Mac Mini :: Using Dual Display Turning Off Main Monitor?
Jul 8, 2009i have 2 LCD's hooked to the new Mini as such:
1 going mini display port to DVI adapter to DVI on 19" Monitor (standard monitor)
1 going mini DVI to DVI adapter to a DVI to HDMI on 52" LCD (Samsung TV)
i just sold me iMac and switched to the Mini not only to be able to hide the Mini which i couldn't do with the iMac but also when i watch a movie full screen on the 52 i was never able to turn off the iMac monitor and would have to cover it with a towel so that it was dark in the room except for the 52 showing the movie.
my thought was that with 2 monitors separately hooked up to the Mini that i could solve the turning off the second monitor problem as they would now both have power buttons. besides making it dark in the room i also like to have the monitor off and so that i can have Plex on the 52 always in full screen mode so my wife can just hit "Watch Plex" on the logitech remote and the TV and Stereo switch to the proper inputs and away she goes to watch whatever without having to touch the computer which when both monitors are on works perfectly.
OS X :: Mac Mini Display Blue Tint When Hooked Up To TV
Dec 16, 2009Picked up a used mac mini from eBay to use as a HTPC. This is my first mac.
When hooked up to a TV the display has a blue tint to it. I have tried the 2 TVs in my house, both have the same result. It's so blue its not usable. When hooked up to a 20" 1440x900 reg monitor it looks fine.

Mar 1, 2010I have recently bought a 13" Macbook Pro and wanted to hook up an external display (an oldish acer 19"). I have a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter hooked up to a DVI -VGA adapter which leads to the display. I haven't got it to work yet. I have followed advice about closing the lid and using usb mouse and keyboard with no luck. The only thing that happens is that the screen on the laptop flashes blue for about a second after plugging in the Mini DisplayPort adapter.

Feb 19, 2009This started very suddenly today. I was in finder looking through some pictures when my screen suddenly turned blue. After a second, it faded back to normally, so I continued what I was doing. After about 5 minutes, it happened again, but faded back. It's be less than a half-hour, I haven't touched the computer but the screen is turning blue than fading back every half a minute or so. Every now and then, the screen stays blue for about 20 seconds.

Sep 15, 2009As you can tell by the thread title I've got one of the latest model iMacs and I'm running an LED Cinema Display as a second monitor. When it gets to the late hours I like to watch some movies on the Mac so I figured the Cinema Display would be a nice addition to do the job.
Now here's my issue: if it's late and I'm watching movies I tend to not have any lights on, but having one of the displays on means having both of them on, what I'm wondering is if it's possible to sleep one display while allowing the other to stay active so I can watch the movie without the light from the other one distracting

Mar 29, 2009So, recently, my Mac Mini has been running pretty damn slowly. So, I decided to reformat the drive, reinstall OS X and then restore from Time Machine, in the hope that it would help.It didn't.Before restoring from TM, I booted into the fresh install of Leopard. It was SO fast.So, my question is this:Is the only true way to get speedy again to reformat and basically start again? What is it that I've restored that keeps me slow?

May 27, 2012My Mac Mini is running very slowly, everything I do is running slowly from google chrome to destop functions. My internet lags and I can hear the processor working chirping away all thwe time. I have tried to defrag and even turned off the wifi to see if it was internet related. Even textedit and preview drag and when they do open the window opens slowly. I am going to take it to the genius bar this week, I wonder do I really need more RAM? I am using Lion 10.7.4 Mac Mini i5 2.3 GHz. I am getting apple's router and replacing my belkin to be on a secure network.

Oct 26, 2010Having chosen a useful large external hard drive I find it says 'Windows only'. Surely, though the software will not work, all I need to do is format the HD and it will work. The machine is: Seagate FreeAgent 500GB External Hard Drive USB2.0 16MB.

Mar 4, 2009So I have a late 2009 Mac Mini hooked up to my Kuro via the mini-DVI to DVI adapter then DVI/HDMI cable to my receiver. I get digital audio out of the Mini via another cable. First question, if I were to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter would I get both sound & video?
I love using PLEX but my Mac Mini is my only "computer" (I have an iPad). I would like to sit at my desk and use photoshop and other tools. Second question, can I do dual display using the mini-DVI and mini-Display Port jacks at the same time on a Late 2009 Mac Mini?
My gadget loving self has purchased a HP Wireless TV Connect. I was planning to use the dual HDMI output of receiver but I couldn't work on the PC and have someone watch PLEX so that is why I ask about dual screen (essentially extended desktop) using those two ports. The plan is to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter and connect it to the transmitter of the HP Wireless TV connect and then an Apple display to the receiver. Make the main display the Apple display and the extending desktop running PLEX on that screen the Kuro.

Oct 11, 2009I am looking to for something that will let me take my HD antenna and get it to go to my display. Is there anything that will allow me to do that? I'm just looking for something that'll work with the HD antenna, I'm not really concerned about cable TV or anything like that.

Dec 26, 2009I have a brand new MBA. First week no problems. Now the display doesn't start when I start up the computer. If the display is open as usual, around 110 degrees. If I almost close the display, just enough to get the finger in and start up, the displays lights up. If I then bend it up to approx 110 degrees prior to logging in the display turns black. If I log in when the display is almost closed I can bend the display as I like 100ds of times and the MBA works as usual.

But I don't want it like that all the time, for instance when I play games it's really irritating if I drag the mouse to much to the side it goes out to the TV. How do I turn it off? Jul 4, 2012I just received a new Macbook Pro (2012, retina display) and a 27" Thunderbolt display. I am having problems getting the notebook to turn on the display. I called Apple (Monday) and they had me reset the SMC and then the PRAM. After this the monitor was recognized and worked fine for the rest of the evening. However, when I turned things on yesterday evening the monitor would not turn on, and resetting the SMC and PRAM (multiple times) has no effect.

IMac :: Turning Off Display And Keep System Running?
Sep 24, 2010Windows user here that just ordered a 27" QuadCore iMac. Usually on my PC at home, whenever i'm not using it I turn off the monitor but leave the computer itself running most of the time (I run a lot of torrents, VNC, etc). Is there a way to turn off only the display and keep the computer running like I normally would on the PC?

Apr 6, 2009I need to connect my 09' Mac Mini to my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver which outputs to my Sony XBR HDTV. I know the mini has both mini-dvi to dvi and mini-dp to dvi or hdmi available via adapters. I was thinking to go with option 1 however I was wondering what is your opinions? Is mini-display port better over mini-dvi or are they the same? Audio will be carried over optical toslink.
Option 1:
Using mini-dvi adapter to dvi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Option 2:
Using mini-dp adapter to dvi or hdmi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.

Mar 29, 2012I have iMac 27 and screen problem on start up i have blue vertical lines, when it start i have a lot of blue dots and nothing else. when I connect outside monitor its showing the same.
Just installed lion and still the same problem when it starts blue dots, when startup in safe mode loads of blue lines and dots on the screen.

Mar 6, 2009I'm getting a high resolution, and it looks alright, but it's not fully using the widescreen. That's "aspect" right? Well anyway, I also have a 19" display and it works perfectly. My Xbox, cable box and movies all use the full widescreen on the Acer, but the Macbook with the super amazing Mini DisplayPort doesn't even use the full resolution. What's with that? I thought the reason they had this new port and a $30 adapter was for higher resolutions!

Mar 19, 2012Mac Mini was running really slow. So we reformatted the hard drive and restored the computer using our restore disk and our Time Machine backup. After restoring our system, when it reboots, it reboots to a blue screen. It sits there and sits there.
