MacBook Pro :: It Is Locked Impossible To Reinstall System
Apr 8, 2012 Recently I have uninstalled the system in order to make it run better : big mistake. Now, when I insert the install dvdand push the option key to reinstall the system, the computer is showing a locked padlock with a place to put a password. I have tried all my password even my apple ID one, thinking that may from icloud but it doesn't work.

I have a 2011 iMac running Lion. I have a USB harddrive connected which stores digial versions of all my DVDs so that I can stream them to my AppleTV. Has no issues with it before now. A moment ago my Mac crashed and had to be restarted by holding down the button at the back (first time ever!!). When i turned the thing back on, the drive didn't mount so I went into disk utility and repaired the drive which resulted in it mounting. Â
Here lies the problem, I can access files on my drive in every other folder but the Movies on. See the below video. [URL]

OS X :: Won't Reinstall / After Main System Disk Crash
Sep 30, 2009I want to restore and recover OSX & Logic 8 and the software i use with it (Apogee Maestro,UAD Quad & Waves plug-ins) to a new boot disk. I have both a back up of the main OS drive on a drive with Time Machine and a disk copy of the main drive (on another) as i had it before the boot disk crashed. My question is which is the best option to take when restoring the OS etc? As I have heard that there is a couple of bugs and issues when restoring via Time Machine. Is restoring via the disk copy a simple procedure? Or, should i reinstall everything completely from scratch and copy back the receipts and authorizations perhaps? Can you point me towards the best link/method to get my setup back on track? i'm using an apogee symphony pci card

Feb 28, 2012Â I downloaded Dropbox and the Finder has crashed by blinking with the "restore windows"-window. Then I created another administrator account and from here deleted Dropbox. Then restarted and logged in to my normal account. Now Finder wasn't blinking like before but there is nothing viewable on the Desktop and when I click on Finder in the Dock several times it comes up with a window for a splitsecond then closes the window again. Then I can press it several times again and it comes up for a splitsecond and then closes again. When hitting the command-option-esc, the icon blinks here. I've actually also tried the killall Finder in terminal, but even this doesn't work.

MacBook :: IBook G4 Finder Crash Loop
May 7, 2012I have got an old iBook G4 from a friend how can't fix this problem, and unfortunatly I can't either.
I know this problem is posted here milions of times but I tried everything possible, I just can't fix it.
I don't have an Mac DVD so I can't boot from DVD to repair/reinstall.Â
I have tried:Booting in safe mode - same problem, it's impossible to use the computerBooting in a single user mode - I can use the command line only, but when I but it's still the same problemClearing NVRAMÂ
I can't do anything so I don't know what's installed. I have made a video to describe excatly what's happening - but in short the iBook boots fine, Finder lauches and crashes imidieatly - you can't do anything, it's just stuck in a loop.

Jun 3, 2012Ever since I installed Lion last year on another iMac, and now on my current iMac, whenever I hold down option and click the red close button on a Finder window to close all open windows, the Finder crashes. It doesn't happen every single time, but enough to really make me angry.

OS X Mavericks :: Finder Crash When Opening Any Folder On Desktop
Sep 11, 2014Finder crashes when using any option from the Go menu (or key combo) except Airdrop.
Once Finder window is open on Airdrop any navigation to home folder or any other folder using side bar causes Finder to crash.
Using Go To Folder causes crash, even on hidden folder like /var
Finder is OK when opening files on desktop
All other apps can browse file system and open/save OK
Google Drive is not present on system (this used to be an issue a long time a go that caused similar symptoms in other threads)
Drop Box is installed. But issue occurs even when dropbox is not running
Using spotlight to open applications still works normally.
Clicking the Finder icon in the Dock results in a non-functional blank window entitled "Window", all tool buttons are disabled.
Repeatedly opening the same folder over and over results in the message "The last time you open Finder, it unexpectedly quite while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again? If you choose not to reopen windows, you may have to open and position the windows yourself" Two options "Don't Reopen" and "Reopen". Both buttons have no effect except to dismiss the dialog.
Steps Taken to fix:
Booted into recovery mode and performed repair disk and Permissions - Finder Still Crashes
Removed finder preference files using terminal~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plistÂ
Recent changes to system:iTunes 11.4 Installed with normal Software Update.Â
Possible Cause of Problem
Found app in iTunes that has File Sharing enabled and has a shared folder. Curious as to what was in the folder i dragged it to my desktop and double clicked. Im not sure if iTunes would have had enough time to copy the contents of the folder before i tried to open the folder. Finder crashed. This was the first time it happened.
iPhone app in iTunes that I picked in was "Ubersense".

