My Mail app will not open, and now when I need to update my mac, it won't because it says the mail app "cancelled restart". Mail app will not open nor close. When I click on "Mail" at the top bar, the "quit" option is in light grey (not clickable). Mail is still accessable on my phone. Is there a way to delte the app all together (with out having to take it in) and re download.

I need to figure out how to shut down my computer as it says it is unable to do so as a result of the mail app.

Mail is running in the background, but it won't quit or open. I need to reboot (i.e. hold down start for 10 seconds) to restart. Other applications are also very slow to respond during this, incl. Safari. I'm on a Late 2007 Macbook running 10.6.2, which I updated yesterday.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a regular update to my MacBook, it tells me I need to quit Mail before I can do it. So I close it and quit it but the little dot that says its still there won't go. I keep telling it to quit which it won't and the computer won't shut down because mail won't let it.
Also I can even open Mail now and it won't go in to its normal sleep mode. What do I do?
Since installing Filemaker Server 12 on our Lion Server 10.7.3, the Webmail is no longer working. I know with previous installations of Filemaker Server I have been asked whether I wanted to keep the system version of PHP or install PHP which comes with Filemaker Server, but I don't recall being prompted about it on this occasion. Previously I had always opted to retain the system PHP.

And from the WAN I get just a screen saying webmail is turned off and that I can turn it on by using the Server app on the server (It is already checked in the server app).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use an external DNS that includes MX and mail entries and A records that point to a static IP provided by my ISP, stored in my router, that in turn accesses services on my lion server via port forwarding. The DNS service on my lion server was turned on but I turned it off and I'm not sure I've noticed any difference - I've got issues either way. Do I need it for any mail server related reason?

I need to reinstall my server becouse it got some issues. The problem is there is a active apple mail server on it. And we need to migrate all the mails and accounts to a new 10.7 installed mac. But since there is problems with the settings in the old one (deep down somewhere), we dont want to clone the whole system, just move the mail database and user accounts.
So I can export the OD directory to the new system. That should take care of the accounts. But does the mail db follow the export? Can I just copy the db files to the new system or will they not work with the new accounts?

My Mail program is constantly quitting. I can not figure out a pattern. Also, it is not downloading all my messages. I will have messages on my iPad and iPhone that do not download in Mail, and yes, I have checked the Junk file. They are not there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have this problem on my new MBA (2012) and mac mini (2011), both running the latest update of LION (10.7.4). Basically, if I am using preview, it shows up on my dock no problem and I can close windows/hide/quite no problem. Usually a while later, a copy of Preview ends up showing up in my FORCE QUIT menu (if I happen to be there), but is not visibly open. (see pic).
Odd that it occurs on both. Only things that are non-apple installed on MBA (and mirror with MM) are:
- MS Office 2k11
- Firefox
- ClamXav virus scanner
- Diablo 3

Every time I want to shut down my late 2011 MacBook Pro, Mac Mail cancels the shut down & I have to force quit mail. I was having this problem on my old 2008 MacBook before I upgraded to the Pro (but it only started after I upgraded to Lion OSX). So what's wrong w/ Mac Mail? And is there some setting I can change? This is an annoying time suck.

For some time now mail.app takes over 3 minutes to quit. Whenever I try to shut down my iMac the shutdown is aborted because mail.app has not closed so I have to wait until mail.app closes and then shut down.

Anyone have any tips, tools, guidance or resources for migrating email from an existing Mail Server to a Mac Mini with Lion. The environment is a relatively small office / business with a few users. The Mac Mini has more than enough features and resources to handle the clients needs. However, they need (want) to have all their existing email moved to the Mac Mini?

