Hardware :: Apple's New Magic Trackpad Clicks, Has Unique Three-finger Gesture?

Jul 27, 2010

Apple's Magic Trackpad acts just like a bigger version of the multi-touch trackpads found on the company's notebook computers, though it does include one new, unique gesture for moving windows. The customizable device can have certain features enabled or disabled through software, including options such as tap-to-click. Like the trackpad on a current MacBook or MacBook Pro, the entire surface can be pushed for a physical click as well.According to Engadget, the hardware also comes with one exclusive new feature: a three-finger gesture that allows users to drag windows around quickly.

Much like can already be done on a Mac desktop via the Magic Mouse, the Magic Trackpad offers standard multi-touch gestures, including two-finger scrolling, pinch to zoom, rotate, and three-finger swiping. Users can also invoke Expose or switch between applications by using four fingers, all capabilities previously found on the company's notebook multi-touch trackpads. In the Magic Trackpad's software settings, users can enable or disable tap to click, dragging, drag lock, a localized secondary click (such as tapping in a specific corner of the trackpad). Other features include inertia-based scrolling, screen zoom, pinch to open and close, and the aforementioned new three-finger dragging."It's made with smooth, wear-resistant glass that feels great to the touch," Apple said. "And it?s nearly 80 percent larger than the built-in trackpad on the MacBook Pro, giving you plenty of room to perform gestures. Because the entire surface of Magic Trackpad is a button, you can click on objects just as you would using a traditional mouse. And Magic Trackpad sits at the same height and angle as the Apple Wireless Keyboard, so you can go from trackpad to keyboard in one seamless motion."

The $69 wireless device works with any Bluetooth-enabled Mac, and can be connected up to 33 feet away. The device also detects periods of inactivity to conserve battery life, and has a dedicated on-off switch. Apple has said that the device will operate for "months at a time" without the need to replace its AA batteries.

In addition to two AA batteries -- which are included, and which Apple now sells in a rechargeable form -- the new Magic Trackpad requires users to have a Bluetooth-enabled Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and the latest software update.

I have got a new magic mouse but it does not scroll, the scrolling feature does not show in mouse preferences, it only shows tracking speed and double-click speed. In Bluetooth preferences it says the mouse is connected and paired, but in Keyboard & Mouse Bluetooth preferences the keyboard name is there and it shows the battery level, but shows no name or battery level for the mouse.

Intel Mac :: Apple Magic Trackpad Automatically Left Clicking

Since I have done a disk repair (only change I can think of that may have had an impact) my Apple Magic Trackpad now randomly acts as though there is a "left click" being passed through. Sometimes it gets "stuck" in this left click mode. I've tried turning off single tap for left click in System Preferences, but to no avail.

Did apple just recently add two finger scroll to early non-scroll iBooks or was my iBook screwed up that it never showed up before? I was just in the system preferences last week and I'm 100% sure there were never any options for scrolling before. I'm happy it's there and it works, I'm just curious why it wasn't there before.

Hardware :: Magic Mouse & Magic Trackpad Use With Imac

I'm looking to get either a Magic Mouse or the Magic trackpad to use with my iMac. Do they both work with Windows? My wife uses Windows Vista on bootcamp for work. Also, I do play some games, nothing heavy duty.Any other thoughts or suggestions would be helpful, especially concerning the magic trackpad as my experience with it is approximately 10 minutes at my local Apple store.

I've just finished installing Windows 7 32-bit on my Macbook which has 4 GB of RAM. But Right Click doesn't seem to work (except by using shift + F10), and double finger scroll doesn't work either. No Driver CD came with Windows 7. So, do I need to download a special driver to get these to work?

OS X :: Mail On SL, When Use A Two-finger Scroll, The List Has Simulated Inertia And Momentum?

Oct 18, 2009

I just had to have one. Got it at Best Buy yesterday for $75 including tax.Using a tablet really makes keyboards and mice seem primitive. The Bamboo Touch does two-finger multi-touch gestures, as well as single-finger.So far, I'm mainly using it on my Studio 540 with Sim City 4 Deluxe.

I'd like to utilize Ink on the OS X side of my life, but I need a pen. I know I can get one from Wacom for $30, but will that work with the Bamboo Touch?I noticed in Mail on SL, when I use a two-finger scroll, the list has simulated inertia and momentum, like in iPhone OS. Think it's a sign of a tablet?

Hardware :: Magic Mouse - Finger Moves?

Nov 28, 2010

I've had the Magic Mouse for a few months and I'm not overly impressed with it, although I like the sideways swipe very much. But perhaps my preferences aren't ideal. I am using Magic Prefs.

I find the mouse very heavy, with 2 batteries (- it's a pity there wasn't a chorded version - it would be much lighter).

My question: Is there a way the movement of my forefinger can represent the movement of the cursor? i.e. is there a way I don't have to move the actual mouse (it is heavy), but just move my finger around the surface and have the mouse cursor follow?

Hardware :: Magic Mouse 2 Finger L / R Swipes Not Working

Dec 18, 2010

The issue is basically as described in the thread title. Out of nowhere, my Magic Mouse doesn't seem to recognize left and right 2-finger swipes (forward/back in browser and I've also used Better Touch Tool to make it change songs in iTunes). The only change I've made was to install the drivers for a Digidesign MBox 2 (audio/MIDI interface for recording). I checked my mouse preferences, and the box for the 2-finger swipe is checked. I've turned the mouse off and back on, restarted BTT, restarted the computer, and pretty much everything else I can think of. Does anyone have any ideas, or has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there any chance the MBox could have some effect on this?

Hardware :: Magic Mouse 2 Finger Swipe Gesture No Longer Actually Functions?

Nov 3, 2009

I've had my Magic Mouse since last thursday (29th Oct) and i've noticed the 2 finger swipe gesture no longer actually functions. I'm trying it in Safari (with history available to swipe through) and its definately enabled in the system preferences.

Instead of doing the swipe gesture it now just scrolls left and right. Its also not a case of positioning my fingers wrong as it used to work around 2 days ago and now it definitely no longer works.

I'm going to re-pair it a few times and replace the batteries but if it doesnt magically come back I will be replacing it.Just curious if anyone else who has had their magic mouse for this long has lost this gesture too?

Hardware :: Magic Mouse To Switch Tabs With Two Finger Swipe In Chrome?

Magic Mouse has this ballyhooed two-finger swipe feature that (in any browser, apparently - I use Chrome) lets you go back and forth on a page. That's great, except I rarely need to go back or forth; switching tabs, however, is way more useful. Is there a way to set up the mouse to do that instead?

I have no use for the "show desktop" thing you get when you drag four fingers up, so I would LOVE to be able to see all spaces instead. It would be perfect, first four fingers up to enable spaces, then down again to view all windows.
