I'm using a 2GHz MacBook Pro as a HTPC, but it has developed some major heat issues and is not much longer for this world. I have read some threads regarding overheating issues with Minis and wonder if that is still an issue? I want to replace the laptop with a Mini and don't want to run into the same problems.

I have a MacBook Pro 17 inches (early 2009) with 2.8 GHz C2D and 4GB RAM on it. My OS is 10.6.4 and have all the latest updates installed. I have used this computer for 10 months and now it becomes so slow. I did all the stuffs that may help to speed it up (repair disk permission, repair disk, uninstall unnecessary software, only one user account, get rid of startup items), but none of them seems to work. I even went to the genius bar, but the genius there said there is nothing they can do. They suggested me to upgrade the memory to 8 gig. It will cost me at least 300 bucks to do that!
Don't want to invest that much on a old MacBook Pro. But the thing is, I have a lot of friends using MacBook that has only 1 or 2 gig memory but their computers are still way faster than mine. They can open a lot of programs at the same time but I cannot. If I do, the computer gonna be really sluggish, and sometimes crash. I also don't think it is the problem of the free space on my hard drive since I have a 500GB hard drive and 80GB free space on it. I have already tried to reinstall the system and restore it using time machine backup.

I have had nothing but problems since I upgraded to Yosemite. My graphics programs crash and run impossibly slow. I have to restart constantly to clear maxed out memory. My internet speed drags to a crawl, and I constantly have to repair permissions to open files THAT I CREATED. I can't open file attachments from Outlook either (I will NOT use Apple Mail - my clients use Outlook, so I have to as well).

I have a macbook pro and have recently noticed that when initially loading any of, google chrome, firefox or safari it takes a very long time for the internet to load the webpages.
It says that there is a full wireless connection but will not load the webpage.
Once the webpage has finally loaded after about a minute, subsequent browsing is as fast as can be expected upon my broadband connection, loading pages in <1s.
However the problem reappears whenever I open a new window, or anything else that might use the internet such as the app store, itunes or apple software update.

Is there a way to tell which one is slow, if anything is going slow? I have an extremely old PC which is normally ok for most things, but gets bogged down if I am doing too many things.I was so annoyed with our national real estate site after they changed the format that I wrote a letter once a long time ago.. and I was ready to let them have it again, listing all the reasons why it is so bad and so much worse than the original.
Today for the first time, I accessed the site (mls.ca) using my new iMac. It was like lightening speed, comparatively speaking.Wow, suddenly I knew why the mls people hadn't changed their new format.But then I started going to other sites.. like airmiles.ca for example, and it was slow as heck... and stalling.. etc.
How would I be able to tell whether it is an internet slowness or the computer being slow?

I'm happily using my new 24" iMac, but I've run across a little problem this evening. I was trying to send a 225mb file as a mail attachment through my Gmail account using Mail. When I go to send the file, Mail crashes and disappears. This happened a couple times, so I logged directly into Gmail and sent the file through the web browser. Now the system is hung up 'sending' in the Gmail browser, and Finder has become very sluggish (slow response to clicks, errors printing, etc). Can the iMac and/or Mail handle sending files of this size?

I was recently using my computer the other day which is a mac mini. I left it on and came back to use it and when I just clicked the mouse the screen froze. I tried using Ctrl-Alt-Esc but nothing worked so I just turned off the computer. I rebooted it again and I hear a clicking noise and the computer wont load, just a blank white screen. Repeated the same thing multiple times and still the same. Unfortunatley for me I didn't make a backup of the hard drive. I brought the computer into the apple store to get it fixed.
I wanted to know if there is any way to salvage(data recovery) any of the files from the hardrive or someway to recover them. I looked at how much it costs to do a data recovery and the price seems way to expensive.

I scanned a book a while back to a PDF file. I would like to split the PDF pages in half so that each paper page is on an individual PDF page. The only way I can see to do this is to duplicate the file and crop one copy to the left page and the other to the right. Of course, combining the files would be a tedious process.
Is there an easier way? I have Preview 4, Acrobat 8 and PDF Pen.

