Intel Mac :: Transfer To New With SSD Drive?
May 24, 2012
I'm awaiting my new iMac (should come today!) I've opted for an SSD drive and an ATA drive. Should I re-install all my applications to the new SSD drive rather than using the migrate to a new computer feature I've used in the past?

I have a G5 PowerMac from 2004 (I can provide more details about the machine if it's necessary), that has essentially broken down and I do not currently have the money to fix it. A friend of mine has a brand new Intel Mac Pro. I want to install my G5's hard drive as a second hard drive on his Mac Pro.
My questions are:
1) Is this even possible?
2) Can I do this without losing the content of my hard disk?
3) Is there an available guide, or could someone run down the detailed steps, of doing this?

I am transferring my iPhoto library to an external hard drive and it is agonizingly slow. Â
I am attempting to make room on our iMac so am moving our 193 GB iPhoto library to our Seagate 2TB external hard drive. The drive is brand new AND is formated properly as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but the current copy estimate is for it be completed in over 80 hours. I dont beleive the drive is broken as data is continuing to be transferred and not completely hung up. Â
When I transfer other folders/files the process is much much faster. Problem only seems to be with iPhoto library that I have found. Â

How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

iPod shuffle, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I recently bought a macbook pro and am making the transition from a pc to mac. It's all gone well so far, but I'm not sure what to do with my music. I currently have about 200 gb of music on my external hard drive (connected to my pc.) The internal hard drive on my pc does not have space to accomodate the files on my external.
I do not have the "Copy files to iTunes music folder" currently enabled because my internal doesn't have space. (And I like having the original music files in a separate location as I have over 30,000 songs). I don't know how to transfer my external and music to my macbook, since I will have to reformat the drive (which would erase everything on it, therefore I somehow have to make a backup either on my mac or on my pc. but what to do about the iTunes .xml file and iTunes folder on the internal pc drive??).

I have a 1TB USB drive that when I connect it to my Macbook it is read only. I can see all the files but it will not allow me to move files to the drive or from the drive. When I go to "Get info" it show that it is read only with no option to change this except a check box for "share folders) and that seems to have no effect or does not solve my problem anyway.

I upgraded the hard drive in my 2006 model white MacBook. It now has a Western Digital WD3200BEVT... 320GB 5400rpm. I recently purchased a new 13 inch MacBook Pro, and would like to put the Western Digital hard drive in the new MacBook Pro. Both computers have Mac OS X 10.6.2 installed. My plan is to open the MacBooks and put the WD into the MBP. I'll boot from the reinstall disc that came with the MBP and install without formatting.

I have a Mac Pro with two hard drives. The one with my older system seemed to be failing, so I installed Lion on the other, newer drive. Now I'm facing the problem of having to transfer all my settings, iTunes info, Keychain, Apps/Serial Numbers/Permissions, etc. from the old system/drive to the new system/drive. How do I do this? (I'd like to be able to sync my iPhone again instead of being told it's already associated with a different computer!) I should add that the new system is already installed, so using a program like Carbon Copy Cloner would just erase that. I also already had data on the drive where the new system was installed, so wiping the drive was out of the question.

Here is my dilemma. IMAC with OS X 10.6.8 I have about 200 .jpg images from my vacation that I wish to put onto a CD-R and send to a friend. Sounds simple, but I can not do it. From all of the information I have read I should insert the disk, and drag the files onto the CD icon. But the CD icon is no where to be found. When I insert a CD a window opens "you inserted a CD. Choose an action from the pop up window or click Ignore" It appears that the best option is to open DISK UTILITY. If I do not open DISK UTILITY the CD Icon does not appar on the desktop. I have opened DISK UTILITY and tried all sorts of options. It has a burn option and is says select and image to burn. But the folder with the pics and the files are grayed out.

My friend wanted some files to be transferred to his external hard drive from my Mac. As he is a Windows user, I guess his hard drive is formatted for Windows as well. As I plug in the hard disk in my Mac, I can't transfer the files. It says something like "the disk cannot be modified". So, please help me on how can I transfer this files from my Mac and if I do format it to work with the Mac, will it work for Windows later?

I have two 500GB data drives, one is split in half with Boot Camp getting 250GB.
The Boot Camp drive is starting to fail and needs to be replaced.
I ordered a 1TB drive and my plan is copy all data from the first drive on the 1TB, and then format the working 500GB and put Boot Camp onto it (this time filling the whole drive).
What is the best way to do this?
I'm thinking maybe - run Boot Camp Assistant, set up the partition, then clone the contents on the drive? Is this the best way?
What is the best software to use?

my few months old 13" macbook pro (4gb ram, 500gb hard drive) was destroyed by liquid damage the other day . i was told the hard drive may be salvageable and that it would be easy enough to install in a new macbook by myself. however, i've been thinking of using the cost of a new macbook to buy a second- hand macbook pro instead. i presume i wouldnt be able to install the old hard drive on a macbook pro would i? if not then how would i transfer the data to it from the old one?

I pretty much made the switch to all MAC a few months ago. I have a few external drives that i use with Media players and they prefer and work better when formatted to NTFS problem is, MACs can only read and write to FAT32. I have Windows 7 on my macbook ( though my movie collection is on my iMac ) via bootcamp, so that isn't a option. I heard and read about some programs and what not.. but what is the fastest and easiest way to transfer files from my iMac to a NTFS formatted HD? I have movies ( some over 4gb in size ) on my iMac.
