I have Macbook Pro running MAC OS X. I can boot the computer and use it but every time I try to download a new program or add a user or anything it asks me for the password, I don't have this password. Is there any way to by pass this without losing all my programs and information? I am desperate!

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy father has an eMac desktop computer running OSX 10.2.4 We finally hooked him up on DSL, and are now trying to update some of his software through downloads. His system asks us for a User and Password. The User it recognizes is my mom, now deceased 4 years, and we have no idea what password she might have set up. It also recognizes "Administrator" in the User field, so is there a standard password that goes with that?
Is there a way for us to change the User and Password? The computer's Help section recommended reloading the OSX software, but the OSX came loaded on the computer when we bought it, and there doesn't seem to be a CD of the system software in the house.
I was wondering if there is a way to bypass the keychain login password.I am the administrator on this computer and my children have there own accounts and I would like to watch what they are doing on facebook and aim but when I try to log into their keychain account to find out there passwords it doesnt let me in.I think they changed the password so it is not the login password.I know the log in password because I set up their accounts.As the administator can I reset their passwords so I have access again.Or do I have to block these sites so they cant go on them at all.

I am running OS X Mavericks, and when I want to, let's say, install a Sims 3 game, it asks for my administrator password. Now since someone else owns the computer (and they don't want me to know their password but I can install the games with their permission) I don't know the admin password, and I want to know, is there a way to bypass that admin password without having to reset it to a pass I know? Or do I just have to deal with the fact that I have to ask?

Because a user with the Mac OS X install disc can gain unrestricted access to your computer, you should keep the disc in a safe place. To reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X disc:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc and restart the computer.
2. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the spinning gear.
3. When the Installer appears, choose Utilities > Reset Password.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to change the password.
5. Quit the Installer and restart your computer while holding down the mouse button to eject the disc.

I cant seem to add software or to update my adobe flash player. For example, when I got to update the flash player it instead asks me to type your password to allow Install Adobe Flash Player to make changes. It lists my name but for the life of me I dont remember the password (in reality I dont recall setting it up).

This morning I performed a 'Software Update' on my Macbook Pro and 6 new items were updated. The Mac then asked me to restart so I did but when it came back on I logged in as normal but it won't connect to my wifi unless I type in the password. I've tried Utilities > keychain manager but all I get is 'Access to this item is restricted' (when I click on show password and login again). My ipad and iphone are still okay and can access the wifi fine.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am traveling in southern Chile with my MacBook air. It has OS X operating system Leopard but not sur eof exact version. I had a problem and rebooted machine. It came up in SAFE MODE and asked for a password. I have no idea what my password is. I went on line using another computer and saw that if I have original DVD installation disks I can reboot with them and change password. Two problems with that.
1. I do not have disks
2. Even if I did the MACbook air does not have built in CD ROM port and not sure if my externally plugged in unit would even work if I did have the disks.

I'm running a bootcamped Windows Vista and I forgot the password to the only admin account. Anyway to fix this without reinstalling the entire system? I don't have access to an installation dvd now either, so anything using that is not possible.

I have an application on my desktop that is attached to a webserver updating account that I need to modify the settings for. Problem is, I've forgotten the password and their 'forgot password' thing isn't responding after a few hours. If I could just reveal the password that's saved on the desktop application then I wouldn't have to mess with it. I looked all though Keychain, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere in there. Back in PC days there were tons of applications that could just reveal what was behind the little dots. After about 20 minutes of searching, it seems that the mac world offers no such convenience. Anyone know some other way around this? I mean, it must be stored somewhere on here. The application is remembering the password.

So I can still use my computer but there are certain things that I'm not able to do without a password. I had read that I could reboot the whole system to its factory settings which I'm okay with because I saved all my stuff to an external hard drive. Now the problem is that I no longer have the os x cd that came along with it but my friend who owns an imac has his, so I was wondering if I could use that one. That is, are all mac os x cds universal to mac computers? I had also read about manually rebooting the system but there were too many people who claimed it had damaged their computers instead so I want to avoid that. What should I don now?
