Mac Pro :: Blu Ray Drive Unresponsive With Disc - Need Proper Drivers

Jun 26, 2010

Recently purchased a Samsung DVDWBD SH-B083L Blu Ray Optical Drive for my Mac Pro, second bay. I have the 2.26 Nahalem Mac, 8-Core. This drive is unresponsive with Blu Ray discs. It plays regular DVD fine, but nothing with Blu Ray. I believe I need the proper drivers but not sure. Does the drive need formatted? How do you do this? After searching the web, I can't seem to find Mac drivers for this drive. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, maybe they are not there.

Windows On Mac :: Need Proper Drivers For Vista Enterprise RTM

Nov 18, 2006

I have a few issues with device support I thought I ping this community about:

1) Wireless Adapater doesn't show up in Device Manager (and doesn't work of course)
2) iSight, Network Controller and Performance counters all have (i) issues in Device Manager (update driver online doesn't work)
3) Resolution maxes out at 1280x800 (me thinks this is because it thinks the monitor is a generic PnP monitor)

Any ideas on where to get the proper drivers? I did the bootcamp stuff using the latest and greatest with the new MacOS.

OS X :: Proper Default Permissions/ Ownership For Secondary Drive?

Oct 28, 2009

I recently bought I new primary sata drive for a MacPro and loaded Leopard on it while keeping a 2ndary internal sata drive ... which included data ... intact.

Now under Leopard, under permissions for the 2ndary internal sata drive, it sees an "unknown" account (which is the previous Tiger owner) and it doesn't allow any writing/ deleting on the 2ndary drive.

I know how to change the permissions and ownership but don't know exactly what Leopard default ownership and permissions I should assign to the 2ndary drive.

The new Home acct name, System, Admin, Everyone etc.
Usually there is a cascading list of 2 or 3 but I can't remember what
they should be.

How can I install the drivers to finish installation? Should I just burn a drivers CD and run it in windows instead of using the OSX disc?

Windows On Mac :: Does OS X Install Disc Have 64 Bit Drivers?

Apr 14, 2009

Today is the day I get my new 09 Quad - very exciting! I have a copy of Vista Business 64bit, which I want to run because of the extra ram I'll have in that beast of a thing. Up until now I've just been using the other comps in my sig, and from what I've heard it's hard to get 64bit windows working in Boot Camp. But are there 64 bit drivers on the Leopard install disc to make this a bit more pain free?

Windows On Mac :: OS X 10.6 Drivers From Upgrade Disc Viable?

Nov 1, 2010

I've been trying on and off for the past two years to install Windows on my Mid-Late 2008 MBP (C2D,10.5.8). The first time I tried it, I partitioned fine, got XP installed and went to install drivers from my OSX disc, but there were some errors and I couldn't get the trackpad/other essential drivers installed, even when I downloaded the drivers direct and put them on via USB or from the Mac partition. So I tried again a few months after having deleted the partition, but this time I couldn't partition it properly.

I just purchased the SL upgrade disc and I'm now thinking of putting Windows 7 on this. This prompts a few questions that I hope you guys can answer.
1. I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but just to check, will 64-bit Windows 7 work on my computer?
2. Will the drivers included on the 10.6 upgrade disc be sufficient to install Windows, or will I need my original install disc (which would be a pain to get)?
3. I'm getting Windows 7 through one of my school's programs, and it'll be an .iso. Obviously if I just burn this to a disc it should suffice, but will it cause any problems with the installation via bootcamp? As far as I know, unless my school's been doing some shady business it's legitimate.me!

Windows On Mac :: No Drivers - XP Not Recognizing OSX Install Disc

Dec 13, 2010

So I installed xp via bootcamp just fine. One problem; no drivers! I inserted the OSX install DVD in, xp did not recognize it. Under 'properties' it said it was a blank cd with 0 megabytes on it and 0 megabytes of storage. If I opened the DVD there was nothing there. I did get this CD from someone else, it is the 'official' OSX Snow Leopard DVD copied onto another cd, but theoretically everything is there. I am running a non unibody macbook pro 15", might I be able to download these drivers elsewhere?

Windows On Mac :: OS X Disc Missed Out Graphic Drivers?

Aug 8, 2009

I've installed Windows XP with Service Pack 2 a couple days ago - figured out the drivers stuff and finally the OS X disc ran flawlessly, installed most of the drivers for internet, audio and isight, whatever. I thought it's done so I installed GTA: Vice City on my Windows XP - when I tried launching the game, it gave me an error stating 'Couldn't find enough video memory'.

So I went to Start>Run and typed in dxdiag which opens the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. I went to 'Display' and found out that the category under 'Device' is completely blank with DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D Acceleration stating 'Not Available'. Am I missing out the graphic driver or something? Anyone here explains it and provide a link where to install these required drivers. By the way, I've tried installing the driver off NVIDIA's site but still it turns out funny.
Using iMac 10.5.6 - 2.66 GHz - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.

PowerPC :: Will All Drivers Included On Standard 10.4 Install Disc?

Sep 29, 2007

I just got a powerbook 667Mhz DVI yesterday. It has 10.3 on it with a bunch of apps and stuff pre-installed. But when I launch some of the apps, it freezes. So I want to just get 10.4 and install it and start fresh. But do I need a special powerbook install disc, or can I just go out and buy the newest standard OSX version, which will include all the drivers that I would need for it?

