Installed new hard drive and the system fails to find it. Formatted it on the other iMac and reinstalled but it still is not seen by the system. Everything was running very well until the drive failure. Took it to an Apple approved store, paid the $60 to be told that the Mother Board was bad. It is hard for me to believe that a disk failure could cause a Mother board failure. 2- 20" iMacs, a 24" iMac, and a new 27" iMac (not yet out of the box.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently fired up a old MDD G4 at work, and after 5 seconds or so, the APC unit that it was connected to started warning that there was a current overload, and killed the power port. I plugged in another computer to make sure that it wasn't a general overload, and it ran fine, so it's a problem with the MDD. The power supply area smelled a little different, and it was hot. The system powers on completely (fans, hard drive, etc.), but it just trips the overload circuit by drawing too much power. Is there a way to take apart the PSU and see what's going on?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI would like to run a Macbook Pro Retina (2014) with the lid closed and all video and audio via HDMI routed to an external monitor (Samsung Syncmaster from 2010). Is this possible? When I try this, no sound is transferred to the external monitor and I cannot operate the Macbook Pro with the lid closed. As soon as I close the lid, it cuts the signal to the external screen.  I’ve tried looking for previous posts but they’re about MCP’s connecting via Thunderbolt or DVI.

Can I transfer data from quicken for windows 2005 to quicken essentials for mac os lion, and how?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter some of the latest upgrades in OS X Lion when computer goes into sleep mode some connections doesn't work properly. Web Server, SSH, mail server (if any) work fine but it is impossible to remote control the computer via VNC. When trying to connect to the computer once in sleep mode with VNC viewer or similar and after the user and password submmision you get the "The connection closed unexpectedly" error and it's only possible to remotely connect to the computer when manually wake up the machine, making useless the remote control service.

I have a long narrow window (about 1/2 inch high and 11 inches long) (black background with white lettering) in the middle of my desktop. the word "eject" is located on the lefthand side. I can't remove the window or move it. And don't know how it got there. How do I get rid of it.

My wife registered my daughter for a school admission process online. We received a confirmation in a safari window and it said we need to print it. But then my mom closed that window in error. Now that program registration is full. Is there anyway I can retrieve that window. It is really important for us as a family.Â

I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).Â
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).Â
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

I am having some problems with this computer. Suddenly shuts itself off I have had trouble turning it back on. At times I try unplugging the power cord (both ways), and any peripherals (USB, Firewire). Sometimes it works and other times no. I pretty much have to play around with it - but right now I can't turn it back on! In case some are wondering, it is running Tiger, 1 GB of RAM, and I keep it running pretty much around the clock.

Since I updated to Leopard, some of my video and slideshow programs are lagging on screen. I have done a pretty good search on the forums here, but am getting some contradicting info. What is the fastest video card for my early 2005 G5 dual 2.0 with AGP 8x slot? ATI RADEON X800 Mac Edition Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra (what is the difference between the NVIDIA and the BFG cards?) I have an ATI Radeon 9650 with 256MB one single link and one dual link DVI. The ATI RADEON X800 Mac Edition has one ADC and one dual link DVI? Do both of those ports support a 30" Cinema HD display? My 9650 only supports one and it is in the 2nd port so it is annoying having my 23" be my main monitor and the 30" be the secondary.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having serious issues with my Apple PowerPC G5.. Its the 2.5 Dual Processor version of early 2005 running os x 10.5.8, i have installed; 2x500gb hds along with 4.5gb of ram... Ok now heres the problem, yesterday i came across an app called "CHUD" this apparantly was developed to help speed up an OS X system, so i downlaoded and began to install the parts to the app suite, after installing 1 or 2 of the CHUD apps i came to Reggie SE, i doubled clicked on the install then my G5 decided to freeze, completley! I tried Force Quit and nothing happended, the system would not respond what so ever, so i left it for 30mins or so to see if it would figure itself out and it didnt so i had no alternative but to cut the power and reboot....
Now, after reboot, my G5 will boot up to the User login dialogue, once i enter my password the dialogue accepts my password and dissapears (astho it is logging into my account) but then the screen turns Blue and the system returns to the Username & Password dialogue box..... Also the fans within my system begin to speed up and dont stop for a while, almost sounds like my G5 Tower is about to take off!
I have a macbook running leopard 10.5.1 i installed CrossOver to install a couple .exe programs i needed for school. I was wondering if installing MS Visual Basic 2005 would work using this method? my teacher is giving everyone MS VB 2005 Pro edition. Will that install just fine using CrossOver? or should i try the VB 2005 express edition you can d/l? i want some thoughts before i try anything, i don't want to mess up my new macbook.

I was wondering if the mid 2005 G5 requires an antenna for bluetooth operation. After looking on ebay, it seems that the module goes for only $20 bucks, but the antenna alone goes for another $20. I plan on using it to sync with my Motorola Razr, so it won't be far from the computer. So, without an antenna, will it still work well enough? (or at all?)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dual 2.0G G5 Power Mac here. When you plug the power into the machine, it automatically powers up. The fans come on low and the power light is on. There is no hard disk sound or video. There is no chime or sign of any intelligence. The LED #7 (Checkstop) is on and solid red. I have reseated the video card, and taken out both pairs of memory dimms, rotating the pairs in various slots to eliminate a single dimm or slot. I pressed the SMU reset. I suspect the system board or the power supply. Anyone have a guess on what could cause this and how to test it? Also, anyone know how to get the heatsinks out so I can reseat the processors?
