Mar 21, 2012I have a folder on my startup drive that will not delete. I can issue the command "rm -rf dir_7171197" as root, and the prompt comes back with no errors, but the folder is still there. My question is, what are the reasons a file is not able to be deleted? I can change the name of the folder but I can't move the folder into the parent, and I can't put it in a child folder. If I attempt to trash the parent, it just sits there in the trash can and never deletes. There are no additional attributes assigned to either the folder itself or the parent.

Feb 28, 2012When I try to delete my email messages a pop down box shows up on the screen telling me that "The message (whatever one it may be) could not be moved to the mailbox 'Deleted message-mail.comcast.net does not allow messages to be moved to it.
Is it possible for me to have deleted the original trash box from the left hand column of the mail page?And that is why these email message cannot be delelted?
I have been given all kinds of sites to go to in hopes of correcting this problem but none of them has been the one that works to correct it for me I have over 45,000 messages that I need to get rid of and I just can't figure out how to get them to move to the trash file or folder and it doesn't work.

May 29, 2012I have a folder under my Gmail account marked "All Mail" which currently has over 10,000 messages that I would like to delete. I am using the Apple email program. I am able to delete them only to have them return when I reboot my computer. I am concerned that these ever growing messsages will slow down my computer. I have worked with my internet provider, Apple tech, and gmail and no one seems to have an answer. They do not show up with I access my gmail account through the web.

May 14, 2012I made a clean install of lion as i had a little bit of a problems after few years i was uning my iMac.. All of the issues were gone but know i got a new problem with the trash ..
Every time i delete something (i.e: a folder that i dont need any more) i requires a password.. Then instead of that folder to appear in the Trash (as it should be), it is automatically gone and do not appear in the trash! what is this but i am suspicious that is the password protection thing that is responsible for that!

Feb 23, 2009finding the bookmarks folder in Mac OS X 10.5.6. I had a friend who installed a program which I didn't want. When I went to delete the program, my MacBook Pro started to run slow and screwing up, more like locking up. I had to do a clean install of Mac OS X into my Mac. When I imported my files from Time Machine, I notice that is backup my whole hard drive, but I cannot find where the bookmark folder is located at. Where would I find the bookmark folder in the backup hard drive in Time Machine?

In Windows Vista what folder does Safari keep its bookmarks in? I'm not familiar with Safari on Leopard itself but in the Windows version you can do an EXPORT and save them to a file. Long story, on the drive I'm working on I no longer have that option and I want to rescue my Safari bookmarks before I totally erase my HD.

Mar 28, 2010I am having trouble with Bookmarks. In the Folders I have numerous bookmarks under each Folder. I want to be able to display these bookmarks as a drop down menu under the Folder name. That would allow me to quickly access the bookmark I want. But when I click on the Folder name I do not get a drop down menu. Instead, the bookmarks are displayed as pages on the right hand side of the screen, and I have to scroll through all of them to get to the one I want. I am sure there is a simple way to correct this but I have not ben able to find it.

I am trying to clear out some old files so that I can have room on my start up disk. My Disk is full and it is making it hard for me to open more then one file.
