Intel Mac :: Migrate Multiple Pcs To New?
Feb 2, 2012
I have two hp laptops and a external hard drive that I would like to migrate to my new imac. Both laptops have itunes music on them that I would like to combine and there are a number of other files on each that I need. Is it possible to migrate multiple pcs and the external hard drive? If I combine more than one itunes library will they combine or will there be multiple music folders? What about duplicate music how do I remove or keep from having duplicates in my music folder?

When I try to migrate via wifi, or net cable, using the migrate assistants on pc and mac, the computers cant find each other. Message on pc is "waiting for Mac to connect". On the iMac the message "looking for computers". Net: 10 Mb speed home wifi, both computers connected.Â
PC: Win 7 with Panda antivirus and firewall, windows firewall is also turned off.Â
IMac: new with i5 processor, 8 Mb RAM. Parallel and windows installed as virtual machine.Â

I need Migrate to bring over 4 Outlook Express folders (mailboxes) that were left out after two attempts by the apple store to migrate my doc's, photos and email. There is a utility called "Belkin Switch-to-Mac" on both machines.Â

I just bought an iMac and need to transfer files from my MacBook Pro. Question though, in the transfer are files permanently removed from the source computer or are the files copied from one computer to another with the source computer retaining the original files?

I'd like to migrate my old iPhoto Library from an external HD to my new iMac. I've copied the 'iPhoto Library' folder to my desktop, but am not sure what to do from there because I've got two library files (?), 'Library.iPhoto' and 'Library6.iPhoto' in the 'iPhoto Library' folder.Â
I've read some of the other discussions re. migrating libraries, but I'm afraid I'm confused! I've been mostly PC based for so long, I don't know all the dos and don'ts of using Mac... and don't want to mess with files and folders I'm not supposed to touch.Â

I have a new iMac with two disks- the SSD and the 1TB hard drive. Lion was loaded onto the SSD, so that's my start up drive. I need to migrate all the data from my old iMac (also has Lion) to the new one. When I run Migration Assistant, it thinks I want the old mac migrated , which of course, doesn't have enough space for all the data. I can't find any way to tell it to migrate to the 1TB hard drive.Â

I have a iMac with Leopard. It has Intel Core 2 Duo 3Ghz with 4G Ram. I would like to install Lion, but on the system requirement, I can read this sentence:Mac OS X 10.6..6 or later. What does it means? I should firstly migrate to 10.6.6 or 10.6.8 and then I can migrate to 10.7?Â
My goal was to reinstall the iMac from crash with the CD of Lion.

I have only been using Macs for a year and loving them, although still learning. We have an iMac OS 10.7.3 and somehow last night I managed to rename multiple images in a folder which I've never been able to do before on a mac (except when using Bridge).

I am trying to import a list of Vcards - about 350 -. Via the file menu the system will only allow me to import one vcard at a time. Now if I try to drag&drop the full list of vcards on the Addressbook icon, the Addressbook then gets updated. However after closing and then reopening the adressbook, the previous imported contact list is lost.

We cannot log into our 2010 iMac OS X. The wireless keyboard is registering each key stroke as 1-5 dots (cannot see letters as it is the password login section to access the desktop). The delete key does nothing. The left / back arrow key addes more dots as does the front arrow key. The only way to get out is to cancel out so we are stuck.

I used to be able to scroll the pointer down to the lower right hand side of the screen to display the multiple Internet Explorer windows that i had open. Now, for some reason it wont work and the only way to do so is to minimize each screen till i find the right one. I am not sure what, if anything, i have done to change this setting.

It's great setting up different Desktops, each with different background photos, to separate my apps/uses and feel like I have three or four 27" screens, one for each category of application. What would make it even better, is if the apps that showed up in the dock matched the Desktop I was in, instead of showing the same whole row of apps across the dock, in every screen. Is it possible to set up different Docks to match different Desktops?

I've created a joint account, one for my self and one for my wife as we both have apple id's. I have transferred photos from my windows laptop to the shared folder in 'macintosh' so this library is available for all three user profiles, however there are folders within i would like only for designated users.Â
How can I save these folders to the picture folder when logged in to a specific account? I would then like to delete these folders from the shared library.Â
At the moment I can only click on the iPhoto library which takes me there and shows me the folders but i cannot see anyway of selecting specific folders and moving them to another location.Â

How does this work? If I have more than one user logged in, the power goes out and the computer decides (based on the settings I have selected for UPS) to shut down, will it be able to complete the shutdown? When I do it manually I have to log out the other users.

I have four user accounts on the same iMac and I'd like to be able to view the files within each account. When I try access one of the other three accounts through Finder, the folders have red minus signs on them. If I try to open one, I get an error message about not have the right authorities. However, I've given all four user accounts administrator access.
