OS X V10.7 Lion :: Keyboard Input Flag Changed After 10.7.4?
May 13, 2012
After updating from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4, the flag icon for the keyboard input seems to have changed. For every flag, the color seems to have changed a bit, and there is a little black border around it.Here's how it used to look:[url]Â

how to change the image of the flag (not the language) on the menu? The correct question would be who knows where the image file of the flag is in the system folder.

I have a really annoying problem with my macbook pro. Often (maybe 40-50% of the times) when i click some text field (on a webpage in Chrome or Safari, or in Finder's search field - actually any text field on my mac) and start to write something, nothing happens. Then if i use my trackpad and CLICK on the text field, all of the letters which i wrote, suddenly appears. The same thing happens with scrolling (in Apple's Preview app, browsers, finder etc.). Sometimes when i try to scroll, nothing happens. If i then click anywhere inside the window, it scrolls. Same thing happens with gestures if i use Preview to view a pdf in fullscreen. If i use 3 fingers swipe to browse to another page, nothing happens. If i click anywhere it immediately go to the other page. Is this software or hardware related? I'm thinking software, unless it has something to do with my trackpad. It's a 13" Macbook Pro (2.3 i5)Â

Fairly often I'll change focus to a different app by pointing at it and tapping on the trackpad, or command-tabbing to it, the title bar will change to show the app I selected is now active, and I'll start typing...and the typing goes to the previously active app. Say, for example, I'm looking for something in a finder window, then command-tab to firefox, then command-w to close a tab. Instread of the tab closing the finder window closes. Yet, firefox is the active app. It's not a matter of slowness in the interface, either, I can be looking at firefox, see the title bar is active and the traffic lights in the upper left are lit, hit command-w, and something else on my screen disappears. Happens several times per day. I get characters intended for the search field of iTunes instead going to a cell in Excel all the time, or command-h hiding the wrong app, or control-tab doing who knows what rather than changing tabs in firefox, or....Â
This has been happening since about the time I got a magic trackpad in September 2010 (if I recall), but I can't imagine it's a problem with the trackpad since it happens when I change apps with command-tab, too.

Since installing Yosemite I'm seeing a random issue where, after waking my Macbook from sleep, keyboard input is not possible. I can move the mouse using the trackpad, and applications all appear to be running as normal. I can quit applications from the dock also using the trackpad. When trying to type anything I get the 'bong' sound as if input is blocked. The only fix I've been able to find is either to ssh in from another machine and force a restart, or to force a power off using the power button.Â
I've tried searching the console logs and can't find anything relevant happening at the point this fails. I've also considered that it could be any number of applications misbehaving, but having quit everything running that is visible in the dock, keyboard input still isn't possible.Â

Is anybody know if there is a way to switch to a particular "input source" (keyboard) with a command line? (or with Apple Script).
Not switch to the next or the previous, but to a specific one. Like switch to "Canadian French" or "Us English".

I currently have 4 input sources on my mac (English, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish).Â
I use the keyboard shortcuts Command+Space and Command+Shift+Space, and I also have it set to automatically switch input sources as I switch to a document, but for some reason, it's just not working out very well for me. I feel like I'm always typing in the wrong language - particularly if I have tabs open in Safari with different languages, or something like Facebook chat which is in the same window, but may require all 4 languages.Â
I'm wondering if there is any way to set language-specific shortcuts, for example Control+Command+E -> English, or Control+Command+H -> Hebrew.
I looked in the menus of BetterTouchTool but could find nothing...
Do I need to make some kind of script or app to do this?

I have an Intel Mac mini (purchased in 2005 or 2006) with a fresh install of OS X Leopard on it. I recently changed the Startup Disk in the OS X system preferences to be the CD/DVD drive, and everything has gone downhill since there.
I inserted a CD and attempted to boot from it right after changing this setting. I noticed the CD drive spun up the disk, but after waiting several seconds a black screen appeared, saying "No bootable device — insert boot disk and press any key".
There were two problems here: first, the CD never ejected from the computer, and second, there was no response to any key press.
After restarting and shutting down a few times I got the Mac to spit out the CD somehow. I restarted, inserted the same OS X Leopard disk used to install the operating system earlier that day, and got the same "No bootable device" error.

