Apr 10, 2012I am transferring my iPhoto library to an external hard drive and it is agonizingly slow.
I am attempting to make room on our iMac so am moving our 193 GB iPhoto library to our Seagate 2TB external hard drive. The drive is brand new AND is formated properly as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but the current copy estimate is for it be completed in over 80 hours. I dont beleive the drive is broken as data is continuing to be transferred and not completely hung up.
When I transfer other folders/files the process is much much faster. Problem only seems to be with iPhoto library that I have found.

Nov 8, 2009I have a mac book pro system 10.5.8 I life 09 I noticed your post and thought you might know what to do?
I created another iPhoto library on my external hard drive. With photos from 2007-2008 Deleted them from the main iPhoto. Then in 2008 I carbon copied my computer to the external hard drive. I ended up with 3 iPhoto libraries. I wanted to only have one on the external hard drive and today after not enough research I drug the iphoto icon on top of the one in the user folder on to the iphoto icon. The photos are not showing up in my iphoto library when I open the iphoto on the external HD. I do a rt click and open the iphoto package and the photos are all there with all information How do I get them to show up when I open the external hard drive or am I fried?

I finally read that if I transferred them into iPhoto they would automatically go into jpg form. Jul 1, 2012i have returned all my photos into the new iphoto 9.1.However they aren't displayed the way they used to be. The computer is ignoring all the dates i entered on the individual film rolls and displaying them with date that's embedded on the digital images.An example is i have a film roll which contains photos of my cat Salem which range from 2004 to 2012. This 'folder' used to be displayed at the bottom of all the film rolls as i had it dated 12/25/2020 so i knew where it was and could add to it easily. Now though it's near the top lumped together with 2004 photos dated 2004-2012.How do i get iPhoto to display my photo film rolls the way they were on iphoto 6?I would go back to running TIiger and the apps that came with it including iPhoto 06 but i need snow leopard as i have bought two new Lacie 2 TB drives for storage and they need a newer operating system.

Mar 16, 2010I have a MacBook and use iphoto. I have about 18000 pictures on it and now there is no more free space on my computer. I bought a Time Capsule and thought I would just move the photos to it. I also have other photos on two separate hard drives from an old PC. I moved some of the photos to the Time Capsule, but now I cannot view them like I can the photos on my MacBook. When I had a PC, I would just use the PC viewing program (that came with the computer) and select a drive and view the photos, but with iphoto I cannot seem to figure out how to view the photos that are on a separate drive (Time Capsule). So now I have a Time Capsule with about 9000 photos (half of what is on my MacBook) and I do not know how to view them. Also, I would like to back everything up on a web based platform like Carbonite. If anyone has any advise, ideas, suggestions, comments, etc.

Jun 2, 2012I recently switched over to a Mac from a PC which I've had for years. Since I never had a photo storage program on my PC, all my photos were kept in folders on my hard drive. When I got my Mac, all my photos were imported into iPhoto and now I simply use iPhoto for everything I upload. My question is, can I delete the old photos (now imported into iPhoto but still on my hard drive in seperate folders) from my hard drive to save space without deleting them from iPhoto? I checked my settings and I do have the "copy to iPhoto library" option checked but I don't know if that makes a difference. Any information would be helpful - it would be nice if I knew I could delete photos that are essentially duplicates to save space on my hard drive.

Apr 24, 2012I cant import any photos or videos without iphoto crashing. I have an Ipad2 and iphone4 with a brand new imac running Lion. Since I bought my imac it has always had problems with iphoto. I have removed iphoto and reinstalled a fresh copy of it via the CD that came with my imac. Also, I have no plugins installed so no divx or anything like that.

Intel Mac :: IPhoto Has Stopped Attaching Photos To Emails?
Jun 1, 2012While using iPhoto last night it stopped attaching any photos to my e-mails. It sends the photo number to the subject line but will not attach thre photo to the message.
A new photo taken today will attach as normal but all old ones in the Events folders of iPhoto refuse to attach by any means available. I have tried using the 'Attach' facility in my Apple Mail (version 4.5) but although it brings up thumbnails photos it will not allow selection for attachment.
I have re-booted to no avail.
