I am trying to setup a simple, memorable keyboard shortcut for switching between tabs (a useful feature that I wish Safari made easier). I wanted to do option+arrow key. So I sent to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts and created the shortcut.
The new shortcut shows up in Safari when I drop down the Window menu, but the shortcut doesn't actually work. When I hit option+L or R arrow key, the window does not switch to the next or previous tab. I even went back to Keyboard Shorcuts in System Preferences and created another "All Applications" shortcut with the same command. It still doesn't work.

I have my Mini hooked up through a usb/minidisplayport to HDMI adapter. On my keyboard when I push mute or volume up or down, the computer shows the mute/vol up/vol down icon on the screen when I push it and it makes the volume sound, but it does not actually mute the tv or make the volume go up or down. Only the actual TV controls will make it work.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently obtained a Mini which I've connected to my TV for watching movies/etc. I don't have a keyboard or mouse on the Mini.I ripped a disc the other night (via a remote connection) and realized that I don't know how to eject the disc from the Mini without a keyboard, mouse, or remote connection from my MBP. I suppose there is probably some way to script MTR and then execute a disktool afterwards but what if I'm just watching a disc and want to eject it?

Nothing like this posted before. Problem: USB Keyboard no longer working. Shortly after powering on I am presented with the Bluetooth Set Assistant and "Bluetooth Keyboard Setup" as my directive, even though there are no bluetooth keyboards in the house.Â
OS X V 10.6.8Â I've tried many things: Power off, wait 10, 20, 30 seconds, power on.
Remove all USB connections then power off and on.Move USB connection from Hub to Mini.Â
Nothing working. Checked in System Profiler, USB Hub is listed along with the USB/Bluetooth Mouse, but nothing about USB KeyboardÂ
It is the standard Apple Keynboard with no functionality at the moment. Does anyone have any ideas before I get a new keyboard? New Mini? Â

A friend has bought a Mac mini server by mistake (yes really, he thought he was getting a standard mini) for HTPC use. He's hit an immediate setup problem, because it's not recognizing the keyboard from his G4 that he wanted to use while he waits to get a wireless keyboard. Is there any reason why it wouldn't recognize the G4 keyboard? Could it be in any way related to the fact that he's running the server version of OSX rather than the client?

I will either control it remotely or use the remote control for Front Row.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy husband gave me a Mac Mini for my birthday. So far so good but it is a little frustrating learning a new operating system after working with MS Windows since the beginning.
I'm using my Dell flat screen monitor and keyboard and my Microsoft wireless mouse. With MS windows I used the keypad on the right side of the keyboard for the arrows/pgup/pgdn/home, etc. to move around the screen and did not use the number functions (I turned number lock off). With my Mac Mini it only gives me the numbers and the number lock OFF does not work.
Question: how can I turn the number lock off so I can use the arrows/pgup/pgdn/home, etc. on the keypad?
I've ordered a Mac Mini and a Logitech Dinovo Mini bluetooth keyboard for a home theater setup. I've only ever owned laptops/Macbooks and have no USB keyboards. How do I do the initial setup between the Dinovo and the Mini without any USB keyboard? Can I use my Macbook Pro keyboard in some way?

i'm using a mac mini and also another Windows PC tower. whenever i want to switch between them i need to re-plug in my headphones/keyboard/mouse/display and this is getting annoying. i've been using a usb hub for the mouse and keyboard so it's not as difficult to setup. is there anything out there that'll allow me to switch between them more easily? I'm finally experiencing the first official problem with my MacBook Pro of 2.5 years. The Finder shows too many Places! Like it has double of everything: 2 Desktops, Applications, Documents, Movies, etc. There's a screen shot in here as an attachment if it helps.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI opened Finder and found a folder titled untitled DVD under the "Places" arrow. When I click on it it does nothing. Nothing appears on the right, nothing. Is it there because an application created it and the app needs it or do I have a glitch and it's going to be a pain to get rid of it if it's not needed? I have installed Toast 10 a few days ago.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I'm sharing a PC keyboard between my mini and my PC, and I have my mini plugged into my TV and a computer display. When I use the display I need to have mirroring turned on and when I'm using the TV I turn it off so it goes back to the TV resolution.
Is there a shortcut or an app that I can use to toggle the modes from the keyboard rather than what I'm doing at the moment, which is jumping on my ipad and VNCing in so I can turn the mirroring on? I'd seen cmd-F1 mentioned, but it doesn't do anything for me.

