Jun 8, 2012New to iMac, just trying to do something I could do on the PC without any trouble. Can't seem to get the burn folder to burn to a new CD-R. Can't seem to get the iMac to recogmize that there is a CD in the drive.
Have tried more than one CD. It does eject, but stalled out on the transfer.
I miss my PC. this has taken an hour for something that should be--well--easy.

Apr 20, 2009I am trying to back up some DVD is I OWN.I used MTR to get the Video_TS folder on my HD.I have been trying to get Burn to create a disk that will work on my stand alone DVD player (which supposedly supports DVD -/+R and RW well as DivX).WHICH TYPE OF DISK DO I TELL BURN TO CREATE? I've been trying to burn on to dual layer disk i.e 8.5 GB.Video_TS foldeer is 7 GBIf I chose the DATA TAB tell Burn to create a "DVD-video disk" I get a disk that my computer can play in the DVD App that functions like a DVD, BUT my stand alone DVD player won't recognise it. (tells me its a DATA disk).

Sep 17, 2010It is supposed to be the best burning package on mac. But I doubt it. I convert videos to dvd-video format using the absolutely brilliant windows7 application convertxtodvd. Please dont tell me to use a mac application instead of it. I tried it many times, there were always several problems(slow speed, subs etc). This is not the case here.
So, I want these dvd-videos in Video_ts format, to be burned in dvd disks using toast. It is supposed that video_ts folder are a standard folder, no matter the system you use. But toast has a different opinion. When I drag the folder in the dvd-video window, it asks to re-encode the video!!!If I try to burn this video_ts folder in windows machine using 'nero', no problem at all, straight burning! I really cannot understand why this happens.
Another problem I have is that the files I want toast to burn, usually reside to network computer. Is there any way to burn files from a network computer(win) using toast? Can toast access network or not? If not, I have to manually copy files to local disk, several minutes spent for copying gigabytes just to be able to burn them.

Apr 18, 2012I have tried moving them to the trash, as well as using the move to trash button. They seam to go to the trash can but when I delete the trash they are still in the file. I am trying to clear out some old files so that I can have room on my start up disk. My Disk is full and it is making it hard for me to open more then one file. I am getting an external hard drive soon but don't want these files on it.

Mar 30, 2012When saving files to my folder on the desktop from the Mac Email, it does not replace same name files. Instead it makes a new file by adding (-1, -2, etc.) at the end of the file. Is there a setting somewhere that makes it so that this does not happen?

Intel Mac :: How To View All Files On External HD Except ITunes Folder
Jun 28, 2012I recently had an external 500 gig Western Digital that stopped working. I took to store and had them transfer the data onto a new external portable hard drive (1.5 gig). At store they hooked up to Mac Book and showed me the files in the itunes folder, however when I connect the drive at home to my imac running tiger 10.4.6 none of the files are visible in the itunes folder.
All the other backup files are fine. And when I right click on iTunes folder >Get Info. It says zero kb in the folder. However I know the files are there because itunes is working and playing them fine. And when I search for a band and open the folder of say "pearl jam" folder it then magically shows just those sub folder for that group in the itunes folder. It seems that the files are definitely there I just can't view them.

Jan 11, 2010I am trying to burn a text folder to a CD. I have an IMAC with OS 10.5.8, I have a correct burn folder on the desktop. I also have an untitled CD icon on the desktop (However Finder does not show a CD disk drive). When I try to use Disk Utility to burn the Burn Folder to the CD I get an error saying the the CD does not have enough space. (Burn Folder is 1.09 GB, CD is empty). Do I need to prepare the CD in some way in order to use it?

Nov 27, 2008I have been trying to backup a few .avi files I have onto DVDs and after reading over the forums I have aquired ffmpegx and Toast 8. I place the avi file into ffmpex, encode it with the dvdffmpeg format. But once i burn it with toast, it takes the original wide screen avi file and stretches it to full screen.
I tried re-encoding with the DVD 16:9 setting selected with ffmpeg and it seems to look better in a preview, but when I try and burn the Video_TS folder in Toast it gives me the CSS Encryption disk error, which I do not understand because I'm not copying a copyrighted dvd.

I have hundreds of files on this drive, arranged essentially in a tall column 3 or 4 files wide. I DON'T want new folders (or files that i copy or save to the drive) being placed all the way up at the top, out of view to the right because then i have to drag them all the way down to the bottom. Follow? Yet, this is what OSX is doing (usually).

Aug 10, 2010i want to burn multiple tom and jerry files for my daughter onto one single dvd so i can play it on the dvd player for her. Each file is about 75 MBS (8 mins episodes) but altogether they make upto 1.7 gb. The DVD-RW is 4.7 GB more than enough room i know but i just don't know what software to use that will allow me to burn them all and be playable on a dvd player. Jan 14, 2002I compiled cdrdao for Mac OS X. This can burn bin/cue files very easily. The only cue/bin pair which haven't worked for me thus far had spaces and hyphens in the file-name. Changing the file name and editing the cue file to reflect that solved the problem.

The command is used thusly:
Insert a blank CD, tell the finder to ignore the CD and continue.
type: sudo ./cdrdao write -device IOCompactDiscServices blah.cue
If run as root cdrdao will use high priority threads to avoid underruns.
If you have a DVD burner you would use "IODVDServices" instead.
If your CD-R isn't known (like mine wasn't) you can select a specific driver. For example this is in my .tcshrc file:
alias cue sudo /Users/anarkhos/cdr/cdrdao write --device IOCompactDiscServices --driver generic-mmc
thus to burn anything I just type "cue blah.cue"

I have iTunes-library (like most of us do). What I would like to accomplish is to copy my library to a server on my network. Of course I can do the initial copying manually, but what I would like to do is that whenever I add content to my library, a folder action kicks in, and copies that new content to the server.
Now, I created a folder action with Automator, and it kinda works. What it does is that it looks at certain folder, gets folder-contents (subfolders included, since iTunes-library resides in subfolders), and copies them to another folder. It works, but what happens is that it copies the subfolders and their contents AND the individual files separately. I mean that if I copy a folder called XXXX which contains subfolders called ZZZZ and YYYY, which in turn contain files ABCD and 1234, it doesn't copy the folder XXXX, but it does copy the subfolders ZZZZ and YYYY and their contents. All well? Well, no, since it also copies the individual files (ABCD and 1234) to the root of the destination-folder. What I would like to copy the folders in similar way they are in the original folder.
Also, what happens when I reboot my computer? When I log back in, would the folder copy the entire folder-structure all over again? I mean, I log in, the folder-actions runs, and copies the contents of the folder. What I would like it to do is to only copy files over when new files/folders are added.

Jul 1, 2010I burn a cd every month of my documents and photos. My Mac has no problem reading the files from the disc, but my PC seems to only "read" the photos. When I try to read the text files (.doc, .rtf, etc.) I get an "access denied" msg.My Mac is Tiger 10.4.11, WORD is 2004, both fully up to date; everything pretty vanilla. My PC is a senior citizen with W98, and WORD 2000 and is not connected to the Internet.
