May 1, 2012My ethernet card just stopped working. I switched cables and locations on the modem with no response. I can't seem to determine what is wrong.

Sep 16, 2009Internet, file sharing and screen sharing all work on Ethernet Port 1. None of these work on Ethernet Port 2. Would anyone happen to know how to fix this problem?

Network system prefs recognizes that the Ethernet cable is plugged in but flips between unknown state an cable unplugged. Never gets a DHCP address. When the cable is unplugged, it stays on the unplugged status.
As a note, I am having trouble getting Parallels to recognize any network connection at all, butmy immediate concern is the ethernet port.

Nov 30, 2007Been troubleshooting this one awhile...I even did an Archive and Reinstall....my Ethernet port on my 2.16Ghz MBP won't connect to anything. I get an IPv6 address when plugging into a router, but DHCP never works and a manually assigned IP doesn't work either. Reboot into Windows and it works fine...I've tried removing the Ethernet port, and have futzed with all the settings trying to reset it, but no dice. Problem started somewhere around 10.4.9, I think...I'm on 10.4.11...I reinstalled to .8 and worked my way back up...never works.

Recently my SD Card slot stopped working and i'm not sure if I go into the Apple store if they can do anything (i have an apointment on Saturday at 5PM)... basically my question is do you think they will have to replace my computer, or will i have to leave it there and they will repair it?

I was getting ready to plug it into my monitor, which I used on my old Windows Machine, and I realized that the Mac Mini would not plug into my monitor. I did try using the adapter that came with my Mac Mini, but it didn't work. My Monitor has a VGA port, yet the adapter wouldn't. I do not want to buy an Apple monitor because they are too expensive for me.

I thought I would be able to use the Mini Displayport to DVI adaptor to connect it to my Mac Pro through DVI and it doesn't work. I know you can do it with mini displayport to mini displayport although, both my mini displayports are currently in use by by 24 ACD.

Apr 14, 2010There was another thread on this that I found via Google, but now I can't seem to find it again. I have to occasionally hook up my Macbook (not a Pro) to various digital projectors at different companies. I bought the $20 attachment thing. I brought it in and have not been able to get any projector to recognize it at all. This is on several different projectors. I try hooking it up both before and after turning the computer on and it doesn't work. I went to "Display" in System Preferences but there is nothing there about changing the display (to "dual" or "mirror" or anything), it just says "Color LCD" and some preferences about size, bits and stretching. There are no tabs. The worst part is that I teach at a lot of tech companies, so the people there should all know how to fix it, but...1.) can't read English that well, and my Chinese is OK but not *that* good, and 2.) they all use PCs. Macs are like aliens to them. So they can't fix it either. The manual is worse than useless.

May 16, 2012We have 10.6.7 Podcast producer and mac minis with 10.6.8 and a ADVC-110 Canopus conected to firewire and recording by a java app developed to schedule our recordings based on a database which has all the dates of classes. All the macminis has a Energy Saver Schedule to shutdown at 12:00am and starts at 07:00am And all the mac minis in the podcast capture preferences are binded to the server and has the quality choose on good having a file of 271mb per hour. But the problem goes here, every file that is uploaded to the podcast server are really big we are talking about a 1h :20m are about 16gb. So my server is really really slow trying to encode this files. Is any other way to force podcast capture to capture smaller files? i dont know if the problems is in configuration or in our advc 110 I have been testing different versions of mac os x and the only one that the codification of best, good and better works was in the 10.6.4. Even lion fail on the codification of the video. The problem is that we have mac mini 2011 and i cannot install 10.6.4 only run 10.6.8...

Mac Mini :: (Fall 2010) Optical DVD Drive Doesn't Work?
May 26, 2012I purchased this spring of 2011 and only used the drive to install the software. I had lots of other problems with kernel issues and was in and out of the Genius Store like a hen on an egg, but now I am trying to use the DVD drive and it doesn't work. It doesn't recognize any applications to open it, not Toast, not Disk Utility, and it has a hard time recognizing music CDs also.Not only does it not recognize it on the desktop, it simply spits the disk out. I purchased new DVD-RW and tried to write an .iso image to the DVD, and it won't work. Sad fact is that this is now past the warranty and I am stuck with this. The Mac Mini 2010 version was expensive, and the only reason I bought it was because of the drive because I didn't have one.

