I'm currently experiencing a problem running my Suitcase Fusion 4 with my iMac. When logging onto the web, all web pages shows upo with text as "A" within a block. To relieve the problem, I've been told to upgrade my software. However, I need to first verify one thing. Does OS X 10.7.4 run on 32 or 64bit?

I have 16gb of Ram installed on my iMac and Windows 7 installed amd it is only using 2.23gb of it, and it is very annoying. I need to know if I can install 64 bit edition Windows 7 on it before I go out and spend the money on it.

My brother has the first generation of the iMacs that has a Core duo processor (not Core 2 Duo). Will snow leopard work on it? On Apples site, it says that you need a Intel processor to run Snow leopard, but then below it says you need a 64bit processor which is what he doesn't have.

I have a feeling this might be a dumb question, but I just wanted to make sure before I go out and buy Vista 64.
Also do you think windows 7 is better for games? Will it even run games that have not been written for it? Or would I just be better sticking with vista 64 until everyone has caught up and made their apps compatible with the new windows 7? I mean will antivirus programs, ripping apps, etc work under windows 7 without a hitch, or should I wait and just use vista64 for now?
I recently reformated my PC and put XP Professional 64bit on it, did all the updates that I possibly could. Installed/downloaded all my games, updates, patches. Customized windows with everything that I like. Installed my AVG 8.0 Pro antivirus, Just everything that I want with a PC.
is there a way to totaly save my entire windows install? Like if I were to upgrade from a 500gig to a 1 TB hard drive? I know some PC repair shops use a program to do this. I think it has the word "Ghost" in it? Is there another way also? I have an external 500 HD that I would save w/e I need to save on it to make it work.
I just read the seed notes for Snow leopard latest build and when reading what I can test 64 bit apps with seems pretty much any mac in -08 and -09 except (!) MBA and minis.
Any idea why?
I thought at least the MBA rev B would be 64-bit capable...?

Contrary to belief, Snow Leopard by default (except for Xserves) runs in 32-bit mode. Check for yourself.

I forced it to 64-bit on my '08 Mac Pro and things were slower! Spaces was very slow. Dashboard was quirky. I say avoid it.
I've got a mid-2007 C2D MBP with 64-bit EFI and obviously, 64-bit processors.
'6' and '4' on Snow Leopard won't boot into 64-bit mode. I don't need the 64-bit kernel at this point, but I'm mostly curious to see what drivers and apps breaks under a 64-bit kernel and the only way to find out is to try it.
There's a pretty nifty hack involving hex editing boot.efi that works for some suitable Macs:

No mention of MBP, and my attempts at guessing offsets and values while hex editing didn't cause any booting issues but didn't result in 64-bit kernel loading, either. Anybody happen to know offset and value in boot.efi to mod for a MBP?
I know this is a real long shot type of question and I'm not expecting anybody to know. But if you do, would love to find out.
My Windows XP partition is getting claustrophobic and it's about time I upgraded from an 8 year old OS.
Anyway, what's the easiest way to do this? I assume it'll have to be a clean install to go from XP to 7 and 32bit to 64bit.
I have a fair number of programs and several gigabytes of Steam games which is why I haven't done it yet.
I have a 15'' unibody mbp with the 9600M, and the nvidia notebook driver installer always fails to recognize my graphics card and quits. Is there a way around this? I have tried modifying some INF files but it doesn't work.

Does the computer automatically switch between the two or is there something you have to specifically do to run one or the other? View 1 Replies View RelatedFinally home for Xmas since (remotely) buying my mother a Macbook 6.1 over Easter. I've set her up with a few utilites (Click to flash, VLC player, Coconut battery), but Im unable to get 64bit kernel to work (as it does on my 6.2 MBP).
The MB appears to meet all the criteria (64bit EFI, right processor, SL) - but neither the apple sudo terminal command, nor the 6+4 key at boot work in setting 64bit kernel. Any other suggestions?
I want 64bit because it provides improved security (NX bit in HW, less chance of exploits due to smaller market share)
Can vista 64 bit use all 8 cores of the mac pro when running under boot camp? And can you set how many cores vista uses if running under vm ware? Looking at getting one end of the year but need performance on windows still.

