Intel Mac :: Unable To Create “filename.dmg” (error -60008)
May 22, 2012
I’ve used Disk Utilities awesome capabilities many times, but am now running into my first real problem. I am trying to create a 100 GB new blank disk image, using the “Mac OS Extended (Journaled) option for format, 256-bit AES encryption, a single partition-Apple Partition Map, and Image Format as read/write disk image. When I implement this, it asks for the AES password then repeatedly crashes, albeit in slightly different ways each time. The most informative was a Unable to create “filename.dmg” (error -60008) message. I can’t find anything explanatory about this in Google I’m wondering if this has something to do with my upgrade to Lion (OS 10.7.4) yesterday from Snow Leopard. This error occurs on both my home and work iMacs. It seems to reliably occur about 1/2 way through typing in my password. The error occurs whether I use 128 or 256 AES encryption. There is more than adequate space on the hard drive I am attempting to place this image on. Disk Utility is version 12.1.1 (353) and all is running on a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac.
I literally cannot install anything. For example I download the adobe flash installer and when I open the .dmg file I get to the point where it says choose Macintosh HD and then install. I click on Macintosh HD and then install and it doesn't do anything. I also cannot install from a cd/dvd. I do regular updates and am using OS X 10.6.2. I also reinstalled OS X with no luck, used Pacifist and got an error 60008 when I try to export any file from cd 1.
I cannot install anything, therefore I tried to use Pacifist but whenever I try to export anything I get the error -60008. I also get this same error number when I tried to remove something from my applications. I cannot even create a new user account to see if the problem persists there. It is all grayed out. Also, whenever I move my cache to trash I get the error: The operation cannot be completed because the following error occurred -60008
I'm using Mac OS X 10.6 I also do not have Installer.app only the Adobe Installer. I have no idea how this may have been deleted though. When I go to repair disk permissions using disk utility I get this one message: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired. I suspect this is the problem, how can I sort it out?
I am trying to create a new image .. and my hard drive is not listed on the left hand panel .. the other night it worked fine except it would keep locking up so i did a disc repair and then restarted when i did a restart to prepare for a fresh install i noticed my hard drive was no longer in the disc utlitity not sure why that is.. Now the Snow leopard disc is stuck in the drive and I am unable to eject the disc tried almost every ejection command there is nothing .. isnt there a way to mount the hard drive through the terminal?
trying to back up my iphoto files but I get an error message "unable to create file on desktop" thought I might be out of room on the hard disk but I have 35 gig left on a 160gig hard drive?
Here on my office we have 3 macs, 1 wireless router and 1 gigabit lan switch. My wireless router only have 100mbps ports and I need a little more speed on my network. So I want to use my wireless router only as internet via Airport and my gigabit lan as file sharing via gigabit connection. I can disable the network features on my wireless router so the macs can't see each other on the wireless connection. The problem is that i can't make them work on the gigabit switch. I need to put some static ips on the macs and I don't know what to put on the default gateway because the gigabit switch doesn't have an IP, its a SWITCH 08P 10/100/1000 D-LINK DGS-1008D. what ips and gateways should I put on my network connection? PS: I tried putting my wireless router via cable on my gigabit switch but it limited my gigabit switch to 100mbps and started to slow my network traffic.

Just returned from the apple store. They can't explain what happened but there is a FileVault error and it cant be fixed. We now have a parallel login but no software or files are on it. The tech at the store suggested someone who may be able to get into the FileVault. This just suddenly happened with no forewarning. The iMac is under a year old.
Step-father, a PC user, installed new hard drive on Late-2006 Intel iMac, unable to install new software, receiving error: "The Installer could not install some files in"/". Contact the software manufacturer for assistance"Disk Repair grayed out in Disk Utilities, can't start up to external drive while holding "Option" during restart, or while holding "T", so I cannot ungray out the Disk Repair optionRan "Repair Disk Permissions" receiving "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit." without only two lines of text between "Repairing permissions for" and the error (I hear it's normal to have a lot more than two lines)Do not have an install disk to boot from, and therefore none to archive and install from.Ran "ls -ld /{,Library{,/Receipts{,/db{,a.receiptdb}}}}" in Terminal, with output "ls: /Library/ Receipts/dba.receiptdb: No such file or directorydrwxrwxr-t 56 root admin 1972 Mar 24 18:01 /drwxrwxr-t+ 60 root admin 2040 Mar 24 16:07 /Librarydrwxrwxr-x 280 root admin 9520 Apr 6 16:35 /Library/Receiptsdrwxr-xr-x 3 root admin 102 Mar 11 19:39 /Library/Receipts/db"
After pressing the iPhoto icon, the software seems to be turning on but later an error message appears and I am unable to access iPhoto. I tried moving the .plist for iPhoto to Trash but this did not work.