Suddenly Mail won't send or receive. When I look in Preferences>accounts the mail server setting is empty. If I set up a new account and manually enter 'url...' it is removed when I hit the button to save the account?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup test server with following services:
DHCP
DNS
Open Directory
Profile Manager
Software Update
But not having much of success. I have installed 10.7.3 on virtual machine (Using Fusion 4) on Mac Pro and given a 4 GB of RAM. This machine is running in its own bubble, it has no communication even with host. So I have configured DHCP and DNS services which seems to be working fine (I have confirmed with another client which can get IP and DNS server address from this server).
Now whenever I have tried to run OD setup using both tools (Server App and Admin Tool), it takes forever to configure (more than 1 hour) and then it fails with error saying "check your network settings". I have checked and machine has proper IP address (tried both DHCP and Static) and also used "lookup" utility to resolve the DNS address both ways (forward and reverse).
After a reinstall I cant config Open Directory Master.

1) In an environement that contains two directory servers (one master, one replica), how does a client find the replica in the event that the master goes offline?
2) Is there any command to issue from the client side that will return all available directory servers in the domain?
I'm usuing a new mac mini with lion server as a file sharing server (smb) with multiple machines with both W7 and XP. My problem is accessing SolidWorks files from the PC. I can drag the files to the desktop and then they will open but if I try to open them from SolidWorks it doesn't work. It looks like other are having this problem with SolidWorks and office. It also looks like in the last update (10.7.3) they might have fixed the issues with office but I can't find anything about SolidWorks issues being solved. I didn't have this problem before when I was using an older mini server with snow leopard but ever since I have made the switch to a new machine with lion server I've had this problem.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have my email set up on my mac and iphone. both are with custom servers.
when i delete a message on my mac mail it doesnt delete in the webmail. BUT when i delete a message from my iphone it does delete from the webmail and then from mac mail.
why mac mail seems to have such a lack of outgoing communication with the server?
When using Mail (and on iPad and iPhone) , mail is not really getting deleted.I can check it on one device and delete it but it always continues to show up on the other devices until I delete it on that device.I end up having to delete everything 3 times. (yes, they are all set to delete from server) This is POP on both Comcast.net and local ISP.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs I am working on my mail server I would like to ensure that I have some form of back system to prevent me from looosing e-mail messages in the future, specially those that are business related. Once in a while we experience a power outage and I would hate to loose an important business e-mail sent to us at a time when the mail server is down.
1. Is there a way to have/use a remote secondary mail server so that in case an e-mail is sent but can't be delivery to our mail server, it is then re-routed to this secondary mail server so that it isn't lost. In this case how should this be set-up both on the server in OS X 1.6.8 and on the outside?
2. I plan to set up an account with Google or another e-mai service provider but would like my e-mail to use my own domain name instead. How simple would this be to set UP? Will Google allow the creation of e-mail accounts with the use of domain names other than its own?
I'm trying to correct a problem with my wife's iCloud email account. I cannot change the 'Incoming Mail Server' name in the 'Account Information panel. If I delete the account and start a new one, I can enter the correct name ... "imap.mail.me.com". However, once I click on create, the Incoming Mail Server name reverts to 'mail.example.com.

I couldn't find a "Mail-specific" forum, so will post here for help. I’m running an older version of Mail (2.1.3) on a PPC G4 MacMini with OS 10.4.11. I have two IMAP accounts feeding into Mail, one my Apple iCloud account, and the other my work Exchange account. All seems to be working fine, but I have a question about the outgoing mail server settings. For iCloud, the outgoing mail server seems to have been automatically set as “smtp.me.com” and it uses Server Port 587 with SSL and Password authentication. For my work Exchange account, after lots of trial and error, it uses Server Port 25. Why does one use 587 and the other 25 as a Server Port? Is this OK from a security standpoint? I really have no understanding whatsoever of this stuff.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm getting ready to migrate our company server to a new server box. I'm doing a complete clean install, and migrating specific information over (we had some corruptions from the initial installation Lion Server). All our users are in LDAP, not the Local directory, and I can't seem to figure out (and don't have the ability to test) if using the Ser Admin app's Archive feature of Open Directory, will include all LDAP information. My understanding is that if I create an archive and restore to it, then all of my users and there information will be put back like nothing happen, but can't get any clarification on it.
