MacBook Pro :: Remaining Battery Reading Not Accurate?

Jul 14, 2010

The remaining battery indicator (top right) is not completely accurate. The measurement (time) constantly varies.

As far as I know a 13" MacBook Pro should have 10 hours battery time. In this case the reading constantly changes from about 8:52 hours then back to 9:12 hours, 9:34, and other readings, etc.

Is this normal?

MacBook Pro :: How Accurate Is Coconut Battery

Sep 26, 2010

I've had my MBP for less than 4 months and have had 54 loadcyles (something I'm trying to reduce, hopefully), and coconutBattery says my current battery capacity is 91%. I'm a bit worried. Is this accurate, or what? I've calibrated my battery about 4 days ago.

MacBook Pro :: To Make Battery Accurate With Its Estimates?

Oct 11, 2009

so ive had this 13"uMBP for a few months now and no way i ever get 7 hours. im not upset because it still outlasts all my friends laptops. My curiosity is that ive been web browsing for about 30 mins now, also iTunes is open but not running, and thats it. I checked my time remaining for the battery and it was 5h30m. 10 mins later it said 3h30m. 5 mins after that it now says 3h59m. What is causing it to jump all around like this? and is there a way to make it more accurate with its estimates?

also. I have calibrated my battery per the directions on apples website, did it about 5 days ago.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Time Remaining Indicator Works Wrong ?

Oct 28, 2010

I am new (sort of) to owning a Mac, I bought my macbook pro a couple days ago, so far I havent used it much for other than surfing the net. My question is regarding the Battery time remaining indicator, first of all it changes alot, so i never truly know how much time I have left. Is this normal? It can say anywhere from 3-6 hours left when I am at 90% battery. Usually at 90% battery it says I have about 4.5 - 5 hour left. I thought I was supposed to get up to ten hours of battery? The percent indicator seems to go down fairly fast like 1% every few minutes. Is this Normal? Should I take my macbook over to the apple store to be checked out?

MacBook Pro :: Retina Is Missing Battery Time Remaining Indicator

Jun 20, 2012

The battery indicator on the top menu bar on my other MBP's gives 3 selectable options for display: Icon Only, Percentage, and Time Remaining. My new MBP retina only has 'Icon' and 'Percentage'. You can still see time remaining by clicking on the battery icon manually.

Applecare said "they must have removed it for that new version of the MBP, you could always try reinstalling the O/S from scratch just to be sure".

Under Energy Saver the only option is to 'show battery status' on the top bar.

Applications :: IStat Menus 3.0 Battery Meter Not Accurate?

Sep 17, 2010

I just upgraded to iStat Menus 3.0, and was trying to use the new Battery meter. I was running on Battery when I installed it, and I was comparing it to the Apple meter to make sure it matched, and the % and time remaining was identical. Then I plugged my MacBook in, and iStat said it had like 3:00 hours remaining to a full charge, and the Apple meter said like 1:48. I let it discharge completely thinking that might help, but its still messed up. Right now iStat says 2:03 remaining, and Apple says 1:05. Both of the percentages are at 77%. Anyone else having this problem, or know how to fix it?

MacBook Air :: "Battery Time Remaining" Going Crazy?

Feb 14, 2009

I have a Rev A 1.6/80.

Just running on battery, the estimated time remaining is normal. About 4:00 with a 97% charge.

But when I have it plugged in, it goes really low. About 20-14 minutes. I know I have an almost full charge and the battery isn't shot or anything because I just used it for about 3 hours yesterday without plugging in. Even with the innacurate estimate it still reports the % correctly.

The iStat widget reports similar numbers, but not exactly the same. 16 on it, as opposed to 13 in the menu bar.

MacBook :: Battery Showing Incorrect Reading / Unable To Start Without Charger

Nov 22, 2009

I've got MacBook Unibody late 2008 and Snow Leopard. I've got an issue, becouse sometimes when I turn on my MB it shows on battery bar 0%, and when I look to the iStat Nano/coconut battery it shows that battery capacity is about 3%, sometimes I cannot turn on my MB, but it was fully charged a few minutes before, only if I connect AC Adapter and it starts also with this Service Battery. But after some restarts everything goes normal. Capacity is 100%, battery charge is same as before this issue (or a bit less, due those restarts etc...

Sorry for this chaotic explaination, but it's really annoying, I do not think that I should buy a new battery, becouse it has 166 cycles, so it is not so much to change battery (I don't think it's nothing, but of course it is not huge no. of cycles). I tried to restart SMC, calibrate - but it does nothing.

MacBook Pro :: How Accurate Is Disk Utility For Verifying S.M.A.R.T. Status?

Sep 14, 2010

I just got a new MacBook Pro today (2.4Ghz i5) and it kept freezing randomly, such as opening safari. I open disk utility, it says that S.M.A.R.T. is verified, when I verified the disk, it said "invalid node structure" and to repair using the Mac OS disk. I booted from the disk, disk utility failed to repair twice, but after the 3rd repair, it said repair was successful, but after a few days, same problem "invalid node structure." I've repaired the disk many times and I always get the same result a few days later, I've also reformat the laptop 3x with same problems reoccurring after a few days.

