I opened Finder and found a folder titled untitled DVD under the "Places" arrow. When I click on it it does nothing. Nothing appears on the right, nothing. Is it there because an application created it and the app needs it or do I have a glitch and it's going to be a pain to get rid of it if it's not needed? I have installed Toast 10 a few days ago.

View 3 Replies View Relatedall About 20mins ago a shortcut appeared in my Finder sidebar, for something called Untitled CD. Instead of having an eject button next to it, like an actual cd would have, this has a black and yellow wheel next to it. This is of particular annoyance to me, as i am now unable to burn any CD's. Instead a message pops up saying burn is currently in use by another program. I have tried everything to delete it, but it just wont go! Whats more interesting is that I have a macbook air, and the icon appears even when my external dvd drive isn't plugged in.

I'm finally experiencing the first official problem with my MacBook Pro of 2.5 years. The Finder shows too many Places! Like it has double of everything: 2 Desktops, Applications, Documents, Movies, etc. There's a screen shot in here as an attachment if it helps.

Maybe there's no way to change that - out of the box I mean, not by the user.This came up again when showing someone the procedure for coying to the flash drive. Wouldn't it make more sense for there to be no Places listed in the flash drive window, or to be able to assign Places that are actually on the flash drive rather than having those take you to, well, places on the hard drive? I'm I the only one annoyed by this?

untitled CD icon on the sidebar when I bring up the HD window and there it is under "Places". I've tried to move it with no luck. I've tried to delete it, with no luck. I've unchecked it in Sidebar Preferences and it's still there. I know it had to do with "Burn" which was installed and now isn't.

So in front row, all my tv shows are "untitled", but wait? Doesn't front row use iTunes as it's info stuff? Everything in iTunes is set up named, tags etc., but yet, front row keeps up with this crap. What can I do?

How can I change the Name: from untitled to something meaningful? I'm backing up two other laptops to this drive.
Whenever I insert a cd, it shows up on the desktop as "Untitled CD.fpbf" and I can not burn my data or music. Since then I have not been able to use it. It happens with every different Cd that tried.

#2 - I have two untitled calendars & the Entourage one that I want to delete. I can't figure out how to do that. Again, maybe I need to bite the bullet & upgrade to Lion so that I can sync with iCal?

I'm relatively new to Mac, only had mine for 6 months. Everything's going well and it's working fine, however, on 3 occasions in the last 2 months, when I've turned it on, before it goes to the white screen with the circling loading icon, it's made me click on the 'untitled' icon of my hard drive (at least I think that's what it is). The computer doesn't seem to run slower or encounter any other problems following this, I'm just a bit concerned as there doesn't seem to be any reason for it. I don't have Windows as an optional operating system etc.

I burnt a DVD this morning - two actually as the first copy had a 'verification' error. When I was finished, I dragged the burn folder (folder icon with the radioactive symbol on it) from the desktop to the trash. Later in the day, I emptied the trash.Same as I do about once a week. Despite emptying the trash and restarting the computer, the folder still shows up in the list of places in the left column of an open finder window.
The folder is not on my desktop and is not in my trash, just in the list of places. When I try to click on the folder in the list, I get a message "The Volume for ..... cannot be found". In the past, dragging the folder from the desktop to the trash, emptying the trash and then restarting has always removed it from the list of places (and I believe similarly when I have software updates via .dmg files). So the questions are: (1) how do I get rid of it now and (2) what could have caused it to happen.
I'm also not sure right now if it shows up under devices or places, but yeah. My Windows XP laptop does automatically show up in finder when its connected to the internet, my desktop windows 7 PC however, does not. I can connect to it manually through cmd + k and the IP. All 3 things, PC, Laptop and Macbook are on the same network, but only with the Laptop it works like that, not with the PC. Is it maybe, because on the Windows 7 machine I need to use my username to connect? Is there no way to make it show up automatically in the Finder sidebar?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I select a picture to save, it brings up the 'save' box, but takes a short time to allow me to do anything while it compiles a list of files under the 'places' tab on the left. I wouldn't normally mind this, but it takes about 30 seconds or so, and as far as I can see (through searching in the finder), all of these files were deleted a long time ago. Is there any way I can clear this list, or if they are still on my Macbook, how can I find them!

"This feature uses data from GPS-enabled cameras or the camera on iPhone to categorize photos by location and convert GPS location tags to common, user-friendly names."
Knowing nothing about how camera Geo-tagging works my question is if I buy a camera with a GPS built in how do I know iPhoto will read the location data. I was looking at the P6000 from Nikon but I have no clue if iPhoto will understand the lat/long data in the file. I called Apple and asked if they had a supported camera list and the two people I spoke to did not know what camera(other then the iPhone) were supported. Is the lat/long data from the iPhone pictures stored in the EXIF data or stored in some other way? Is the Geo-tagging of digital images by cameras a standard format?
is there a way to backup iPhoto's faces and places? I'm looking to transfer to a new mac and don't want to go through the long task of tagging my photos again. I don't have a time machine setup or a hard drive free to use with time machine.

I have just updated my HD to a SSD and noticed in the sidebar under Places I have the usual listing of Desktop, Home and Documents but another file that's never been there before has appeared. How can I delete it permanently? Searching for the file name on the computer brings no results. It look like a zip file that ends with 3x.gz.
View 2 Replies View Related1) I think when I was originally envisioning iPhoto '09, I thought Faces would automatically group everyone together and then I would just go to each grouping of a person and label them. After reading some of the threads, I see that this is not what happens. iPhoto scans your library and then you have to manually go through each photo and say this person is Adam, this person is Kate, etc. After you've manually entered enough people, the facial recognition software kicks in and it will start looking for people. This is where you confirm that the photo that's being suggested is the actual person. Is this how it works?
2) Does iPhoto every get "smart" enough to group persons together without me having to confirm or deny every time I add new photos of people? Or will I have to go through the 'confirm or deny' process every time?
3) As for Places, I have a 2G iPhone, so the location software is good, but not great. I've noticed Places puts down push-pins similar to the iPhone. Like the iPhone, can I manually move these push-pins to the correct location? For example, if the photo was taken in St. Louis and the push-pin was showing I was at the Gateway Arch, but I was actually Busch Stadium, could I select the push-pin and drag it from the Arch to Busch?
I updated to iLife 09 from 06 last night. Every signal picture that I have was placed into an event. I don't want every signal picture to be in events. I tried erasing pictures from events and emptying the trash. However that did just erase my pictures from the iPhoto library totally. There's has be an easy to tell iPhoto that some pictures aren't events.
Also I tried to manually to mark some of my pictures with locations. However iphoto doesn't remember my location information that I put in. Also the maps are grayed out and yes I'm connected to the Internet.