I'm trying to empty the trash on my iMac (running Snow Leopard) but I just get an error message: The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code - 8003).
iMAC with OSX10.9.4 ; 8GB ram ; two partitions external disk formatted MAC jurnaled ; connected via Fire Wire or USB2 .
During Backup the sistem get stack and display into the "details window" Time machine was unable to complete the backup because unable to complete the backup folder.
This problem happens with USB and Fire Wire. The file backups.backupdb is excluded from virus scanning.
Also happens time to time that (without doing things) both the partitions of the external disk disappaire from the desk-top and a message "the disk must be ejected properly" is displayed.
This two problems are independent une to the other. I have change the backup disk but both the problems persist.

After my macbook hard drive kindly failed on me, I ordered a new Seagate Momentus 5400.5, 320gb hard drive. I popped that sucker in this afternoon and began to start up my macbook with the OS X disc 1. Everything was going smoothly, except that it can't find the hard drive. It is recognized under my disk utility, but when I click to partition it, select options, select GUID, click 'OK', I can neither Name it 'Macintosh HD' or do anything else.
I can't proceed with anything because when it asks me to select a HD, the HD does not show up. Again, everything works except that the hard drive is not found. I pulled the hard drive out. Made sure the screws were alright. Made sure everything was all snuggly, and yet it still won't work.
I have a brand new MBP. I have a 1tb external drive with 250gb's of music. I have it attached to my mac via USB. I CANNOT GET ITUNES TO CREATE A NEW LIBRARY ON THE EXTERNAL DRIVE. I CANNOT DRAG AND DROP OR ADD FILE/FOLDER.
But get this, I hook it up to my old Dell and I can do whatever I want. I am friggin pissed that I spent all this money on Mac equip and can't get it going. You may have seen my other post where I posed my issue of: 1tb ethernet drive hooked to airport extreme. Above mentioned 1tb hooked up to back of it via usb. I am completely unable to copy, move, or add files using my mac. But guess what. my pc handles it easily and quickly.

Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL I just started to receive this message, when I try to go to this one website. What caused this? and how can I fix this problem? I an geet to website using other browsers.
After updating to Lion server, I moved my Drobo over and setup Time Machine
Many users are prompeted to reuse or create a new backup.
The problem is I log in with credentials of 'USER A', and on the dialog it lists another 'USER B', userb.sparsebundle as the file to reuse.
I recently had a iMac hard drive die, and i tired to use the time machine on the server, with 'USER A' credentials, i got 4 listings and none of them were 'USER A'
I check the drobo and 'USER A''s sparsebundle is there. I have tried changeing permissions to read the sparsebudle, but the bundle is a 250k file, not a diskimage of the files even.
How do i resolve this problem of the wrong users coming up on "reuse or create new backup"?
How do i access the lost sparsebundle that i cannot log into to get the files for the user that needs them?
I have a Lacie 1TB external drive. I'm trying to create another partition on it using Disk Utility so that I can use one of the partitions for Time Machine. When I go to add another partition, or even just resize the existing one, I get an error saying drive must be HPFS+ with Journaling enabled. It is. I've seen reference to this error in searches, but have not found a solution. Is there a fix for this, or another tool that I can use to re-partition my drive without wiping out existing partition? I have about 450GB worth of data on the drive that I might be able to store somewhere else temporarily, I would just prefer not to have to go through that....
I have been unable to create an open directory replica from an open directory master.I have created an open directory master in Mavericks and added DNS, file sharing and users etc. I can connect, log in, all is good.I now want to create a replica on another machine for redundancy, yet I have been unable to do so. I have been able to diagnose through the terminal on each machine and get no errors except the following from the intended replica machine: Both Machines are Mac Mini servers, raided drives.
