Ran the extended test a couple times and got an error result: 4MEM/9/40000006:B:OC:OR:2. Is this telling what my problem part is? Location? I decided to run the test because I've been having startup issues, no startup chime, sometimes no monitor startups, etc. Hence, I keep machine running 24/7, until software updates. From search, it definitely sounds like a stick of memory, but which one. Do I have to pull a pair and run the test each time to find out the culprit? I think I bought from OWC a couple times, and one other time from a another vendro (kingston ram).

Problem:
I have a folder with numerous subfolders, each containing numerous files that i would like to batch unlock (vs tediously unlocking each individual folder).
failed attempts involve:
- tried the following terminal action: sudo chflags -R nouchg ( as suggested on this website (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106237) but it did not work.
I did not try the other suggestions on the website because it started getting really complicated and i was afraid to do something that may cause damage/delete my files
- tried unlocking the folders and subfolders, however each individual file within the corresponding folder/subfolders remained locked
Partial but suboptimal solutions tried:
- i found a partial but not optimal solution to my problem on this site:
however, the option-command-I will only allow me to unlock files each subfolder at a time (as i need to actually highlight the files themselves).
is there a way where i could just unlock all the folder/subfolders/files within an entire directory in one fell swoop?
My system:
- the new MBP running Mac OS X 10.5.2
i am a new mac user and i apologize in advance if there is some simple solution to this problem that i have yet failed to discover,
When opening it shows "as icons" but if I select "as list" or if I select desktop folder, it freeze and doesn't show anything nor close the window. Following is my log:

Also, numerous songs will not play because "file is not found" and I'm having to manually find each song... There has to be a better way to do this for over 1,000 GB of songs!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI made something in Illustrator, neglected to embed the link using the Links panel, and then deleted the link. Everything shows up fine in Acrobat and the Illustrator file is huge, indicative that the links are actually in the Illustrator file. I can place it into a new Illustrator document and everything shows up just fine, but I can't edit it. How do I extract the links from this Illustrator file and/or relink them to the one that is in the .ai itself?

Under Leopard and prior, in List view you can highlight a line by selecting anywhere on the line. However, to actually select the file to drag it, etc, you had to select the file name itself, clicking the date etc wouldn't allow you to drag the file.
Well, in Snow Leopard, you can now select anywhere on the line and it will allow you to drag the file(s). Pretty nice.
However.....this causes a weird UI issue. If the window you are working in is small enough so that the items in list view fill it up completely (so there is a scroll bar), you can no longer right click on any empty space or the date/filesize etc to pull up the contextual menu for example to create a New Folder.
If there is empty space below the file list, then it still allows you to right click to get the menu.
I have a folder called 'text books' and within that folder I have 100 more folders named by author. Inside the folders are .txt files of their work. Is there any way I can select all the .txt docs and paste them in one big folder? In other words, is there a way of removing all the sub-folders and putting all the .txt files together in one place?Â

I have tried moving them to the trash, as well as using the move to trash button. They seam to go to the trash can but when I delete the trash they are still in the file. I am trying to clear out some old files so that I can have room on my start up disk. My Disk is full and it is making it hard for me to open more then one file. I am getting an external hard drive soon but don't want these files on it.

Since I updated to SL, my quick look hack to view Illustrator files doesn't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow do I delete these files. I can't do anything with them...can't put in folder, can't move to another area of the desktop. They're taking up room. Also, since I installed Lion, I've had other issues with Illustrator...crashing on opening, difficulty opening files. Is Illustrator CS3 not compatible with Lion? I also have Illustrator CS5, but haven't gotten used to it yet. I have no problem never using CS3 again, but the big question right now is how to get rid of the Illustrator temp files on my desktop.

does anyone know how to select a group of files to then get the total size of the group. ever since i upgraded to snow leopard, whenever i select a group of files and then click on info, i get separate windows for every file and then must add them up separately.

When I download a file from the internet, the O.S (MAC OS X 10.6.8). only allows me to save it to a few select root folders or desktop. A windows pc allows you to drill down multiple levels (if desired) and save it wherever you want.

I am trying to insert multiple pictures at once into a word document, on office for mac 2011. I am using the 'insert picture' option from the toolbar. Shift-click doesn't work like on a PC, and I have tried a variety of button combinations that don't seem to have any effect! Is there any way around this so I don't have to insert picture files into a word document one at a time?

A friend sent me a RAR file, I unpacked it and nothing appeared in the downloads folder where I unpacked it to? After doing this a couple of times as I thought it might be a blip, I deleted everything in the folder. But the folder states the size of it is 4.5gb for 0 items?

I am attaching multiple files from the same folder to different emails using gmail. I do not use any email programs on my iMac. Everything is virtual. I don't want to have go through all my file toggles to get to the folder I am working from every time, which is what I am doing.I want the computer to remember and default to that folder. How can I set this up?Â

I'm new to Mac so please be gentle!
I've just added a couple of entries to my HOSTS file to test whether it works the same way in Mac OSX (SL) as it does in Windoze.
I've found it does... and it doesn't.
My 4 test entries are totally blocked if I use Safari, but they're NOT blocked in Firefox.
Could someone tell me in simple terms why this is so, and if there's something I can do to make Firefox obey the HOSTS redirects?

i have a 1.5 Mbps AT&T DSL connection, and multiple speed tests show a download speed of 1.2 Mbps (and 200 Kbps upload). when i download files, such as software updates from Apple, various podcasts, and even Silverlight from Microshaft, the speed is always between 140 - 160 Kbps. i contacted AT&T, and the rep said it was because of buffering by the servers i was receiving the files from.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen saving files to my folder on the desktop from the Mac Email, it does not replace same name files. Instead it makes a new file by adding (-1, -2, etc.) at the end of the file. Is there a setting somewhere that makes it so that this does not happen?
