Mac Pro :: How Do You Get The Rubber Dampeners Thru The Holes

Nov 23, 2010

So I removed my 4th bay's tray and it seems the dampeners are not thru the holes and unless you get them half way thru the holes you cannot slide back the tray because the screws are too high and make contact with the surface.

When you have nothing to screw them into what is the best way of getting the rubber dampeners thru the holes so the screws will sit low enough in the tray to reinsert the tray?

So my final tray #4 has no drive attached but those rubber stopper things aren't easy to get thru the holes. Right now the only way I can put my track is to remove the screws entirely and keep them outside the case. I'd rather them insert into the holes of the sled that's empty but for I need those darn grey rubber things to go thru the holes.

MacBook Pro :: Secure Mbp Using DVI Port Screw Holes?

Aug 23, 2009

I'm wondering if there are any products out there can secure my MacBook Pro by using one or two of the screw holes on either side of the DVI port.

I bought a Kensington MicroSaver keyed lock even though MacBook Pro users said it didn't work. I'm once again confirming that... The Kensington lock port on the MB and MBP are totally useless. There are lots of products of this nature out there for VGA/serial ports, but I have found nothing for DVI.

This is the only product I found that does what I want, but it isn't available for sale anywhere:

Applications :: Using Punch Holes In My Encryption Scheme?

Feb 10, 2010

I have some things I want to keep very safe. It is not pornography (i.e. kiddie porn), nor is it illegally downloaded media files.

Imagine if I had caught a local official doing something in public that was extremely bad, and I wanted to release the pictures anonymously to our local paper and did not want the police to seize my computer and prove it was me. This is not the situation, but it is the type of stuff I want to keep extremely safe.

Hardware :: Unable To Assemble Super-drive And Enclosure / Holes Don't Match Up

Mar 23, 2009

I have just received a Firewire enclosure for a SuperDrive I bought months ago from the same company, Other World Computing. I was told that they would work together, but now that I'm assembling it, I find that the tiny holes on the drive (very near the edge of the drive, and only two on each side of the top, not the many more that the enclosure seems to indicate should be there. In addition, the holes in the drive and the ones in the enclosure don't match up. The enclosure also is very long for the drive, even allowing for room to attach the ribbon cable and other cables inside.

I have now spoken with three different people at OWC, and nobody knows why this is or how to work out the problem, except to offer me another, less desirable enclosure that they assure me will fit the drive. (I didn't mention that the drive is an older model and that they no longer carry it.) Well, I was assured that the one they have already sent me was just fine for my drive, so you can 't blame me for being a bit wary of the assurances for the other enclosure.

The drive fits very snugly in the enclosure and doesn't seem to shift around. If I replaced a metal piece around the front of the drive that I took off to make it fit more flush with the front of the enclosure, it would be an even tighter fit. It wouldn't look as nice, but it could be done.

My question is I whether I can dispense with putting in those screws, which are meant to secure the drive within the case and keep it from shifting around. (The screws meant to attach the back panel of the enclosure, the one with the internal cables, and the holes in the enclosure will fit together fine, because they are both part of the same thing.)

I would really love to move on with this and not try out anything elselet alone a less good driveif I can.I wonder what you think.I have only a short while before I must make a decision, and I'm leaving for a visit to part of my family in about two weeks. Any input is very welcome.

MacBook Pro :: Outer Rubber Insulation For The Power Supply Cord?

Oct 30, 2009

I recently got a new macbook pro (thanks to Apple's great customer care/Customer Replacement Unit policy), and two days later, it got stuck under a moving chair, which peeled off the outer rubber insulation for the power supply cord. And a beautiful thing happened I used to notice that the magsafe power adapter would slip out when i was moving my macbook around from place to place a little bit too easily. Then I put 1 1/2 inches of electric tape about a centimeter away from the actual magsafe-macbook port, and the addition added just a little bit of resilience because of some sort of physics i can't explain. so if you want your magsafe to be a little bit stronger, but still pull out if you move it too hard, just add an inch of electrical tape to the end. works like a charm!

MacBook :: Rubber Bottom (unibody - Late 2009 Model) Coming Off

May 26, 2010

The rubber bottom of my MacBook (unibody, late 2009 model) is coming off. Should I take off all the screws and try to reposition it? Also, it is under the one year warranty but not under the 90 day Apple tech support. Will Best Buy fix it for me?