MacBook :: OS X Yosemite (10.4.11) Unresponsive CD/ DVD Drive

Dec 12, 2014

My cd/dvd drive has become unresponsive.

I try to insert a photo cd and it is not accepted. I then thought I might try to burn a disc from iTunes to see if it might "wake up" the drive. No luck.

I have a mac book pro running yosemite. As best I can tell, the last time I used the drive was about 6 months ago, prior to the upgrade to yosemite.  Is this a sign of a software problem or a hardware problem?

OS X :: MBP Disc Drive Won't Recognize Snow Leopard Disc?

Aug 29, 2009

I have a 2007 Intel MBP, running Leopard. I purchased the family version of Snow Leopard. When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).

OS X Mavericks :: Finder Window Unresponsive After Search On External Drive?

Jun 5, 2014

I have an external HD full of music and whenever I want to play one, I just search for it in finder and drag&drop it to iTunes. However, I'm having issues with it on my new MacBook Air. Whenever I search the drive for files, they appear normally, but I can't drag them! Highlighing works OK, so does double-clicking or cmd+O, but I can't move them to a playlist. It's the same with any files, not just .mp3s - they cannot be dragged out of the finder window. Scrolling is also wonky, but moving between files using arrows works fine.

note that this works perfectly fine when searching the computer's HD.

Is this a glitch of some sort, or is the computer preventing me from doing it for some reason? I'm running 10.9.3 with all the updates; the HD is a 1TB Transcend, ExFAT formatted.

Intel Mac :: 2009 20" Slow/Unresponsive Hard Drive Access

Mar 11, 2012

I stopped by a friends house to try and help them with an early 2009 20" iMac that started stalling on startup (sometimes before their login screen, and sometimes after).  The computer didn't exhibit this behaviour at all, then overnight, it behaved as stated and never once allowed them to get far enough to launch an application or open the Finder.

When I arrived, rebooted and held down Command + Option + P + R, but it had no effect on the problem.   I then booted off the original OSX discs and ran Disk Utility.  At first it seemed slow to complete, but before long (a few minutes) the Verify Disk finished without any errors.  Next, I attempted "Repair Disk Permissions" and noticed that this was taking a very long time, +10 minutes.  That said, it did complete without any problems, albiet slowly.

Unfortunately, this did not allow me to login, and I never made it to the login screen.  Being a close friend, I offered to take the computer home and try to copy as much data as I could through Target Disk Mode over Firewire.

My first attempt to copy her Home directory got 25% of the way through the roughly 4 GB of data, then stopped.  I rebooted and tried again, with even less success than before (I could barely access Folders let alone copy after the reboot).  I attempted to recreate the "successful" attempt by unplugging the computer and letting it sit for a few hours.  Sure enough, I was able to copy data from the Target Disk Mode mounted drive, but after about 1 GB of copying the access to the hard slowed to a crawl (a few kilobytes per minute) then halted completely.

I've repeated the above process to slowly but surely copy the entire 4 GB of home directory data, and am about to call it quits after salvaging what was important to her.

Question:  Is this the sign of a failing hard drive close to the end of its life, or is this something potentially more serious with the logic board?  I've only come across a stubborn drive like this with an external drive that was close to failure, and assume this is the case.

OS X :: Disc Could Not Be Used Because The Disc Drive Is Not Supported?

Apr 28, 2009

I am trying to burn a DVD of files I want to back up from my computer, and it gives me this error when I try to burn a DVD from the folder that my files are in. Finder gives no mention that there is a DVD in the DVD-drive, but it does pop-up with a message recognizing that a DVD was inserted initially. My drive has been working fine in the past, so this is something that has just recently happened to my computer. Does anyone have any ideas about this? My computer specifications are in my signature below and I'm running leopard 10.5.6.

The specific error message that I get is this "the disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported." I did a google of this, but the results turned up stuff relating to 10.3 and 10.4, neither of which being relevant to my situation

Mac Pro :: Unable To Eject Cd Drive / Machine Goes To Sleep With Disc In The Drive

Nov 11, 2009

I've got a PowerPC G5 running 10.4. After four years of dedicated service, my Superdrive gave out, so I bought a Sony drive (SONY DVD RW DRU-842A in profiler) to replace it. Here's the trouble:

Any time the machine goes to sleep with a disc in the drive, it won't eject when I wake it up. I have to restart, then eject. Other than that, the drive works beautifully. If this question has been answered elsewhere, please redirect me there, sorry for the repost.

Speaking of sleep, when I put the machine to sleep through the menu it goes fully to sleep (no fan/other noise). But when it goes to sleep on its own, I can still hear the machine churning away. Any ideas? My roomate has a newer Mac Pro that doesn't do this.

OS X :: Looking For Drivers For USB External Drive

I've just bought a device that allows you to connect external drives to a USB port, but I can't access the driver as it comes in a Classic installer, which obviously won't run in OS X. If anyone has the following files.

/System Folder/Extensions/Gene USB ATA Driver
/System Folder/Extensions/Gene USB ATA Shim

Would you be able to email them to me please? Or alternatively if I sent you the installer could you extract it in the Classic environment and send me the contents? All this is assuming these extensions will work in OS X.
