My iMac suddenly won't boot up. It stays black and simply beeps. Holding the start button shuts it down. It's about 3 1/2 yrs old, but has been well-maintained.

When I try to boot to a cd in an old imac it simply ejects the cd and boots up to 10.4. I tried holding down c and changing the startup.

i wanna boot from USB but i just hear 3 beeps .. Ive done some research about the beeps and it seems like 3 beeps is a sign off something wrong with the RAM .. but the funny thing is what i can boot up normally and there is no problem, Lion starts up with no problem other than that is to slow. I used the Carbon Copy Cloner to get my Snow Leopard Install down to the USB.. Maybe something isn't right ? Â

Last night I got a MSG on the screen indicating that I needed to restart. Now my Mac won't boot, I get two beeps before. It gets to the Apple logo. I tried booting from the OSX disk, same results.

my Macbook Pro doesn't boot after updating the EFI, I just updated and restarted as it says in the description of the update and then it does not boot, making 4 short beeps and then 4 longer, I don't know what's happening. I bought 2x4GB modules of RAM from OWC for my 2009 27" i7 iMac. Following the video on OWC for replacing the memory, I opened the RAM tray / area at the bottom of it, and there were two RAM modules in it, one on each side (2x2GB), I moved the 2GB module on the left over to the right side, and inserted 2 4GB modules into the left tray, reattached the metal panel / strip and booted up and it beeps :/
View 8 Replies View RelatedLoaded pics up for the 1st time from my 7d into Aperture 1.5 and left my computer on, woke up and it wouldn't come out of sleep. I did a hard shutdown holding down the power button and the screen just stays black and I never hear the chime, light on power button is solid white. Since I'm on vacation with my wife and infant daughter I don't have time to mess around troubleshooting but see it may be a failed logic board? Do they just fail randomly or what? My aunt that I'm staying with turned off a surge protector a light was plugged into, I was using her power charger for her MacBook Pro and only this morning found out it was plugged directly into the outlet below the surge protector was on that she flipped off.
Could that have created a surge on the other plug or something? She does this all the time with her MacBook Pro plugged in and its never created a problem, I'm writing this post from her computer right now! (Only brought the Mac out because my iPad wouldn't load the photos for some reason, don't know if it has something to do with the HD video or because I also had photos from my Canon 50d on there or if that has something to do with my Mac's problem?) I've attempted an SMC restart and it does the same thing? I'm now extremely stressed thinking I may have lost all my pics that I haven't backed up in months of my infant daughter. When I start it up I hear an initial sound of a hardrive spin or fan but then its basically silent.
When I hit the power button it gets stuck in the Apple. Being that I have an older powerbook g4 I would need a way to get to the first aid application for a command prompt or an original 10.4 disk which I don't have.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just bought a powerbook, and I'm trying to get it to turn on. It doesn't have a hard drive, so obviously it won't be able to get it to boot. I just want to be able to get to the flashing folder. When I press the power button, the computer does nothing, not even the fan spins. The only indication I have that it is on is the caps lock light turns on. I've tried resetting the pram, but the screen stays blank and does nothing. I don't have any ram modules in it, so it shouldn't be a ram problem.

i tried turning on my iMac an hour ago and it whirred up with a black screen while beeping continuously, each beep an equal distance apart. I tried counting the beeps a few times and they don't seem to stop (I counted up to about 30 before i decided to stop, they kept going!)
I've read a few forum posts, and other things related on the internet, but no-one has a problem with continuous beeping. I don't know how to open up my mac book and replace RAM, or anything of the sorts.
I recently bought a used 2009 iMac. I erased the disc and started fresh. If I do not shut the computer down every night, right around midnight, the computer plays 5 or 6 beeps (kind of a little song of beeps). It's always the same sound. I've poked around System Preferences and do not see any alarms set in there. I have also made sure that iCal does not have any alarms set up to play at midnight.
A little more info about the iMac. It pretty much has nothing on it. I added Microsoft Office and that is it. I bought it so I can move some of my music over and get myself under 25,000 songs on my main computer (so I can use iTunes Match). Other than Microsoft Office I have not added any other programs onto the computer.

I turned my iMac on (2008 model) but after 10 minutes it went black and beeped 3 times loudly, repeating at 5 second cycles. Shut it down by pressing the ON button for 5 sec. Restarted and all worked for a hour before repeating the same problem...screen and keyboard and touchpad all locked out....shut down with the ON button. On restart it gave me the 3 beeps every 5 sec with an ALL BLACK screen...no hard disk whirring, either. I don't know how to do cardiac massage on an iMac. Is it dead? Is it the processor? Is it the video card? Is it the hard disc?Â

This 5 year old iMac makes the seek optical drive sound when switched on, but does not chime, but I can hear the hard drive going afterwards.
The screen just stays black, not a flicker.
The problem is that it is located in a small pretty isolated town in NE Brazil, I will be going back out there later in the summer so if anyone has any helpful ideas it would be most welcome. Fortunately we have a full CCC clone of the hard drive and a working MBP so we haven't lost anything, but it would be very good to have it working again.
Does it have a socket for an external monitor, I really cannot remember, as I have not seen it since November, I know the old round iMacs had one.
The nearest Mac store is probably in Rio or Sao Paulo which are a good day travelling by car and plane so there is no chance of getting it there.

The latest iMac model. When I click on the power button: I can hear the Hard disk and the DVD drive spin up. The screen stays black. The startup sounds plays half way through the first time, like its being cut off. After the first startup chime has been cut, the chime keeps playing in a loop. The computer doesn't come any further than that.
I have tried: Unplugging all peripherals, with the same result.
SMC reset: Unplug power cord and hold power button for 5 sec. PRAM reset...
It seems like the computer does not even get to boot and ignores all keyboard input. I also tried booting from the DVD drive with the installation disk. But I can't get any further than the repeating startup chimes.
Ok so my macbook just froze up on me, and I shut it off manually. However, when I tried to start it back up it would not boot up. I am just receiving a message telling me " You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button. "I did what the message told me to do, and when I started the computer back up I just received the same exact message. I tried to take the battery out and hold down the power button to discharge any electricity in the laptop, and then I plugged in the power cable with the battery still out, and I am still receiving the same error message.I have tried the same process a couple of times and put the battery back in and then I decided to try inserting the Installation DVD, and it did nothing different then what I have been getting.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 2006(ish) Intel core 2duo 2.16 mhz 20" imac wont start up, it only stays at the loading screen, how can I fix this? I have tried:
• safe mode reboot
• restart using p, r , command and option (resetting the pram)
• restart using the original Mac OS 10.4 disc
• restart so I get the image of the HD but I can't click on it to continue and restart again!    • single user mode (CMD+s keys at bootup, and then /sbin/fsck -fy)Â
It just doesn't do anything else than display the grey screen, the apple and the spinning wheel (sometime, I do get a scrolling bar also!). I managed to perform a hardware test from the Mac OS disc and there seems to be no hardware problem. Nothing works.It stays stuck on the grey screen, with the apple and the wheel turning endlessly.Â
