Jul 3, 2012I bought 2 new Macbook Pro 13' , 2.9 Ghz Intel Core i7, with 8 Go 1600Mhz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E2617).Â
I have connected a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter in order to show presentations on different LCD projectors but no image appear.Â
The external monitor is detected but no image is shown. I have tried to change the frequencies: parts of the screen appears but no a correct image. I have the same symptoms with the 2 Macbook Pro. Using old Macbook Pro with the same Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, the slides are showns normally.Â
I make a test with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and with a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and everythings works correctly with both adapters. Â

Dec 24, 2008i just bought the macbook alu. w/ the mini displayport, i tried to plug it directly to my samsung 1080p hdtv with the Mdport to vga cable but the tv didnt display anything. so i searched the web to find other solutions (Mdport to dvi -> dvi to hdmi cable), but for me that means buying 2 other cables so i was wondering if i could use this route: mini displayport to vga -> vga/dvi-i adapter -> dvi-i/hdmi cable -> 1080p hdtv? with this example, i would have to buy only the dvi-i/hdmi cable since I already have the vga/dvi-i adapter (my old MSI 6600gt one) so hows that sound? thx for giving me the answer ASAP cause I need to make a surprise presentation for my boy!

Oct 7, 2009I have a presentation tomorrow and need to hook up my MBP to the projector in class. I bought an Apple Mini Displayport to DVI cable, and a DVI to DVI cable. I thought this would be the case, but come to find out the system does not support DVI. So I had to run to Best buy to get a DVI to VGA cable. I tried out the MDP > DVI > VGA rig on my external monitor and got nothing. The screen on my MBP responded by turning blue for a second and then back to normal...but the monitor said "No Signal". Is this some jargon with DVI-D and DVI-I? I need to know by tomorrow morning if I have to run back to the Apple Store and get a Mini Displayport to VGA cable.

Mar 23, 2012With my 'old' Intel iMac using a Display Port adapter, my 24" LG Monitor would be detected correctly and worked first time. With my new 2011 iMac 27 using a genuine Apple mini DisplayPort adapter plugged into the Thunderbolt port, this same monitor now shows up as a generic VGA monitor and the range of resolutions is severely reduced - basically it looks terrible. I've tried disconnecting the cable, reconnecting, using the second Thunderbolt, changing resolutions, detecting displays, showing displays in the menu bar. All with no success.

The mini DisplayPort on the 27 inchers allows for both audio and video to flow both IN and out of the iMac, so what do I need in order to get this working? What kind of software will I need to use?
I'm connecting the cable box through its HDMI port and on the other end I have attached the (quite pricey) HDMI-to-miniDP adapter. Do I still need some kind of tuner? My cable box is brand new and also has FireWire, USB, and Ethernet ports.

Nov 2, 2009I bought a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor with the intent of connecting my TV (with DVI-in) to my MacBook in order to use front row (and plex) for films.
However when I got home, I found that the DVI female of the adaptor does not match up (or successfully connect) to the DVI male of the cable. Have I done something foolish, but it seems that there are pins on the male that do not have a corresponding socket?
I have attached an image to try and help out...
Should I just give up and seek out a VGA instead?

Dec 24, 2010I have a new Macbook Air 13", 4GB RAM, 2.13Ghz, 256GB SSD.
I'm connecting the Macbook with the Apple Mini Displayport to DVI connector to a DVI cable to a Dell 2407 monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200. The resulting image is blurry. The fonts are blurry and drop shadows on the screen flicker quite badly. The resolution on my Macbook is indeed set to 1920x1200 to match my Dell 2407.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is the problem with the Mini Displayport to DVI adapter?
I know for a fact that the Dell LCD and the DVI cable work fine with my Windows 7 box. I have tried two different DVI cables as well.

Jun 21, 2012I have a mid 2011 MacBook Air 13 inch with a single Thunderbolt port. I have the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter cable which I am able to use to run a Dell 24 inch monitor - this cable connects to both the DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port and also a USB port on the Air. I want to be able to run this Dell monitor, and also run a Thunderbolt hard drive - one with 2 Thunderbolt ports. Is this possible? Can I connect the DisplayPort part of the cable to the pass-through Thunderbolt port on the hard drive, and then connect the hard drive to the Thunderbolt port on the Air? I would like to buy the Apple Thunderbolt display (which would solve this issue), but I suspect it will may refreshed soon. So I don't intend to get one until then.

Anytime I plug *anything* into the Thunderbolt port, the temperature jumps up by 15C-20C.Â
To be specific, if I plug a "DisplayPort->HDMI adpater" in even if it's not connected to an actual display the temparature increases.Â
SMC reset and EFI updates don't seem to help resolve the problem.  some users have reported that "InsomniaT" is sometimes the cause of the problem, however I don't have this sofware installed.Â

Oct 28, 2009I have an ATI Radeon 4870HD graphics card which has a Mini Displayport and a Dual-Link DVI port.
I'm connecting this to two Dell U2410 which each have a Displayport, HDMI ,DVI and VGA ports.
I can connect one of the monitors straight to the DVI port, but what should I do with the other? I can't find a Mini Displayport to Displayport adapter for sale in the UK. But there are Mini Displayport to HDMI adapters and Mini Displayport to DVI adapters available.
Also, would it be best to have both monitors on the same connection? If i go the HDMI route should I buy a DVI to HDMI adapter for the other port? Or have both on DVI? Will there be a visible difference between the monitors if they're not on the same type of connection?

A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). The laptop also has a displayport.

Feb 27, 2012I bought my Macbook Pro last september along with my Thunderbolt monitor.Everything was working until today (yes today was my first time bringing my Macbook Pro elsewhere) and when I moved it, the display shut off.then I realized that when I just move the Thunderbolt plug around it would turn on and off the display depending which side I would hold. would it be a problem with the Monitor cable? or a problem with the Macbook Pro itself? both are still under warranty, so I'm not worried, but it saves me the trouble of lugging either (especially the monitor) back to the Apple store.Â
