I want to potentially upgrade my hard drive from the measly 160GB to something with more space, more current, and hopefully faster. I've been doing my homework, and the only thing that scares me is the OS. I don't want to clone my harddrive as I would love to start new. I have back ups, so anything important can be transferred, but I would really like a clean slate. That would mean installing the OS from scratch. Can I use the boot disc I made with the Lion installer to install Lion on the new drive directly? I bought my MacBook Pro with Leopard installed, and later that summer installed Snow Leopard, then last summer upgraded to Lion. I don't have the Snow Leopard discs anymore, but I wouldn't want to install each after the other.How do I go about installing that? If I have a brand new drive, there theoretically won't be anything on it, so when I get that in and turn on the computer, what will happen? Will it tell me to do something?

I bought a new MacBook Pro, which has Lion. My old MacBook Pro has Snow Leopard. Last night I used migration assistant to move everything from my old computer to my new computer. My instincts told me not to do it, because my old computer is 6 yrs old and has so much stuff on it. I was thinking it might be better to just go on an as needed basis, however, there is so much I need, I decided to do it.Â
Problem one, CS5 will not work. Maybe I need to do a clean install?Â
Are there any other issues I should be aware of? I see I need to re-enter my license info for Word ...Â
Have I messed up my new machine? Should I start over and wipe the new one clean and use another method?

When I try to migrate via wifi, or net cable, using the migrate assistants on pc and mac, the computers cant find each other. Message on pc is "waiting for Mac to connect". On the iMac the message "looking for computers". Net: 10 Mb speed home wifi, both computers connected.Â

I have two hp laptops and a external hard drive that I would like to migrate to my new imac. Both laptops have itunes music on them that I would like to combine and there are a number of other files on each that I need. Is it possible to migrate multiple pcs and the external hard drive? I know there are numerous posts already about whether to 'clean install' or upgrade to Snow Leopard, but I can't seem to find an answer to my question anywhere.
I have two computers that I've already upgraded to Snow Leopard - an iMac that's about a year old (with data on it that has been migrated between macs since Tiger) and a brand new MBP which is unblighted by any migrated data. The MBP seems much faster for the upgrade, but the iMac seems a little slower.
My instinct here is to erase my iMac hard drive and install Snow Leopard from scratch, which would presumably solve the sluggish performance issues.
My question is this: I have all my iMac data backed up on Time Machine. Is performing a clean install and then restoring my mac from Time Machine going to give me exactly the same problems as upgrading did? Or would it be better to selectively move data back to my iMac after a clean install?
If I need to do this the hard way (as I suspect) and selectively bring back my data to leave the junk behind, is there anything I can do before running a clean install to make this more painless?
I upgraded my MBP internal hard drive to a Samsung 1TB and it crashed for the 2nd time (will never buy another Samsung). So this time, I purchased a WD and migrated my system to the new drive sucessfully. I just wanted to see if anyone knew if the migrate function simply copies files or if it copys sectors of the hard drive. Basically I just want to know if Mac Migrate will copy the crap from the Samsung drive that might cause my new WD to act up - or if that's possible?

When I click on any bookmark or bookmark folder, I first get a black screen with what looks like the Safari symbol. This happened just a couple days ago. I am doing a clean install of lion from the recovery HD, is it best to migrate the data back via TM back up, or clone? I don't have any programs that i don't a have disc for, and all i want to migrate is itunes, mail, and pic files etc. I have seen where migrating when you install is better than migrating later, so i want to be sure i have a clean clone, or back up, to migrate from. I have some screenshots which I would like to paste directly into an outgoing mail message. I am NOT talking about adding it as an attachment, and am NOT talking about simply adding an icon within the message which the recipient must then click on in order to open up and see the screenshot. What I am talking about is PASTING the screenshot/picture directly into the body of the mail so that the recipient can see it right away the same way it can be done in Outlook. I have seen up to this point completely misses the mark by explaining how to add an icon (which needs to be clicked to be seen) within the mail rather than answering how the image can be shown in the message itself.