Apr 1, 2009it seems loading webpages and downloading a lot of files at the same time, I thought the ethernet would be the fastest but its not.
This is very strange and my wireless on the mini is so much faster in loading webpages (no more inbetween stops) and its just overall faster.
It seems like using ethernet slowed down my mini like it was doing some tedious work to use the mini's ethernet capabilities or something.
Anyone else experiencing this? I've also tweaked with a lot of settings under ethernet, got the right ip address for it with the right port as well.

Jun 23, 2012I experience this problem for 2 days now. The wi fi says it is connected and all the bars are full but id doesn't load a single page!
The internet i've got is vergin so normally is very fast.Downstairs where we have a desktop computer connected to the D-link is working as normal.
When I open the network diagnostics in mac it shows : wi fi is green , wi-fi settings is green, network settings is failed(red), ISP failed(red), Internet failed (red), server failed red.

Does this work like alot of accessories where you just plug in (via PCI heh) and it just works or im stuck with 10/100? (all equipment in the house is N with Gigabit so if I could turn the PowerMac G5 into a Gigabit Machine, I could network files SOO much faster, other wise, its just a bottle neck)

Jan 28, 2009Despite the prevalence of OS X in the Mac market place now, I've been unable to get OS X versions of some applications I use now and then, and a few games whose source-code no-one seems even willing to acknowledge ever existed, so I have an older blue and white G3 (300mhz) lying around. However, I no longer have any monitors I can really reliably use with it, so I was thinking I'd use VNC to remote-desktop into it instead. I got this all set-up, and it works okay-ish, but the main issue is speed. I'm connecting to it via a direct connection to my Mac Pro, which of course has gigabit ethernet, so I figured it might be possible to pick up a gigabit ethernet card somewhere, but with OS 9 being so old there is the issue of drivers. I'm hoping someone here might know where I can find a gigabit ethernet card for my G3? I may try firewire to see if that works at all, but I suspect that gigabit ethernet would be better overall if I can get that.

In order to boot into os x can I just leave the 280 in the 1st slot and put the old 7300 gt in the 2nd slot ?
Then I can turn the power off from the 280 and it will default to the 2nd slot rite? Or must I remove the bottom (280) card for the older card to work?

Oct 22, 2007I've been looking around for an additional gigabit ethernet card for my single 1.8 G5 processor. I've read many of the postings but they relate to the 1.8 dual processor with pci-x. I only have pci slots (4 ram slot model - late 2004 revision) and am stumped.
The DGE-528T looked like it may work, then I read it hasnt been confirmed as working for the G5 sinle processor as of yet.
The next card that may work is the Intel PRO/1000MT.

Ive been following the custom upgrades and ive upgraded every Mac computer ive bought over the last few years - its now time for me to change the studio as its running an aging G5! But ive fallen in love with the 27" IMac - my head says no, my heart says yes yes yes!
The problem is it doesn't have the ins and outs for a proper pro machine and no PCI-E of course...but im willing to live without a couple of PCI-E cards for this beautiful machine, especially as im planning on putting two Intel X25-M G2's in, in a software raid 0 config by removing the opitcal drive (as I have done on my macbook pro)
which got to me thinking, i'll have all my network access via ethernet - so I wondered, any chance i can pull that wireless card out and swap it for something else...perhaps thread something out of the CD slot and around the back?
I need some bigger storage on here, so i'll be using the FW800 port for a 2tb 7200rpm external drive, however, i still need FW400 devices and I dont want to slow the FW800 drive down by daisy chaning them on...so...

May 29, 2009I'm having a problem using my Built -in Ethernet. I have iMac running Macosx 10.4.11. Everytime I connect a cable it doesn't register it in the Network Panel, It tells me that, 'The cable for Built - in Ethernet is not plugged in.' I have tried a couple of different cables, neither work, but they do work with my Macbook running Macosx 10.5.6. So I don't think there's a problem with the cables. Do I need to configure anything or should they work automatically as they do on the Macbook?