I have a mid 2010 mac mini, still under Applecare. I have been dealing with Apple support for 7 months now and cannot get a resolution to the problem other then their telling me it is software, not hardware. I consistently get errors indicating the AppleHDADriver crashes and goes to an error handler. This happens 100's of times a second. Along with this error I get an error stating the kernel is unable to find a directory. Both these errors show up in the console log under 'kernel errors' and happen daily.
The result of the problem seems to be the status bar/system clock freezes and doesn't update. The clock freeze occurs mainly when coming out of sleep, but has also happened durning full operation of the machine.
It seems no matter what software I install, or what vendor it is from or even what the software is used for, something crashes, the system slows down and freezes... It was two days ago the system started with an unresponsive mouse.
Any ideas he would be great... I am tired of trying to get the Apple 'senior advisor' to truly talk solutions. I lost 100's of hours when this problem first occurred as it started with Snow Leopard. When doing a clean install of Lion as directed by Apple support it was discovered the old time machine files were corrupt and couldn't be used to restore...
Those errors in the kernel have been there from the beginning... Across Snow Leopard, Snow Leopard clean install, Lion upgrade, Lion clean install and still those kernel errors are there consistent. This should indicate a hardware problem someplace and not software...

I have been facing a downloading issue on my safari app recently. Before, I could download by jus clicking on the download link. But just recently when I click on the downlink, safari brings me to the link instead of downloading the file from the link. I have tried resetting safari, deleting any files related to safari in library and delete-install safari but all these methods doesn't seem to take care of the problem.

This is the second time it has happened, the first was with a powered USB Hard Disk, this time with a WD Elements HD. The first time, it crashed and popped up an alert saying the machine needed to be restarted.After restarting it continued, then around half way through it crashed again.It then would not boot as it said the Mac Mini's HD was corrupted.Tried to repair using the recovery mode, with no joy.Reformatted Hard Disk, went to recover using online recovery, got a 6002F error and it wouldn't reinstallTook to apple service centre, they wanted to charge to reinstall the OS (put them straight on that ).
Now it looks like it's doing it again, this time after the first crash I'm just copying the files I need manually to the external Hard Disk, which so far is OK.

I finally took plunge and grabbed a new mini. I have it wired directly to my airport and the web browsing is slow on it. For example I will go to engadget.com and it will only load half way and then just stop. I thought maybe my internet was going crazy but my windows desktop connected "right next to it on airport" loads instantly.
It does this on different web sites. I even did the safari reset but its same issue. Any suggestions on what I can do to trouble shoot? I dont want to take this thing back.
I was also wondering if there was a way to Mirror my display but with two different resolutions? I have googled this and cant find a straight answer at least not from anything posted in last couple years....
I have 1900x1200 on my Pc display and I have an HDMI going under house to My 65" Plasma which is 1900x1080
Any software tweaks I can do? This is a permanent setup with the ipad as the remote....

As I continue to buy into the never ending Apple ecosystem I now need a cheapo Mini to run our iTunes library 24/7.
Want to have it run Home Share for our new Apple TV's.
Will a cheap Core Solo work? Need to share out Quicktime files in HD and then music, plus read our Aperture Library.
I'm not familiar with the entire product line so must have Gigabit, don't care if it burns DVD's just so long as it reads them.

What I'm trying to do is set up the apple tvs to be connected to a router that is not connected to the internet, which we'll call Router B.The Mac Mini has all the movies and TV Shows on the iTunes account is hardlined into another router that is connected to the internet, which we'll call Router A.Is it possible to have the Mac Mini hardlined into Router A (to have an internet connection) and simultaneously connected wirelessly to Router B (so the AppleTVs can pull from the Mac Mini iTunes.)?Or vice versa, hardlined into Router B (non internet connection) and Wireless to Router A (internet connection).

I tried various software on both OS X and Windows, on the same computer using the same connection, and the result is always the same. In Windows, I barely notice that they're running, and in OS X, I'm always needing to refresh the pages several times for them to load, even when it's downloading at a speed of 2 KB/sec.
So what's the big idea? Is there something about ports/sockets that I need to know about OS X?

well I got my Mac about 4 months ago and can't deal with the way the WiFi acts on my Mac anymore. The internet is fine when it's loading webpages, but it's really slow at loading images, streaming and downloading. For example, this forum loads extremely fast, but if someone had a GIF for a sig, it would finish loading in about 10 minutes.
I searched for help but a lot of the information I found doesn't seem similar to my problem. I'm starting to think that there's just something wrong with my Mac.
Also, the thread about adding DNS to make the internet faster was confusing. (Since I don't even know what it does. ) I attempted to try it but it just creates an extremely slower network for me called wireless.