Replica has 8Gb RAM, Master has 16Gb macsvr1:~ admin$ sudo /usr/sbin/slapconfig -preflightreplica 192.168.0.11 diradmin+0000 Error; Unable to determine the master’s software version The rest of the terminal looks like this. Open Directory Master Primary address = 192.168.0.10
[Code] .......
I can verify each machine version and all DNS is fine. Both machines are in identical OS systems. 10.9.4 Server 3.1.2. Network is good as I can ping each machine from the other. ssh is enabled on both yet still i'm unable to create a replica.
I am receiving an error 5.5.4 "Invalid Email address error code 17099 indicating that mail could not be sent for Account name: "Msn".I have recently moved from a PC laptop and have been sent email messages to this account on my iMac successfully for several weeks. The email address in question is actively sending and receiving messages. I can receive email from that account.
I have one unique partition and i will create another to use with bootcamp. After create the bootcamp partition i can make another for my data without damage the bootcamp partition right? I am asking because bootcamp assistant only work wit unique partition and i need 3 in total.
We have ordered and installed FCP X .....except on 2 machines we are unable to create new libraries. When I click on File, it only gives us options to create a New Project or New Event.
I'm trying to back up my new iMac to an older time capsule. But it just won't do it. The error reads: "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder".
I want to create a symbolic link of my MobileSync Backup folder on my boot drive. That folder contains my iphone and ipad bckups and its getting large. I want to move it off my SSD.
I'm using SymbolicLinker plugin to do so. I can easily make the symbolic link but I dont understand the proper way to move it. Do I move the symbolic link to the drive I want it to be stored on or do I move the symbolic link to the SSD where I dont want the data stored?
I have a Mac Mini and on the internal drive I have Snow Leopard installed on the first partition and I'd like to install Snow Leopard Server on the same drive on another partition (I'm new to Mac, this is my only machine and my only drive, and this is only for testing purposes, so don't bother with stupid questions about why etc).
The problem I have is that I can't seem to create the necessary partition in Disk Utility. I have shrinken the Snow Leopard partition to get some free space and I've created a second partition for Server but for some reason I can't choose the options button to select GUID. The button is grayed out, see attached image.
What am I doing wrong? Or is it not possible to have two OS partitions on the same internal drive?
I'm trying to create a Boot Camp partition but I'm unable to make one large enough. Using the Book Camp disk tool, I'm not able to create a partition larger than 68GB.
When I open disk utility, it shows me that ~250GB are used as a startup partition. Is this standard for Lion? My hard drive shows ~203GB free so space shouldn't be an issue. The disc utility tells me the startup partition cannot be resized, locking up the ~250GB so I'm unable to do anything.
Is there a way to resize this startup partition or is my only option getting a larger hard drive. My goal was to make ~100GB partition for Windows and Boot Camp. I used debug in disc utility to look at any hidden partitions but they only amounted to ~250MB, not effecting much.
I have an older Mac Mini (Mid 2007, Core 2 Duo) running Lion. I am trying to create a computer-to-computer network, but I keep getting the message "Connection Failed".Futhermore, in the window "Create computer-to-computer network" the pull-down for "Channel" is blank. I have successfully done this on other Macs. Is there some hardware limitation on this old of a Mac mini that won't allow this to be done I can't find anything stating this anywhere.
When I try to create a camera archive from the card a videographer gave me I see that the archive grows to the expected size but then I get a message saying "Unable to create camera archive". Here is what the card looks like with all its folders open:
Here is the Inspector from one of the files on the card:
Here is how Final Cut sees the card from the import window:
I also imported the files without making a camera archive. In that case Final Cut copied all of the files, not letting me choose the option to leave the files in place. I am able to use the files so copied, except the audio is missing in the final frame of each clip, an example of which you can see below. There is a video image in the final frame and it is different from the one before it and the one after it.
I've also tried to process the files with ClipWrap but ClipWrap does not allow me to drag anything from the card onto its clip window. Why does Final Cut fail to create an archive?
Is there any better way to import the files than the way that led to the missing frame of audio on the end of each clip?