just got me a brand new 2010 MacPro 2 x 2.4 Quad-Core with 12GB Ram and the ATI 5870. This is the first MacPro to system boot into the 64bit Kernel by default (ie, hold 3+2 on restart to boot into 32bit Kernel). One of the first things I did was run the Photoshop performance test, which FYI on my old G5 2.7 with 4GB Ram returned a time of 114 secs, and on the new Quad-Core in 64bit kernel returned a time of 14 secs, so as you can imagine I was pretty happy with the results.
Then the problems started...... when I was installing software I got the dreaded Kernel Panic, restart your machine screen. So I did, and it happened again on restart, so I did, and it happened again on restart, so I did.... you get the idea. So I put the system disk in and restarted, then reloaded OSX10.6.4 and everything seemed to be going fine, until I installed software again (different app from the first time), and I got the Kernel panic screen, then again on restart etc, so I booted into 32bit kernel and all is good. EXCEPT! - When running the Photoshop test in 32bit Kernel it returned a time of 17secs. Now, I know I am being picky here, but I do a lot of work in PSCS5, and by a lot I mean sometimes all day on large photographic images, so 3 secs is a big deal....
Im about to recieve my MPro w/8800, and plan to have a dedicated HD for Windows in bootcamp. Windows will be used exclusively for gaming (real-time-strategy games mostly, if this matters).
I am keen on going into Vista, trading a bit of XP performance/stability towards full/hassel-free compatibility with Directx10 and future games, but have no clue whether it makes sense or not to go with the 64 bit version.
I understand this version allows to use much more RAM (which i will have installed on the MPro), AND more than a single core used.
What i dont have a clue about is wether the 64bit version is compatible with all (or grand majority) of games, whether they do actually take advantages of the 64 bit possibility (which im not sure at all, as i believe you have to program it to do so), etc.
I've installed Windows 7 64 Bit. I tried installing Boot Camp from the Leopard DVD and it gets to the part where its trying to run the service KeyAgent but it fails. This is the message I get.
"Service 'KeyAgent' (KeyAgent) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
I've tried running it in compatibility mode for Vista and made sure to have it set as run as Administrator. I also download BootCamp 2.1 for Windows Vista 64 but it wont even start. I also did the Compatibility mode and administrator for it.
I have downloaded the RC version of Windows7 64bits. I burned a DVD with 1x speed but when I tried to boot via DVD (pressing option key) it shows 2 option for DVD, Windows and EFI. I tried both and none worked. The Windows version starts and a DOS menu appears with 2 options which doesn't show what it is and then it freezes. The EFI option freezes imediately on the boot screen.

I can partition the drive just fine, but when I go to install the software, the computer reboots and seemingly attempts to boot of of the CD. I get a black screen with the following prompt:

However I am unable to type either 1 or 2 in.
I have Mac OS X on my SSD and Windows Vista X64 on a seperate drive.
I used Bootcamp to prepare the drive as a single partition for Windows.
All fine and working so far.
However, after installing the Bootcamp tools from my Mac OS X 10.5 DVD I don't get anything in the Start Menu apart from the Apple Update program.
There are several services including the Switch application that is running, but that's it.
As a result my Early-2008 Mac Pro will only boot from the Windows drive, unless I use the Option/Alt key to select the Mac OS X drive.
Anyone got a clue what I might be missing here? I already did the re-install/replace option on the Bootcamp tools. No effect.
Does anyone know if or where these are uploaded? My Snow Leopard disk refuses to install 64bit ones because i am on a 2006 Mac Pro. I've previously been running the Boot Camp 2.0 64bit drivers from the 2008 Mac Pro and they've worked just fine in vista.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded Windows 7 (64-bit) from my school's software hub and burned it to a bootable disc. I partitioned my drive, and was able to boot from the installation CD. Now, for some reason, my copy of Windows 7 must be different from EVERYBODY else's, because when I start, it asks for the language, and then I click begin install. Here's where the problem comes. I immediately get a dialogue box that says I am missing a required device driver in order to continue the installation. Please insert the CD, USB, etc. with the required drivers. (Of course, it doesn't tell me what they are.) Now, here is where I would put in my Snow Leopard disk, if it weren't for the fact that the disk refuses to eject. So, I can't even begin the installation at all. Is there somewhere I can go on the disk to find these drivers and put them on a USB flash drive? Or any other work around for this?

Anyways, if I decide to take the plunge and get windows 7, it will be for the express purpose of running within vmware. I have zero interest in running it in bootcamp (I use fedora and boot into that) so basically which version of win7 would provide the best performance. The 32bit or 64bit flavor
