Intel Mac :: It Won't Connect To Sony LCD Via HDMI
Jun 17, 2012
I have a new iMac which I'm attempting to connect to my Sony KDL-46S5100 LCD Television via HDMI. The TV will not recognize the computer. I have confirmed that my adapter and cable work by testing the connections on a MacBook Pro - that worked fine. However, when I plug the adapter into my iMac the TV says "no signal" and the iMac does not recognize the TV. I went to the Apple store earlier and they were able to get the computer to connect to their TV with no problem.

I just replaced my HDTV with a new Sony Bravia 32EX500 (Full HD, 1080p). My previous TV (HD Ready, 720p) was linked to my 2008 iMac with a VGA cable (with a mini-DVI to VGA adapter on the Mac end). It worked perfectly fine, but I can't get it to work with the new TV. Could you please tell me what resolution, frequency, and colours I should use to make it work?
Please not that I do not want a HDMI cable. I know it'd be better and easier, but my computer is quite far away from the TV and an HDMI cable of that length would be way too expensive. I'd rather find a way to make it work with the existing VGA cable. I just need to find the right settings for that VGA input. The TV doesn't recognize the signal right now.

I have an iMac (early 2008) and I would like to use my Sony Bravia TV (46EX520) as a monitor. Pretty easy so far but the trick is that I would like to do it wirelessly. I have the Sony wireless / LAN adaptor (UWA-BR100) which enable me to connect my TV to my modem/router (D-Link DSL-2730B). However, I do not want to stream movies, music or pictures from my computer to my TV. I want to use the TV as computer screen. I have not found a way to wirelessly link my iMac to the Sony Bravia magic trick?

I recently obtained a Mac mini to use with my Sony LCD projection television (model number KDF-E55A20). To connect the two, I used a standard DVI to HDMI conversion cable. The picture looks great. I have connected the standard audio output of the mini to the audio portion of the HDMI port (#6) on the television using a cable that changes from the audio-out to RCA (red and white) cables. (I'm sorry I don't know what the name of this sort of cable is, but I know it is very standard).
The problem: I get no sound! To troubleshoot I connected my Powerbook G4 to the same HDMI port (using the provided adapter to connect to the same DVI to HDMI cable). Once I plug in the same audio cable as I tried to use with my mini, I get both picture and sound. It seems that the television inactivates the audio input component of the HDMI port if it picks up what it thinks is an HDMI input (since it is supposed to carry audio). But it is only getting DVI! So the problem is not with the mini as it produces audio normally. There's a setting (hopefully not hard-wired) with the Sony to inactivate the audio-in on HDMI input.

I recently received a late 2007 mac mini as a hand me down from my parents and I'm trying to hook it up to a Sony HDTV via HDMI to DVI cable. I bought the cables I needed and attempted to set it up, however when I turn on the system nothing appears on the display. I've been searching posts and various forums, but haven't really made any progress because most troubleshooting guides are focused upon display problems like pixels and refreshes.
Unfortunately I don't have a VGA monitor to use (which is what the mini was previously used on) to try and see if that works.

I have got a problem with the connection between my Macbook Unibody Late 2008 and my Sony TV. I've bousht an adapter (MiniDispport->HDMI), which is connected to the HDMI wire that's plugged into the TV. The point is that when i go to HDMI 1 into the menu, macbook's screen goes blue for few seconds, but then goes back as it was, and i haven't got any image on the TV.

I'm currently running a 21.5" iMac that I picked up in October of '09. I also have a Viewsonic 21" monitor (nx2232w) that I have connected to the iMac at the moment through an HDMI to DVI cable out of the Viewsonic, and into a DVI to mini-DVI for the iMac.The monitor is appearing and functioning in this setup, but I can't get a resolution of any decency. Most everything is out-of-range, or wildly odd, and I know I can do better somehow. I've been searching for Viewsonic drivers, trying out different combinations, and trolling the forums to no avail.
