I have a previous gen MacBook Pro (3-4 years old). I think it's 15 inch one. It had Snow Leopard installed until yesterday when I upgraded to Lion. It went smoothly, I downloaded it from the app store and followed it through. Then when I was installing iCloud it told me that I needed to upgrade iPhoto. So I went to the app store and bought the iPhoto and began downloading it. It was late so I just left the notebook plugged in overnight to do the download.Â
So this morning I tried to use this computer and it doesn't seem to respond at all. The screen is black and I can't wake it up. how can I get it back to a working condition?
My apple keyboard is not recognized by my laptop anymore. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC to no avail. The keyboard is almost brand new so I doubt it's broken... how to troubleshoot this?Â

if I like to upgrade to Lion - do I really have to buy Leopard as well as Lion - only to install Lion?I bought Leopard already and thought I could upgrade easily and free to Lion. Actually I have installed Leopard 10.6.8 and now it seams that I have to buy Lion to be able to upgrade.
View 7 Replies View RelatedCurrently I have an iMac 10.5.8 with an Intel Core 2 Duo and 2Go Ram. Since January I didn't had much system updates because my software is apparently too old ... And I am kind of paranoid about the Trojans that I might have because I use the old version plus Safari is getting blocked very often. So I decided to by first Snow Leopard and then Lion. The thing is that I live in Norway & I will have to use the Norwegian apple store to by those programs but my OS X is in French. So I was wondering if I will be able to choose my language or the whole system will be automatically in Norwegian? The second question is to know if it is difficult to upgrade? I am a Mac user because I don't have any clues about the computers and Mac is always working. I read some complaints from people who after installing Snow Leopard couldn't use properly their printers or other apps... Is there is something I (completely ignorant person) should be aware of before doing the upgrade? Â

I received the Snow Leopard upgrade disc from Apple. The instructions read to simply upgrade to SL version 10.6.8 after running the installation disc, and then to purchase the Lion upgrade from the Mac App. However, this SL version seems to be 10.5.8, and none of the 10.6.8 or lower updates will work. I found a 10.6.1, but that won't install either. They all say that I need OS 10.6 and I can't find it. I have a 2009 iMac with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Is it possible for me to put a 1g memory stick in my PowerBook 12inch 867mhz? The reason why I'm asking this, is because when you check the apple store, the maximum memory is 512mb. But if you check elsewhere, you can buy the 1g stick. Some places says that the computer will recognize only 512mb, even if you put the 1g.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Time Machine 1.2 which worked perfectly on my old iMac OSX. A few months ago I purchased a new iMac which came with Snow Leopard, and it worked well. But when Apple came to upgrade me to Lion, the Time Machine no longer works.  Is it not compatible with Lion??Â
At one stage I was told there was no room on the disk. I then tried to delete most of the previous backups, leaving only a handful of backups - but still no luck. I think I might have messed up things by then trying to edit the "do not back up" list. I tried to exclude some programmes applications , and now I am told there are no disks available to be backed up.
It is not very clear on the "options" screen, what one should do. What does the + and - indicate, and is it necessary to remove any files at all if I want a simple regular backup procedure on my home computer.
Lastly - if I wanted to uninstall and reinstall the Time Machine - is there a procedure?? I can't find one.

I am running the 27" iMac with dual hard drives and have recently upgraded to Lion. Two things are happening.
1. On cold start / boot up, my system has no sound. And by no sound I mean - no sound. When I go to the Sound option in System Preferences, everything is greyed out and I can not adjust or access any of the controls. The only solution has been to immediately restart my computer. After restart, everything is fine.
2. On cold start / boot up, sometimes I receive a pop up telling me that TestGen is not installed properly and to please re-start. Of course, since I have no sound I'm automatically doing that.
Lastly, and I'm not adding this to the list because there is already a thread about it . . but I will mention it I am getting error messages trying to play certain videos "This video requires Quicktime which is not supported by this version of iTunes."The workaround is that you apparently have to delete the video from your Library -- DO NOT DELETE FILE FROM HARD DRIVE -- and re-add to your Library.

I am looking into upgrading my PBG4 1.33 to a NEW (updated) white macbook.
My question is regarding upgrading the memory & harddrive. iFixit makes the changeout of these items look incredibly easy. Is it? (i am by no means a fix-my-own-computer person, but I did recently replace memory and harddrive in my PBG4, and that was much more involved than what it looks like this process would be) I can get a 320G 7200 HD on ebay for under $60! Add in the RAM from ebay, and you are looking at upgrading the $999 macbook for under $100 - Apple charges nearly $300 for these upgrades, and it is a 5200 HD!
Am I missing something? Can I really put the 7200 HD in the new macbook? Is it really as easy to replace as it looks?
I upgraded my system to Safari 5 from the file. I was not connected to the Internet at this point but decided to check the new browser, and was surprised to see how fast Safari occupied all available memory. The system was very irresponsive. Closing Safari solved the problem. This problem can easily be repeated. Can somebody confirm this? I have SL on MBP.

I purchased the Snow Leopard DVD and installed with success. I went to purchase Lion through the App store and received a message.
"Lion needs at least 2 BG of memory to download" There is only 1GB of memory left. Can I "trash/dump" something? If so, HOW??

In prep for moving to the "Cloud", I downloaded Lion last night without the knowledge that my 2005 version of Office would no longer be supported. Silly me, now I need to either switch to IWORKS or something else, immediately, so I can get back to work. If I download IWORKS or LIBRE will I be able to open my OFFICE files that are already on my computer?

BUT.. I just doubled my RAM from 1 to 2 gigs. After a fresh boot and loading up Safari, Firefox, and iPhoto, and then CLOSING all of them and running no apps, Leopard shows more than a gig of ACTIVE memory, which even after sitting there for an hour doing nothing - does NOT go over to the INactive section. Why? I'm not asking why it doesn't go to "free". I know why.
My top command output:
PhysMem: 240M wired, 1006M active, 307M inactive, 1559M used, 489M free.
VM: 5579M + 374M 276396(0) pageins, 61(0) pageouts
I bought this in sept. of 08. The 24'' 2.8 ghz interl core 2 duoMy mac came with 2gig 800 hmz DDR2 SDRAM. what are good places to upgrade to 4 gigs. I have $200 in amazon gift cards, so that seem to be the front running. Do I need a certain brand or will any brand work as long as its ddr2 sdram?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe new Mac Pro only has 2GB of memory, and I'm going to need to up this for running FCS2 to a min. of 8GB.I was thinking about buying 2 x 4GB modules, but it appears that one 3rd party seller are advertising low density memory as being a selling point. Is this really a selling point, or will it make no difference? Should I just be choosing my 4GB modules on price and nothing else?

hi all, I have a mac os 10.5.6 and a windows xp home ed in my home network. The mac seems to copy and paste without a problem with my windows 2000 pc. I can't place the backed up files in a different folder either?
