about 10x as much on ebay and in stores. Is that accurate, or is one of these models mac and pc compatable, and therefore the laws of supply and demand work in my favour?
(fyi: I just want the cheapest one, I don't do heavy GPU work)
Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....
I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.
I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."
So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?
Maybe I'm just over thinking this, but Apple never posted a KB article about how to upgrade an existing bootcamp partition with the new snow leopard bootcamp 3.0 drivers. I'm assuming if you already have bootcamp 2.1 you boot up in boot camp and then insert the snow leopard disc in order to upgrade the drivers to 3.0 correct? Or do I have to erase my stupid bootcamp partition and reinstall it all over again using the new leopard boot camp assistant in order to get to 3.0?

I was looking at flashing a 4870 but it looks like it's more trouble than it's worth (I see a lot of dual monitor issues, for example, and I require dual monitors).
What card should I get with minimum trouble such that I can use it in Bootcamp/Win7? I'll continue use the x1900xt for OS X. Looking for <$150, something like an ATI 4870 or 5750 (preferably without any additional special cables.

Since I had to jump through all kinds of hoops of the actual apple support page, I eventually turned to the community now, which as ironically a whole lot easier. Anyways, My problem is basically with BootCamp.I'm trying to run the CryEngine 3 SDK on a late 2011 macbook Pro, and the specs including the graphics card should be enough to handle it easily.Yet everytime I try to launch it, it plays for a little while (2 minutes) then comes up with an error along the lines of "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered".
I've checked and I have the latest drivers for the graphics card on the mac installed including the Catalyst Control Centre porgram. It seems like it should work, but it refuses to.I've read up on it a bit and it may be a problem with overheating, since when the mac beging running the CryEngine the fan starts going like crazy, basically at its maximum capacity, so It might be a problem with Over heating.
I've also heard that due to a few compatibility issues with Windows 7, the graphics dont switch properly which leads to this error and can be fixed by entering the windows BIOS and switching the graphics switching from dynamic to fixed, however i'm not sure if I really want to meddle with the BIOS.
I've checked both the CPU and the total RAM when running CryEngine however the RAM only gets to around 50% whilst the CPU barely tops 20%. Also the graphics card being a AMD Radeon HD 6770M is something that should be able to handle it.
