Intel Mac :: Login Goes To White Screen And Then Back - Constant Cycle
Jun 3, 2012
When I turn my computer on, a gray bar must be filled (takes about 20 mins) before it goes to the login page. Then, when I log in with the corrct password, the screen abruptly turns white like the startup white page for about 5-10 seconds (time varies each time) and then goes back to the login page where it will happen again and again. This all started when I banged my mouse and it stopped working and I held down the power button to turn off the computer and then hit it again to turn it on.

I have loved and cherished my MacBook Air for two years now, but last night it went in to a reboot cycle for no apparent reason. Now every time it gets to the apple logo I get the rotating "thinking" ident under the apple logo and it restarts, continually. I did the hardware test (holding down "D".....that was fine.) I also reset the PRAM... so the troubleshooting keystrokes work.

i recently had some repairs done to my mac and since i got it back, it goes back to the login screen after only 5 minutes of inactivity, i have changed the display and computer sleep options, and tried changing the user login options, all to no avail.
This problem is extremely frustrating, especially when i just want to play music while i clean the house or something.Â

My new (to me) G4 runs fine (OS 10.5.5) except that after about 45 minutes, it just quits and returns to the login screen. I first noticed this as I was attempting to update software. Download proceeded, and after about 45, back to login. Sitting, running unattended, with all power save options set to "never" it does the same thing.

When I type in my password, my computer says that it's logging in but then it takes me to a blue screen and then back to the login screen. I then type in my password again, but the same thing happens. I'm typing in the right password but it doesn't fully log me in.

I have a MacBook, late 2008 It originally had 120 GB hard drive. Because I had less than 10 GB of space left, I replaced that with a 320 Western Digital Scorpio Blue HD (by myself, with an antistatic strap, etc). Everything seemed fine for a few days. Lots of space, immediate responsiveness with programmes, etc....nothing could be better. Then the system started getting sluggish, and I started getting spinning beach ball clicking between apps. Every time I ran verify disk permissions, there was a long list of permission repairs. Running repair disk never yielded a result other than everything being okay. I even created a flashdrive with the installation software. And I ran Onyx to try to clean things out.Â
Then a few days ago, after restarting my computer (I may have done an update, but am not sure), my computer slowly booted up, came to the login screen, I entered my password, my desktop appeared and it "hung" for about 30 seconds, then the screen turned blue and went back to login screen. I made several attempts to login, but always got the same result.Â
I used my bootable flashdrive (which I created with SuperDuper to contain the installation disk before I installed the new hard drive) to check and repair permissions. Each time I did that, I got the same permission errors. Again, nothing detected with disk verification/repair. When I start up the computer in safe mode, everything is fine except Safari kept crashing. Deleted and reinstalled safari to no avail. Still crashed. No problem in Firefox. In the regular mode (not safe mode), I reinstalled Flash, restarted, then back to the looping to the login screen. Still no problems in safe mode. At first I thought there would have been something with the new hard drive, but everything works fine in Safe Mode, so I'm wondering if there is something with Safari or Flash. I've updated ClamX and run a ClamX scan as well to check for viruses/Trojans.Â

I have just purchased my new iMac having made the leap from PC. Overall I love my new machine (and the iPhone and Apple TV that accompany it...) However, in a bid to recoup some of the large outlay, I was seeking to list lots of things on eBay this weekend. However, at what appeared to be almost every other key stroke/action I was returned to the home screen and asked for my login details again, and again, and again! Clicking the 'remember me' box made no difference whatsoever.

So my 20" 2.4 Imac crashed on me twice tonight. A box popped up telling me to hold down the restart button for several seconds to restat. The second time I did this it just sits with a white screen and give three loud beeps over and over. Is there a fix for this? Is it my ram? I'm at a loss.

I own a 3year old iMac 24" model 2008. On the top of the screen theres appeared some white "sun"-alike stripes.
I got the iMac from someone which unfortunately is a smoker, so the first thing i did was cleaning the glass, which did alot for the fuzzy smudges. But theres something wrong in the LCD screen itself.Â
My observation are that its easier to see when theres backlight, so when the screen is black its almost not visible.Â
I wonder if theres any chance that dust/smoke has got its way inside of the LCD even though the stripes look way too symmetric.

A small (about 1 inch square) blank, white box has appeared at top left-hand corner of my screen. Nothing seems to shift or remove it - cursor doesn't seem to recognise or register on it. I first noticed it soon after I'd had to re-start the Mac (it failed to 'fire up' as usual the other morning), but I can't remember exactly what I was doing when I first saw it.

I've had my iMac for over 2 years now. Last Thursday, I left it on for more than 3 hours and it started having black and white verticals lines appearing on the bottom and top part of my desktop and the cursor. Yesterday, when I checked it again, it was still there! What can I do to fix it, WITHOUT going to a Apple store?

Simply using my Imac for watching tv on the web, Hulu, and left to help my wife get groceries in the house. My wife checked her email and closed Safari.
I came back in roughly 10 minutes from when she shut down Safari to see a black screen with white pinstriping, and the mac being totally unresponsive. Shut down and rebooted, sent off the report to Apple, and am now here with seemingly no problems.Â
Needless to say, as a photographer this computer is just about as important as my camera. Should I be worried? discovered the thread to this issue, which appears to be quite extensive.Â