I have an aluminium macbook that I got just over a year ago. Internet was fine until about a month ago. Now it's completely sporadic. Sometimes it takes a second to load a page, sometimes it takes 5 minutes. Without rhyme or reason. I can open a page I've been loading for ages in a new tab and it will load straight away. We have three other computers (pc's) on the network and they're all completely fine.
I've done speed tests. They've ranged from 13kb/s to 2mb/s. It is ridiculously annoying and I have no idea what to do. I don't know why it's changed, I haven't changed any settings. Everything else, word, itunes etc. runs fine. I asked this a couple of weeks ago with no result,

For some time now, I have noticed that my Mac's internet is running super slow. I am saying slower than what I see on my PeeCee (Used for gaming such as CSS and Half-Life)! So, I set out on a Google journey to find that a lot of people have been having the same problem with they Airport. It seems that in some Apple updates, the Airports are having issues. So, I tried to fix it and I came up with this wonderful guide. My internet now loads Facebook in 3 sec instead of the 30 sec it was before and I can watch my good old YouTube videos in a flash.
First, Open your "System Preferences";
Next, go to your "Network" settings;
From there, make sure Airport is highlighted and click "Configure";
Click the "TCP/IP" tab;
Type 4.2.2.1 into the blank DNS Servers box, hit return and type 4.2.2.2 then click the "Apply Now" button like so;
Your internet may restart, but it will come back on right after you hit Apply! And your internet should now return to speeds like it used to have. I am running 10.4.10 and I am proud to say my Internet is fast as hell.

Google taking long to load up, a google search loading slowly, facebook taking a couple of minutes. My girlfriend used the same wireless network on her Dell Vostro laptop using internet explorer and it moves lighting fast. (The internet connection is cable high speed 7.5 mbps).

I'm absolutely struggling with getting a decent connection speed on my mac. This started happening a few weeks ago and haven't been able to get it sorted after many hours of searching, restarting, recreating connections, etc. There are three computers in the house. 1 PC, 2 Macs.
The PC and the older Mac 1.3 have no problem with connection speed, getting 5Mb/s downloads ans 0.75Mb/s uploads. The other mac is 10.5 with all the updates. It is currently getting 0.28Mb/s Download and 0.66Mb/s Upload. I've the OpenDNS or 4.2.2.x entries in the DNS, and that hasn't fixed the problem.
The older mac does not use these entries and it still connects fine. Strangely, Skype works with full video and no issues with connectivity, which makes me think that some ports are able to get more than the 0.28Mb/s download, as I doubt I would get Skype video at such slow speeds. I've tried FF and Safari, both crazy slow. I don't have access to the WiFi base-station, but clearly it is working fine because both of my other computers are connecting to the internet without a problem. I'm running out of options, and there is no Mac store within 200 miles of where I live.

I have a G5 iMac, v10.4.11, that is connected via ethernet cable to the internet and my workplace's server. Trying to browse webpages is very slow, taking 10+ seconds in Firefox for the page to even do anything, ex. searching on Google. The same internet connection works very quickly on my PC.
I've tried switching ethernet cables with the PC and Mac - no change; PC internet is quick, Mac is slow.
Tried repairing disk permissions - no change.
I've unchecked "Automatic Proxy Configuration" in the Network settings - no change.
I've released and renewed the IP address - no change.
I've traced the route on Mac and PC - the route is the same.
I've turned off the Airport in case it might be interfering with the cable connection - no change.
I've run out of ideas! What could be the problem, and how can I fix it? An IT person suggested reformatting it - I'd really rather not format the whole computer.

I don't even know where to begin in regards to fixing this and I'm hoping someone can help shed some light. This is really frustrating.I'll call Apple if need be but I wanted to ask you guys first because I know Apple will say it's my ISP and my ISP will say it's Apple.

About a week ago I started having unbearably slow internet on a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. The problem occurs on both wired and wireless connections. The problem occurs in Safari, FireFox, and Chrome. The browser stalls at the "connecting" phase of web page loading. Speed tests are not impacted. Sometimes it appears to load pages in "bursts". I have tried 3 changing the DNS and still have the problem. I have tried reinstalling OS X and still have the problem.

So i just got my macbook air today, and im loving it. The only problem is that the internet on this thing is SLOW. I have pretty decent internet at home, both my pc and macbook pro (2007) is fine. But on the MBA, a normal website takes minutes before being completely loaded. I just tested all my computers on speedtest.net, and my mbp was able to get 11.86download and 0.84upload, while my MBA get 0.45download and 0.15upload Is anyone else getting this problem?

(although i loved until now.....) i need to know what i can do to make it run faster. it seems to only be a problem when i'm on the internet although i could be wrong. (i know it is not just a connection issue because my ipod touch is running off my wireless much faster than my computer.