I changed my Mac to log in with my iCloud password, which I also recently changed. This is when things went... crazy.Â
• Upon reboot, my Keychain password will not work. No password I give Keychain will work.Â
• Safari just sits there with the beachball. Force-quit shows Safari as "Not Responding."Â
• Launchpad will not accept keyboard inputÂ
I've repaired the drive and preferences. No change.
For what it's worth, another account on the same machine does NOT exhibit these issues.Â

Just partitioned 150gb for bootcamp on my 1TB HDD. I installed XP Media Center OEM without a problem at all. I then put the snow leopard disk in and it autoexec'd and then looked like it was installing stuff. Then it went to screensaver and would not respond to keyboard or mouse input.

I am trying to setup a simple, memorable keyboard shortcut for switching between tabs (a useful feature that I wish Safari made easier). I wanted to do option+arrow key. So I sent to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts and created the shortcut.
The new shortcut shows up in Safari when I drop down the Window menu, but the shortcut doesn't actually work. When I hit option+L or R arrow key, the window does not switch to the next or previous tab. I even went back to Keyboard Shorcuts in System Preferences and created another "All Applications" shortcut with the same command. It still doesn't work.

I am using MacBook Air with OSX Lion. I need to input Chinese characters using the track pad and I have set it up in the Preference > Language.Â
I called out Pages, started the track pad inputing area. I write on the track pad, it can display the stroke I write on the pad and suggested the characters. Then I choose the charater for input. However, nothing was input to the pages. The curser did not move. If I input using the keyboard, it is OK to input what I type. It just did not respond to the track pad.Â

I use English, Korean and Google Japanese. I used to use Windows with the same set of languages and it was even more difficult than in OS X, because each IME may have multiple languages (for example, Korean IME has both Korean and English mode). Now in OS X it is better than Windows because each IME has only single language, but still there are some troubles.Â
I use long command + shift. It shows the list in the middle of the screen, but the order is change depending on the current IME. And it only has text, no flag icon, so it is difficult to get the IME I want without carefully watching the screen.Â
It looks like OS X does not support assinging a shortcut for each langauge. For example, if I could assign F1 for English, F2 for Korean and F3 for Japanese it would be much easier. Or if only the popup language screen had flag icons...Â
Is there any third-party app that helps switching between multiple IMEs?

I would like to find a way or an app that would allow me to change the input AND output sound device with one click. I realize you can to ALT-Sound icon, but you have to individually choose the input and output.Â
The idea is this:Â when I switch to a USB headphone with mic, and would always want both the input and output to be the headset.Â

Two emails in my mailbox have two exclamation points (!!) in the flagged column. I was unable to find what this meant in the help doc or on google. I was wondering if someone on here might know what this means. The two emails were sent via forms on my websites so I imagine maybe that has something to do with it? Anyway, any insight on these crazy exclamation points.

I have one particular application I use that requirems me to temporarily switch my audio input and output to different sources. Once I've used the app., I switch them back to their previous state.Â
I use Soundsource which gives me quick menu-bar access to the inputs/outputs but I still have to set them indiviudally. I was hoping there might be a way to have one or more 'sound sets' which have different combinations of inputs and outputs and then just switch between the sets.Â
In the absence of any such app. (or is there one?) does anyone know how I could write an Applescript to do this?Â

I have an acoustic guitar, attached to my Mac Mini (Lion 10.7.3) via a guitar pickup by a jack to audio input, with output to external speakers. System prefs are 'Audio line in port' and 'headphone port' - the only choices - but it doesn't even 'see' the input - there's no response from the input volume bit. I can play itunes, dvds, cds through the external speakers, but not hear anything attached via the audio input. I tried through garageband, and set the audio according to instructions, but even with 'hear playing while recording' set, I can't hear it.Â
I had been able to hear the guitar through the speakers before I (unfortunately!) had to reinstall Lion. This may be part of the problem: I forgot (yes, I know - daft!) to install Snow Leopard first. However, I do have it on another partition, which seems to be sufficient as in all other respects Lion so far is working fine.

Suddenly Finder keeps asking me to input my password whenever I delete a file to the trash. Emptying the trash is fine, though.I thought maybe I had clicked an option in Onyx that caused this, but having looked several times, I can't see anything in Onyx that would cause this. I've tried repairing disk permissions using Disk Utility, with no effect.

I use a NAS for backups and external storage. At some time in the past week, my backup operations stopped working, and I think I have tracked down the source of the problem. Somehow, an "extension" got added to the disk name (I did not do this and I am not sure how it happened). The disk name (Cosmos) has not changed, but when right click and choose "get info", in the "Name and Extension" section, the disk shows up as Cosmos-1. Unfortunately, the name is greyed out and I can't change it.Does anybody know how I can remove the -1 extension and change the name back to Cosmos so that my backups see the disk again?