Jun 17, 2012I have reinstalled my system (via Lion's system restore), reinstalled iTunes, including reseting the library and reimporting media. Same thing. Everything I hit play, or another songs plays at the end of another, the dock & finder relaunches. Everything else is flawless. I have another OS on another drive, for music, which shares the library and it's fine. 10.7.4 OS's & 10.6.3 iTunes.

Applications :: Mail Crash With Large Attachment - Finder Super Slow
Apr 22, 2007I'm happily using my new 24" iMac, but I've run across a little problem this evening. I was trying to send a 225mb file as a mail attachment through my Gmail account using Mail. When I go to send the file, Mail crashes and disappears. This happened a couple times, so I logged directly into Gmail and sent the file through the web browser. Now the system is hung up 'sending' in the Gmail browser, and Finder has become very sluggish (slow response to clicks, errors printing, etc). Can the iMac and/or Mail handle sending files of this size?

Dec 6, 2014My external Hard Drive (Western Digital 2TB hard drive in a ICYBOX 2-bay USB 2.0 HD Dock) won't transfer files to the Mac HD. The transfer box comes up but stays at the 'estimating time' stage and remains like that. No matter how big the file/group of files are (biggest I've tried was only 500-odd MB) it won't transfer and stays at the 'estimating time' stage. When I try and stop the transfer, the transfer box remains at the 'stopping' stage until I restart the iMac. I can access other programs during this 'stopping' stage, as long as it doesn't involve the External HD.Â
When I attempt to open files from the External HD in Photoshop CS4, both Photoshop and Finder stop responding and have I have to 'Force Quit'. However, upon force quitting finder, I loose all icons on the desktop until I restart the Mac via holding down the 'Power' button on the back.Â
Ive already done a couple things.Â
- I excluded the Ext HD on the Spotlight>Privacy tab.Â
- I verified the Ext HD via System Utilities. Some errors came up but the Repair was successful and subsequent Verifications have returned as 'OK'.Â
- I tried the Mac Diagnostic tool as suggested by Apple, but when I press the 'D' key on start up nothing happens.Â
The annoying thing is that this problem came out of the blue, the Ext HD was working fine 3 days ago.Â

Sep 9, 2009Just after my warranty expired I developed what I suspect will be an expensive problem. Upon awakening from sleep my computer cannot recognize the internal HD. I total freeze. If I power down & reboot everything works. If I boot the computer from an external HD clone of my internal HD a can put the computer to sleep and wake up without a problem EXCEPT:When I do this the computer removes the internal HD icon from the desktop and Iget a dialog box informing me that the internal HD was improperly disconnected.

Feb 15, 2008After upgrading to 10.5.2, I have found that it is impossible to launch iSync, from either the dock or the Applications folder. iSync will do one bounce on the dock, and no more, then disappear. I have repaired permissions by booting up with the Leopard disc. I have created another account and logged into that account.
Here's where it gets interesting. Only users without my account name can run iSync! I can create as many permutations of users, and they can all run the application, but as soon as a user has MY name as an account name, I can't launch iSync! iSync refuses to launch on any account with my name What the heck?! Does it know me by name? Ihave a Macbook 2.0 CD2. I am running standard Mac OS X 10.5 + iLife '08 + iWork '08.

IMac :: I7 Mouse Cursor Jumpy And Impossible To Control
Dec 14, 2009My i7 iMac arrived today with no screen issues and no major problems at all (after scouring the forums the past few weeks, I was a nervous wreck waiting for it). I ordered on Black Friday and believe I have one of the most recent batches with, I cross-my-fingers hope, none of the screen problems that have been reported. However, I am about to gouge my eyes out because of a blasted erratic mouse issue in OSX. I am using a Razer Naga (though it is still a problem with every other mouse I hook up) and regardless of the settings, the cursor is jumpy and impossible to control at times.
I am Bootcamp running Win7 64 and have zero mouse issues on that side of the computer. Its only when I boot into OSX that I have the mouse problems. I have tried the Naga drivers and two USB/Mouse shareware apps, all to no avail. Otherwise, the iMac runs like a dream. In WoW with Ultimate Settings I get 50 fps in Dalaran and 120+ out flying in the world. LotRO runs great as well -- with the recommended settings I am at around 60 fps at all times, even standing at the Prancing Pony in Bree.
