A friend gave me a CD of photos to look at. It mounted on the iMac desktop but was blank, although it had zero space available. I ran Disk Utility. It reported that the CD needed to be repaired. I then inserted it into my ancient Mini and the photos showed up, no problem.

My mac mini cant read DVD movies but can read Burned CD and Installers. I tried the DVD's with my macbook but works just fine. tried burning some files and it works as well. what do i need to do to fix my problem? do i need to update something or download some programs?

While the majority runs without any problems, quite a few cannot be read, although they work without any problems on my HiFi and on other CD Drives. All Software is up to date and the Drive is just a few months old.

My iMac mid 2011 does not read the SD Card. In 'System Info' the info abou card reading device tells: 'This computer does not have integrated Apple card reading devices' (something like that, my OS is in Russian).
Worked great a couple of weeks ago, now I have that issue. Is there a way to fix that without changing my iMac's elements?

My iMac desktop will not read music CD's with its superdrive. It will burn CD's. Is this a software problem? It is an iMac 8,1 with original superdrive. I have tried working with permissions and hard drive repair.

So I need to transfer my user from my current powerbook g4 (which I will sadly miss) to the new mac. I wondered whether going from PowerPC to Intel what the best way to go is.
Should I totally trust the migration assistant, even though I know I have things on the powerbook which aren't intel, or should I take an opportunity to build a new machine, pulling in my documents and downloads folders, and then redownloading things I actually use and setting them up from scratch? Does anyone know the options which Migration Assistant gives you (ie basic information, all document, all applications, ... etc), or is it just all or none.
For mail I have everything on IMAP, I think I want to just set up a new account and re-import everything. That sound right?
I need to deauthorize iTunes from this machine, I'm up to 4 in the house already.
My temptation is to build from scratch and lose 4 years of cruft, however I'm sure I've also customized things in the past (like AFP mounts) which I no longer quite remember what they were.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Mac OS 10.5.8 on a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. When I first got this machine, I basically transferred everything from my old computer to the new. One product which I accidentally included was an ancient version of Microsoft Office v.X. Yeah, it is so old that Microsoft doesn't even support it.
Anyway, my thought was that I would use Apple's iWork since I'm not really using it for a business application anymore. But recently my husband bought me Office:mac 2008 and I would like to install it.
First though, I would like to get rid of the old Office program and all its component parts. I looked to see if the install disk had an uninstall program with it; but, guess what? Not. So, I'm hoping somebody here can suggest a way to clean my computer of all the Microsoft Office components.

Yesterday I tried to reinstall Snow Leopard on my Mac mini 2009. When I inserted SL DVD (get one with mini) mini doesn't seemed to recognized it. It just loads and spin it few minutes and eject it after 2-3 min. Also no DVD option in "Startup disk" menu.
I was 99% that my SL DVD was corrupted (too scratched) and buy new Retail version in Apple store. When I came home and try to load Retail DVD I have the same issues.
I tried my friend's SL DVD and his copy loads with no problem at all. I just cannot install SL because DVD wasn't retail.
Here's an interesting problem.
I've got *some* DVD and CD backups that I've made on a PowerBook G4 and an iBook G4. They work fine on the laptops, however when I pop the discs into my intel mac mini the disc comes up as blank and I am prompted to tell the computer what I want to do with it. The discs are not blank.
Other discs (commercial and DVD/CD backup discs) work fine on the mini.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this? (Discs are CD-R and DVD-R, not RWs or +R)

I also began to smell something burning from the rear ventilation ports. Now when I press the power button, it lights up for a brief moment then the burning smell returns.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new Mac Mini today (latest base version from Apple Store). I also purchased an LG 2240 (LED backlit) 22" monitor.
The monitor only has a VGA connection therefore I am using the VGA>Mini Display port converter from apple.
The monitor is generally working fine however the display / quality is very grainy, making the text very hard to read. Also although the text is crisp and jagged in quality.
Is there any way to upgrade my DVD player to read HD DVDs?

It seems the controller is good and is seeing the DVD drive, but it just won't read anything included DVD movies and CDs that I bought off the shelf.
I am trying to upgrade my Dad's mac mini to Snow Leopard and have encountered a problem. When I insert the Leopard disk I cannot get it to read the disk, the box comes up as if I have inserted a blank DVD. I have also tried inserting ilfe09 disk and have the same problem. The drive does appear to be making an odd bleaping. I have tried resetting the PRAM and cannot get it to bleap?

My camcorder only came with cord for playback on TV and the power cord, but nothing for the computer, especially a Mac. The manual refers to a Dv cable (hURL....) and says "When using a DV cable, be sure to use the optional JVC VC-VDV206U or VC-VDV204U DV cable depending on the type of DV connector (4 or 6 pins) on the PC". Currently running Mavericks with Thunderbolt and a FireWire 800 port.

I understand that if you want to use a format that works on both windows and mac then you cant have files bigger than 4gb. I have all my music, videos, pictures and such from my old computer stored on an external harddrive and I have files bigger than 4gb so I guess the mac mini wont be able to read this harddrive. Is there anything I can do? I wanna get all my files from my current computer transfered to the mac mini. Secondly, whats the best TV software & hardware for the Mac Mini? Ive looked at Elgatos EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV Plus 250 or whatever. I have a satellite dish, and 90% of the channels are analogue, so I need the best for analogue (and digital as well) TV.

my mum has a mac mini core solo 1.5ghz. those cannot read the dual layer dvd discs so therefore i cannot upgrade the leopard to snow leopard directly. is there any other way i can do it? i checked to see if remote install was on the mac mini but it dosent come with it so anyone have any tips?