I'm using a Dynex USB keyboard with the newest version of the Mac Mini (as of May 2012) and if the keyboard is already plugged in when the Mini is powered on, it's not recognized. If I unpug it after the Mini has been powered on and plug it back in, it starts to work. How do I fix this? Note that I am also using a Logitech USB mouse and it works properly.

I have a Mac Mini 2006 with Core Duo 1.66Ghz and an 80GB HDD. I use this computer as a Media Centre PC (not really nesecarry information). The 80GB hard drive has died in this machine. I know this because I took the drive out, formatted it, reinstalled it in the mini and attempted to install snow leopard from a boot disk. It gets to about 60% and then throws an error - clearly the drive is about to die. Â
In my wisdom, I opened the Mini up and replaced the hard drive with a drive from an old (but dead) windows laptop. When I did so and rebooted, I connected a USB keyboard and held down the option key on boot to boot into startup screen (to select the the boot disk I had made). The SL boot disk on a USB key which is recognised when I boot it on another mac. The mini seems not to recognise the keyboard input when holding down the option key. The mac booted straight into Windows which was on the new drive. It booted into the windows "windows did not boot correctly last time, do you want to start up in startup mode?) screen. The keyboard inputs were also not recognized on this screen.Â
I thought that there may have been an error because windows was on the drive, so I scrubbed the drive and re-installed it as a completely blank drive in the Mini. Again attempted to get to the startup screen and again the same problem. Only this time I am getting a flashing folder with a question mark (meaning the mini cannot detect any bootable drive presumably). The USB stick is flashing, but to me the Mini cannot recognize the keyboard input from the connected keyboard. Could the USB ports have somehow been damaged? Also through this process, I have reset the P-RAM on the mini as well. Â
It seems like macmall and other places where I would typically buy a new mac are just not budging on prices like the used to. Is anyone finding anywhere that will actually deal with you, especially if you want to buy multiple computers?

I burnt a DVD this morning - two actually as the first copy had a 'verification' error. When I was finished, I dragged the burn folder (folder icon with the radioactive symbol on it) from the desktop to the trash. Later in the day, I emptied the trash.Same as I do about once a week. Despite emptying the trash and restarting the computer, the folder still shows up in the list of places in the left column of an open finder window.
The folder is not on my desktop and is not in my trash, just in the list of places. When I try to click on the folder in the list, I get a message "The Volume for ..... cannot be found". In the past, dragging the folder from the desktop to the trash, emptying the trash and then restarting has always removed it from the list of places (and I believe similarly when I have software updates via .dmg files). So the questions are: (1) how do I get rid of it now and (2) what could have caused it to happen.
I'm also not sure right now if it shows up under devices or places, but yeah. My Windows XP laptop does automatically show up in finder when its connected to the internet, my desktop windows 7 PC however, does not. I can connect to it manually through cmd + k and the IP. All 3 things, PC, Laptop and Macbook are on the same network, but only with the Laptop it works like that, not with the PC. Is it maybe, because on the Windows 7 machine I need to use my username to connect? Is there no way to make it show up automatically in the Finder sidebar?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I select a picture to save, it brings up the 'save' box, but takes a short time to allow me to do anything while it compiles a list of files under the 'places' tab on the left. I wouldn't normally mind this, but it takes about 30 seconds or so, and as far as I can see (through searching in the finder), all of these files were deleted a long time ago. Is there any way I can clear this list, or if they are still on my Macbook, how can I find them!

Knowing nothing about how camera Geo-tagging works my question is if I buy a camera with a GPS built in how do I know iPhoto will read the location data. I was looking at the P6000 from Nikon but I have no clue if iPhoto will understand the lat/long data in the file. I called Apple and asked if they had a supported camera list and the two people I spoke to did not know what camera(other then the iPhone) were supported. Is the lat/long data from the iPhone pictures stored in the EXIF data or stored in some other way? Is the Geo-tagging of digital images by cameras a standard format?