I read that using disk warrior was best to solve these problems, except I there were mixed results, some people said that it fixed their problems, others said it was just a temporary fix, so I don't wanna pay for a program that may or may not fix my problem.

Last experiment, I popped in the HDD into my sister's MacBook Pro (2.4GHz Intel Core2Duo) and did a clean install. After a few days of use, it starts to slow down, ran Disk Utility, S.M.A.R.T. status is verified, clicked repair disk, and same thing "invalid node structure."

I went to apple, Apple "Genius" said that there was nothing wrong with my laptop and just told me to do a clean install, which I did many times already. They kept it over night and called the next day to say that there was nothing wrong...

Having said this, how accurate is the S.M.A.R.T status? I search google and some people say that "Invalid node structure" is a sign that the HDD is failing.

Any of you guys experienced this problem, where the S.M.A.R.T. status is verified, even though the HDD is dying? I don't have money to experiment and buy another laptop HDD to install just to test this out so can you guys tell me your experience?

MacBook Pro :: How To See Download % And Time Remaining (like Windows)

Jun 28, 2014

I've just got myself a nice new Mac Pro and am really surprised to find that it is more different to Windows than I was expecting.    I feel like a toddler trying to learn a new language to do all the things I am used to doing on Windows.

Quite often I just Google my Q's....or search on YouTube, and usually get the answers quickly.

I can't seem to find a specific answer for this Q though.....

On Windows, whenever you downloaded something, you were given a % telling you how much had been downloaded and how much was left still.  It also gave you the progress in gb / kb.Surely there must be a way of having this info show whenever I download something ?  I really do not want to go to the App Store and start buying things.

Also, I've read that people have it charged for maximum battery life so. If you can charge it, do it or if its around 60% or something it should be charged?

Mac Pro :: How Accurate Is The HP LP3065 Profile?

Feb 14, 2008

Finally got my 8800 Mac Pro today. Not sure how it runs on anything yet as I'm still installing software (decided to play it safe and do everything by 'hand' rather than migration - considering I redid everything on my old computer a month ago when I got Leopard...what's one more time? Plus my old machine wasn't an Intel)

So far I'm loving it. Especially with my HP LP3065. Do have a question, though, on calibration. I looked at "Displays" in System Preferences and was surprised that there was a profile for the HP LP3065 that seems to be newly created (the date is today - 2/14 - at 6am). I'm wondering if that's an accurate calibration or if I should do any tweaking...

For example I'm downloading the Aperture 2 manual now from Apple however Little Snitch says that Safari is downloading it from [URL] or something. Like what the heck?

No other webpage, download or application was using the internet at the time. Is it that Apple uses this address or is it that Little Snitch has gone crazy?

Mac Pro :: GPU Monitor Application Give Accurate Temperature?

Oct 11, 2009

I'm currently using Early 2008 Mac Pro and the ATI HD2600XT which came with it. When I use the ATI utility or GPU temperature monitor apps like GPU-Z on bootcamp (Windows XP SP3), the temperature is about 87C on idle, and goes to like 93C when running benchmark softwares. (I ran the Final Fantasy XI benchmark software). I know this is hot.

Do the GPU temperature monitor apps give accurate temperatures? Or are the temperatures displayed wrong? Because I noticed that the temperature for the CPUs are displayed higher on Boocamp than on Mac OSX.(Used HWMonitor on Bootcamp and Hardware Monitor on Mac OSX). And I have a question for the people who use or have used the Early 2008 Mac Pros and the ATI HD2600XT with it. How are your temperatures?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Display Remaining Black After Wake Up From Sleep

Jun 14, 2012

I have very recently upgraded to Lion on my late 2009 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. When the machine goes to sleep on wake up - instead of going to the log on screen, the display remains black but when I move the mouse the display creates a grey pixel trace wherever the pointer should be. I also end up with the desktop clock in the top right.

To log on, I have to literally "colour in" the area where my profile icon should be which enables me to input my password. Also, on wake up, any applications that I had open like Safari, Word, iTunes etc are all closed and not open in the dock. On a separate matter, when this happens I cant wake my imac up to access my itunes library for home sharing on my ATV3 and 4S.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Preview Remaining Open In Background - Requires Force Quit

Jun 20, 2012

I have this problem on my new MBA (2012) and mac mini (2011), both running the latest update of LION (10.7.4). Basically, if I am using preview, it shows up on my dock no problem and I can close windows/hide/quite no problem. Usually a while later, a copy of Preview ends up showing up in my FORCE QUIT menu (if I happen to be there), but is not visibly open. (see pic).

Odd that it occurs on both. Only things that are non-apple installed on MBA (and mirror with MM) are:

- MS Office 2k11
- Firefox
- ClamXav virus scanner
- Diablo 3
