My good quality MXL mic won't work with my Mac mini. I've heard this is because Mac minis can't cope with microphones that aren't self-powered! How can that be? Surely the latest Mac Mini has enough umph to power a microphone? My old iMac has no problem seeing the mic. Have I missed a firmware upgrade or something that will enable the Mac mini to 'see' my mic?

How do you get ANY microphone to work in facetime with mac mini ? I have tried plug in mics on mic input, a bluetooth headset and there is no sound..I can hear and see other party, they can see but cant hear me. View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought 2 new Macbook Pro 13' , 2.9 Ghz Intel Core i7, with 8 Go 1600Mhz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E2617).Â
I have connected a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter in order to show presentations on different LCD projectors but no image appear.Â
The external monitor is detected but no image is shown. I have tried to change the frequencies: parts of the screen appears but no a correct image. I have the same symptoms with the 2 Macbook Pro. Using old Macbook Pro with the same Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, the slides are showns normally.Â
I make a test with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and with a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and everythings works correctly with both adapters. Â

I can't get my microphone to work. On the system preferences> sound> input screen, I am "line-in", with volume up, and inserting the jack registers on the volume meter of little blue bars with a spike up, but no speech through the microphone is registering.

I am just looking for a little help with my Early 08 white Macbook. It is running 10.6 just in case you were wondering. But the problem I am having is that I can not get a microphone to work on the damn thing. I have tried 2 different microphones on it, both in through the line in and I have tried line out too and neither of them worked. When I go into system preferences and hit sounds and go to line-in it says it dosn't pick anything up.

I bought a used iMac from a seller on ebay. Everything works perfect, iSight camera is excellent. I tried recording a video and it worked, when I played it back it had no sound at all. I already tried going to system preferences and changing it to built-in microphone. I also reset the PRAM. I don't know what else to do!!
It has the version 10.6.8 installed, I don't know if that has anything to do with the mic not working.

I'm on the latest MBP and when I'm in bootcamp on Ventrillo, I sound like darth vader when I talk. I think the problem lays in the internal microphone (and the driver that doesn't seem to work)? So if I get an external one and plug it in, I'd rather not want to go buy an external mic and just have it not work still.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get a Sony ECM-DS70P Condenser Stereo Microphone with a 3.5mm stereo male plug to work on my MacBook Pro with a Behringer UCA222 USB Audio Interface and I am having no joy at all.The Microphone will not work when plugged directly into the Line-in jack on the MacBook Pro because the Audio Line-In input on the MacBook is line level -10dB to+4dB and microphones are generally around -40dB. So, I need either a line level preamp or a usb audio interface.I decided on a USB Audio Interface (Behringer UCA222).The Microphone is plugged into a 3.5mm stereo to RCA L & R cable which is plugged into the L/R RCA inputs on the Behringer UCA222. The Behringer UCA222's USB Cable is plugged into a USB port on the MacBook Pro.
On the Macbook Pro in System Preferences > Sound > the output is set to Internal Speakers and the input is set to the USB Codec (Which showed up when the Behringer UCA222 was plugged in). [code]

I know that my Mac-mini (mid-2010) is not supposed to have a Thunderbolt port but, it does. No question about that. Maybe it's a prototype or transitional config.

Question: Can I transfer files from my MBP to my Mini using the Thunderbolt cable. It may sound too simple but for me I have never tried this before with either a Mac or PC.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a Mini just a couple weeks ago and a LaCie 2big Thunderbolt drive. It's been working flawlessly, but today it doesn't recognize the drive and doesn't recognize even having Thunderbolt support and I can find nothing on Lacie's site or Apple's regarding this issue.

I have a Macbook Air 11in base specs, and an upgraded Alienware M18x. I do alot of traveling and sailing hence the use of the MBA. Now I'm planning on selling my Alienware since I use that as my desktop. The options I have are the Upgraded 27in Imac, or a Thunderbolt Display with the 2.5ghz mac mini. The only reason I'm leaning towards the latter is so I can use it as a Monitor for my MBA.

10.9.4 has failed to fix what was fine in 10.9.2 and broken starting with 10.9.3 -- a display (Dell U3011) connected to a Mac Mini mid-2011 via either a DisplayPort cable or dual-DVI adapter suffers from frequent loss of signal. The elsewhere-prescribed-juju of changing spaces, unplugging and replugging cables, ... works randomly and for short duration.Â
HDMI connection works (producing non-native resolution on the U3011).Â

I've recently bought an external hard drive that works on Thunderbolt 2 (LaCie d2 3TB). When I connect the new drive to my Macbook Pro through the thunderbolt port, the drive isn't recognized. However, the drive works fine through a USB connection. I thought that Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 are compatible, however this doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe it's because the OS X / driver / firmware version that I'm working on that is not updated? I work on an early 2011 Macbook Pro, OS X Snow Leopard.Â

With my 'old' Intel iMac using a Display Port adapter, my 24" LG Monitor would be detected correctly and worked first time. With my new 2011 iMac 27 using a genuine Apple mini DisplayPort adapter plugged into the Thunderbolt port, this same monitor now shows up as a generic VGA monitor and the range of resolutions is severely reduced - basically it looks terrible. I've tried disconnecting the cable, reconnecting, using the second Thunderbolt, changing resolutions, detecting displays, showing displays in the menu bar. All with no success.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to know if anyone can point out the advantages and disadvantages of using a line-in microphone (for the 1/8" analog jack) compared to a USB microphone for a Mac Pro. Do I need some kind of amplification for a head-set microphone with a 1/8 analog jack? I can't get mine to work, but I wonder if there's something I haven't selected correctly in my Preferences.

So would like to know if a Mini-diaplay port converter from apple would help me connect a exernal display via the thunderbolt port?
