Im just wondering if anyone could enlighten me on hooking my macbook (white) up to an older TV. The only ports i have are scart and composite (red, yellow, white). What cables would i need etc.
I've got a couple of older desktop Macs (G-4) and need to access the hard drive through my new MacBook Pro. These older Macs use a serial connection, is there an adapter that I can use to hook them up to my laptop via USB?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Mid-2011 iMac running 10.7 right now.I partitioned the boot drive, creating a new space so I could load up 10.6 (in an effort to be able to play my older Diablo II and Warcraft games) but my retail CD version is not working. I did some research, and found that this is because my hardware is incompatible with the oldest versions of 10.6. What I am confused about, when reading through threads, is how can I get around this? Is there a way I can load up a newer version of 10.6 (like 10.6.3 or newer) onto this partition? Do I need an older Mac to do this (right now both my laptop and iMac are running 10.7 but I could always borrow my Mom's laptop for a bit since she is running 10.6.x)? Since I have a legal version of 10.6 I assume there is a way to do this, but I am not sure how to approach.

My mid-2007 intel iMac 24" won't power on, there is no sound, screen activity or signs of life other than a slight "bzz bzz" when the power button is pressed. Yesterday it was working fine, I put the computer to sleep and when I attempted to wake it the next day, it would not. The optical eye on the mouse was lit and a green led light could be seen reflecting through the memory access door, but the computer made no sounds and would not wake. I held the power button until the mouse turned off and then attempted to reboot. All I get is a quick buzz (possibly the hard drive sound that you normally hear just before the chimes and screen powering on) when the power button is pressed, but no other activity. I attempted resetting the SMC and reinstalling the memory, no avail. Just a little buzz and nothing else. An

The SuperDrive in a oldish iMac ca 2007 (Intel Core 2 Dual Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz; Mac OS 10.6.8) refuses to allow me to burn DVD's all of a sudden; the disc just gets rejected. Used to work fine.
Anyway, I've a new external drive which I use with a MacBookAir but this doesn't seem to work on the iMac. No power to it.. zilch. Works OK on the MBA, etc.Am I right in assuming there's no way the external drive will work with older Macs?
So My name is Lindsey and I have been an avid apple supporter. However in the last two weeks I've come extremely close to selling everything apple I own and going back to windows. I purchased a refurbished Intel Imac through the apple store about 4 months ago. Awesome computer, everything worked great. Well I recently decided to add an additional monitor so of course I started browsing the forums and did my due diligence. I read that there were some compatibility issues with some of the older imacs and the apple 24 in led display so naturally I called my nearest apple store to find out if I could use this display.
The sales associate listened as I explained that I had a 2008 intel Imac and assured my the display would work without an adapter. Of course you guys know this is totally wrong but I was unaware of this fact at the time. SO I drove a 6 hour round trip to Dallas and paid 970 in cash for my new monitory. Get it home and realize that something is obv wrong. I call the store back and the clerk tells me I need an adapter that can be bought at Best Buy. I drive 45 min to best buy. They are sold out. Next day I drive an hour and a half to the next closest Best Buy. They dont have it either..............................
I'm using an Intel iMac running OS 10.4.11. Obviously the computer is a few years old now and I'm wondering whether it is worth upgrading the system software or time to get a new computer. Can you guys venture any opinions as to which version of OS X I might be able to upgrade to with decent performance? I'd rather not add any memory if that's a requirement for upgrading - in that case I'd probably just opt for a new computer.

Have been suffering Lion for ages but despite the iMac being within spec to run 10.7 required it is absolutely useless ans getting worse. It is just getting worse over time and would go back to Snow Leopard tomorrow but can't find a way to use iCloud. I have reinstalled Lion from scratch and it soon gets bogged down again – like swimming through cement just trying to do basic tasks. Only used for email, web and syncing iTunes – with Snow Leopard I could run Adobe CS, with Lion I can barely run Apple Mail.
It feels to me like Apple have left me and users like me high and dry. Any solutions welcome as this is horrible.

I know this is a fairly common subject matter but I have tried just about everything suggested but with no success. detailed below are my findings, I was wondering if anyone better qualified than me could suggest a diagnosis?
What does it do?
I hear the fans and hard drive and see the white/grey boot screen with the apple logo and spinning cog. The cog will spin for anything from 5 - 30 seconds before freezing. Some disk activity will continue for a short time afterwards before everything grinds to a halt?
After 4.5 years, the hard drive on my beloved 2007 Intel iMac has died on me. I've been eyeing a Macbook Pro for awhile now, and I think it's time to make the switch. I was wondering with some modifications, can I convert the iMac to serve as a display for the Macbook Pro?

Unexpectedly, the screen goes to a 100line b/w vertical display, and stays lit. The rear upper left feels very hot. After allowing the computer to cool to touch, rebooting presents an apparently stable system.
This has happened twice this week, and never before.

Have it hooked up to creature speakers, which never had an issue before. Sometimes if I fix disk permissions (which disk utility points out but never really fixes) and zap the PRAM, after a few restarts the audio will work. But right now mac mini is acting like it isn't connected to its speakers. Even the internal one. The previous owner did upgrade the RAM to 3 gigs...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an imac 7,1 - intel core 2 duo, 2,4GHz, that is 20" from mid 2007 with an HARD DISC: Western digital : WD3200AAJS - (320GB) that died.so I bought a NEW HDD: Western digital: WD10EARX - (1TB): Caviar green series I changed step by step the HDD and reconnected everything and all went well, until I re-started the iMac. After approx. 2-3 min the HDD Fan began to increase in speed and since then I have tried everything that I found on the net and nothing worked to slow down the fans.
That is the external temp sensor is set in the same way as it was on the old HDD. I reset the SMC and the PRAM several times, actually oppened and checked all cable conections three times. I installed the SMC fan control - no difference, the HDD fan control demo version - no difference. THUS the problem is that the FANS do not stop working as if the comp is on fire.

I have Quicken 2007 for Mac on my G4 and would like to move it to my new iMac currently running Lion. I downloaded the recently-released update that will allow Quicken to run on Lion, then downloaded the file to an external USB drive. I then uploaded it to my iMac, and Quicken opens, but does not have any of my account information. I then deleted the files from my iMac and downloaded another copy of Quicken 2007 from the Quicken website. I then downloaded the update to my iMac, but it would not open. So, it appears that I have to transfer it form my G4, but need to do it in a way that will also transfer my data.
I ordered a firewire cable and am planning to try to move it directly. In the meantime, does anybody have any tips? Just so you know, I really want to use Quicken.
What is left for me to upgrade that will improve my MacBook's (2007 - Intel) speed the most? I have a 2007 MacBook that has the maximum amount of RAM installed already (2 Gig). I've upgraded to OSX 10.7 also.. It's sometimes sluggish when trying to run Office 2011 or Windows XP under VM Ware Fusion?
