Intel Mac :: It Freezes Up But Mouse Still Works
Mar 14, 2012
I've got an imac with Snow Leopard on it. It has started to freeze up quite a bit, maybe once every two days. There are four profiles on the computer and it happens to them all.I have reparied permissions in each profile and run the Hardware test both standard and extended and it returned zero problems. I've reset the PRAM and NVRAM. When it freezes up the only thing that still works is the mouse. It moves the pointer but clicking doesn't do anything. Trying to force quit applications doesn't do anything. I tried unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in, thinking maybe it wasn't really freezing but just a bad keyboard but that didn't do anything--and neither does rightclicking on anything.

Has anyone had a problem with their Intel iMac mouse freezing after it wakes up from being asleep. Check my sig for specs. In particular, we have a wireless mighty mouse and everytime you wake the computer from sleep, the mouse won't work. That includes taking out the batteries and putting them back in. Keyboard still works. Is the bluetooth going bad? Could it be the mouse? We're going to schedule an appointment with the Geniuses here in Memphis so maybe they can figure something out.

It just randomly freezes, cutting off all ability to navigate the desktop.Re-booting the system resolves the problem, but leaves me with a lot of lost work.SOMETIMES taking out and putting back in the batteries resolves the problems, but not often. The kayboard continues to work, so it doesn't seem to be a bluetooth issue.Â

Every once in a while the mouse pad will stop working. A wireless mouse will work in its place. The keyboard will also act extremely slow during this time. It seems like the buffer is full and it moves on to the next letter i type without using the previously typed letter.Â

I've had this white MacBook for less than 6 months and it has froze on me multiple times already. I took it to the Mac store and they said to put the OSX discs in to get the original files, cause they thought there might be a corrupted file. So I tried that and today it froze again.
I looked at the logs and the programs that make it freeze are Osex and Macthe Ripper. The whole computer freezes where the keyboard and mouse don't work. I can only shut down the computer with the power button. I'm trying to back up my discs so I can put away my originals. This is my first Mac and didn't think this would be happening. I tried fixing the permissions, restarting, and loading the original discs. I deleted Osex and this is my first freeze with MactheRipper. Software issue? Should I just use a paid program?

Intel core 2 duo mac pro with two monitors, OSX 10.7+. Mouse only will reside in upper right of the monitor. Move the mouse and it immediatley returns to the the point of origin. Boot into safe mode and all is fine. First time this happended about one week ago, I disconnected both monitors after shutdown and unlpuged the power from the mac pro. let sit for a while and re-plugged all back in and all was fine on normal boot up.Â

ANyone got the new magic mouse working with windows? My old mighty mouse has hit the bin but only now have I realised, on an accidental boot into Windows 7, that I don't have an update to use the new mouse with Windows. Is there one available and how can I install it in the absence of a pointer?

Love my Magic Mouse.
What I don't love is that it isn't mousepad friendly.
Well, at least with the most popular mousepads that are felt and rubber.
The Magic Mouse just hangs as you swipe the mouse across the pad.
Even hangs on the rubber Apple mousepad I bought at their corporate store in Cupertino.
When I use it on my wooden desktop it works beautifully. But weeks later my desktop has all sorts of nicks all over it from the constant back and forth motion.
Anyone can recommend the perfect mousepad? Perhaps an acrylic pad would work best? Please provide links
with anything you recommend.

It is happening more and more often: When I start my iMac the mouse pointer is moving normally but when I click on, say, Finder nothing happens, or when I click on the Dock nothing happens. It will not stay or land on any app. It is just hovering and nothing seems to be affected by the mouse pointer.
I turn the mouse off and back on and it works fine. So it is an erratic behavior which baffles me.Â
I have read numerous cases in the discussions and all point to a PRAM reset. Will a PRAM reset delete or revert modifications I have made to my iMac, such as disabling the startup sound, via sudo? Â
I don't mind restarting the mouse but it is a hassle

I have an early 2008, 24-inch iMac. This problem started after I installed an OS X Mavericks update (and has continued). Basically, after the screen is asleep for a while, if you come back and move the mouse / tap the keyboard, the desktop never reappears. The screen stays black but the mouse cursor shows up and you can drag it around. I've seen some similar issues that said they could get the app switcher, but that never happens for me. Just mouse cursor and black screen, no matter how long you try to wait it out or tap buttons. The only solution is a cold restart, although I think in the past I was able to fix by turning off energy saver settings for putting the display to sleep. It doesn't happen every time, I'd say it happens over 50% of the time. The problem actually kicked in with one particular App Store update of Mavericks. I believe it was 10.9.3 if I recall correctly.

This is my first Mac user problem posting going back to my original SE! Power PC based imac running leopard 10.5.8 starts up but then mouse freezes after a few mins. Managed to change sleep mode to 15mins - same problem. Can't boot from Disk as same problem, also command+option and shift all still have mouse unmoved! Obvious change of keyboard and mouse have no effect. Could this be related to offspring's addition of ipad plugged into usb a few weeks back? He tends to unplug the device without ejecting!

I have late 2007 Mac mini and I have Snow Leopard installed and I was simply watching a Youtube video and then all of a sudden the entire system freezes (couldn't move the mouse) or anything and started choking on the audio (replaying a bit over and over)... had to manually power it off. The hard drive was replaced several months ago at the Apple Store... so I doubt it's the HD. The Mini is back on now of course... it's running fine, but I've never seen anything like that before. Anyone else ever have this issue?

My mouse continuously freezes when I have to many applications open. I have the mirror door G4. When it freezes I can access the F11 and F12 buttons on the keyboard, but have to restart the computer. I have switched the mouse, but it does not fix it. The more I use the computer the less it happens. It appears to happen more with multiple browser windows open in Safari.

After putting my MacBook Pro to sleep or rebooting, the mouse does not work anymore. I can move the mouse pointer, but can't left-click.
It seems as OS X senses a "left mouse button pressed" condition the whole time, when I wake the MacBook an move the pointer, I continuously draw selections on the screen, as if I pressed the left button and moved the pointer.
The only thing that helps is a Cmd + alt + P + R reboot, then the funtionality is fully restored, but after putting it to sleep or rebooting normally, the problem's back everytime. It's not a trackpad issue, connecting a USB mouse results in the same symptoms. I also did an SMC reset (removed battery and pressed power button 5 sec) I travel a lot with my MAcBook and have to do a hard reboot everytime when using it.

We have over 300 users of a special land surveying software LANDESIGN 1.17 made for Classic OS9 and we were able to run it successfully with the modified Sheepshaver 2.3 "Classic On Intel 4.01" installed on OSX 10.5.1 on an MB Pro Intel but after updating to OSX 10.5.4, this Classic application it is not working properly in COI 4.01 The OS9 loads ok but when I tried to open the Landesign application from within OS9, a dialog windows display "the application could noy be opened because the application that was used to create could not be found" It was running great before. Is there any other OS9 application that runs in OSX 10.5.4 on an Intel Mac?

I just installed a Seagate 500gb, 7200rpm hard drive in my 13" MBP that was updated to EFI Firmware Update 1.7. Clean install of OS X and iLife '09 & iWork '09 went fast. It's quite and fast compared to my old Samsung 500gb, 5400rpm hard drive. It was worth the $120 I spent on it!

How good does it work? Does Snow Leopord run as smooth with the Intel GPU as with the 320M/330M? The intel GPU does not support OpenCL I heard, so when SL will make use of OpenCL alot, you need to activate the 330M all the time then?
