I have a WD External 3TB HDD,for some reason it has the sharing and permissions set to 'You can only read', and file format is NTFS.I want change this to read and write.

This is my first question here, my imac (mid 2010 core i3) wont read any usb devices, flash drives,nokia mass storage,WD external hard drives or anything else!EXEPT for my iphone and my ipod which seems to work perfectly even tho the cable is half torn! But everything works fine on my windows partition on bootcamp,its able to read and write every usb device..i have the latest version of snow leopard 10.6.8 problem is only on mac osx partition ive checked disk utility and "about this mac>more info> USB,nothng shows up i did that NVram reset with commandoptPR but nothing can fix the usb problem!!

My computer Intel Corei7(2009), running 10.6.8 with OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H drive, shows the disk as a blank disk (even in disk utility). Other older Macs available to me read the disk just fine. current disk that cannot be read: recordable memorex dvd-r?

UDF-formatted CD
A friend gave me a CD of photos to look at. It mounted on the iMac desktop but was blank, although it had zero space available. I ran Disk Utility. It reported that the CD needed to be repaired. I then inserted it into my ancient Mini and the photos showed up, no problem.
Disk Utility is saying "Invalid Number of Allocation Blocks."

Tried zapping PRAM and resetting SMC. 3 different cards, 3 different readers with same non-read. Same readers are OK with SD. All 3 readers with all 3 cards read ok on PC. 1 out of 10 times Disk Util sees it, but can't repair. Tried to reformat with Disk Util - 'can't write last block'.

I have been able to import the old SD versions, using the port on the side of my keyboard. The same reader does not work with the new SDHC card.

the external SuperDrive on my iMAC does not read some of my music CDs. While the majority runs without any problems, quite a few cannot be read, although they work without any problems on my HiFi and on other CD Drives. All Software is up to date and the Drive is just a few months old.

The drive in my G5 tower will read/write commercial or blank CDs and will read/write blank DVDs, however, it will not read most commercial DVDs. When I insert them it tries to read it then after a few seconds it just spits them back out. Occasionally commercial DVDs will read and mount fine, but this seems to be rare.

I just switched from Snow leopard to Lion and i don't like the way that Lion has the mail preview set up as a 3 column vertical format. I thought in Snow Leopard you could change the set-up so it's either horizontal or vertical, but I can't seem to find that option in Lion. I want to have the list of my email messages in the top, horizontal window and the preview of the selected message in a horizontal window below. Am I missing this option to change the view format from vertical to horizontal somewhere?

It reads commercial CD's fine but any CDR shows up as a blank CD. This happens with multiple brands and the CDR's play in a car stereo and are read by other computers. I can burn blank CDR's just fine. The problem is recognizing the content once they have been burned. I have seen this issue posted as far back as 2008 on some boards but no solutions other than replace the superdrive. I find it hard to believe that I would have a bad drive already given Apple's reputation for great products and the age of my computer especially since the warranty just expired in October.

They have no in-built readers so I have tried as follow - 3 different USB external card readers (1 plug-in and 2 cabled), 2 different cables, 4 different cards (2 of each), and all of their combinations on all USB ports on both computers. All to no avail. Cards won't show neither on desktop, Finder, Disc Utility nor Image Capture. Â Mind you though, SDHC card will be seen by iPhoto (and iPhoto only) if it's plugged directly through the camera or printer/ scanner. Only it's a bit annoying process having to use it just to read the card! Not to mention the use of iPhoto (which I don't, normally) just to transfer images through it to their destination. I work with a lot of images, videos and music, and not having been able to transfer them smoothly makes my work a bit of a nightmare.Â
